Why We Love This

Think Rubber Reins, but even better! "What Rubber Reins have always TRIED to do!" ThinLine Reins are web lined and wrapped with the black ThinLine material with top quality European leather ends.
These reins are very soft, and increase the feel between horse and rider. Developed with the help of American World Championship team member Betsy Steiner. "The ThinLine reins are fantastic. These reins are very comfortable to hold, and more importantly, they don’t slip. They actually help the rider develop a soft, effective
contact with the horse." -Betsy Steiner

Also tested cross country by upper level event rider Christan Trainor, these reins do not lose their grip when soaked going through water!

Instructions for Use:

How to Use:

ThinLine recommends basic ThinLine or Ultra ThinLine pads be used between your saddle and regular saddle pad. Most customers use cotton or wool pads underneath. While you can use ThinLine pads directly on the horses back the lifespan of the pad may be shortened and it voids the warranty. All pads with felt or cotton backing are made to be used alone. Some ThinLine or Ultra ThinLine pads may come with a crease where the pad has been folded to be bagged and shipped. These creases will disappear when warmed to body temperature (1-2 rides). All ThinLine products can be cleaned/washed using the ThinLine Cleaner or the ThinLine Wipes.

ThinLine and Ultra ThinLine:

Can be wiped clean (we like baby wipes), hosed off, soaked, bleached, or even machine washed (some machines may catch tm, so front loader is best) in cold water. Mild soaps and detergents can be used, but please do not put them in the dryer! Hang to dry (which really isn’t necessary either as ThinLine doesn’t absorb water.) What to watch out for: keep your ThinLine away from chemicals such as Show Sheen.

Boots: Just sponge or hose off the inside and they are ready to go! Schooling, Sport, and SMB boots and plain bell boots be also be machine washed, cool temperatures please. For leather boots wipe clean and maintain leather as need. Bell boots and Cobra boots will need to hang ot dry if completely washed or soaked. Bell boots with Sheepskin trim should be gently hand washed or follow the direction on reverse for sheepskin care. ThinLine material should be wiped with soap and water only.

The tack is similar to the boots, just wipe or sponge of the lining and use a good leather cleaner/condition to maintain the leather. Wipe Thin Line material only with soap and water.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Love the reins, REALLY disappointed in the quality I was super excited about these after having ridden in a friend's older pair. I love the soft feeling in my hands and feel like I could hack out without gloves in the summer, which will be wonderful.... IF the reins make it that long. They've been ridden in 10 times at this point and the finish is already peeling off the leather buckle end of the reins. For the price that was paid, I would have expected better. I can tell this is a manufacturing issue, not a Smartpak issue, so no point in returning, unless they've gotten a new supplier.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No longer European leather Although the SmartPak ad states these are the European leather reins, the ones I bought are clearly stamped "I" (Indian leather), and the leather quality is noticeably worse than other Thinline reins I've purchased previously. I love how these reins feel in my hand, but don't expect high-quality leather.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Thinline has issues with horse products The softness and ability to temper shock can be changed to hard as a rock when touched with Showsheen, for example. My expensive reins are no longer soft to the touch and easy to hold. I've had them 3 years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great until they start to crack I have two sets of these reins. The ones that I use daily and are stored at the barn have cracked and some parts are starting to come off. My show reins that I store at home are not having this problem. They also get stiff when the temperatures get below 50F. For the price, I will not be buying another pair.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great feel and texture but fall apart I own 5 pairs of these reins, and though I love them so much, they don’t last. They’ve all cracked on the seam part. I used the cleaning/conditioning stuff ThinLine recommended, so that’s not the issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really comfy reins I really love the feel of these reins. They are a good thickness and size, and very soft to hold.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WOW!!! I’m in love... OK, I was skeptical, but I fell in love at first touch. I was concerned about these holding up and did my research. I found that there are two grades of leather available from Thinline. I asked SmartPak whether these are the Indian leather or European version as I really wanted the European leather. I thought it may hold up a bit better and I thought if I’m already soending this much, then I want the best. To my surprise, these are The Italian leather version. SmartPak offers these at a price point nearly $30 less than any other supplier!!!! Essentially you get the European leather for the price of the less expensive Indian leather version. I gave four stars until I see how these wear, but I’m expecting good things. I did order the Thinline cleaner from the manufacturer as I’ve used it before and it’s very effective on almost everything made if either leather or synthetic. I’ll let you know what I think about durability in a few months time, but I suggest you at least try these out. The price is exceptional and I love the ‘cush’ and lightness these offer with any stretch at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Too thick These are nice reins, but I didn't expect they would be so thick. The seam picks up dust and horse dander. I guess reins are just something I need to feel in my hands before I buy. I almost returned them, but decided to give them a try. Just not worth it for the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great at first - don't last I've had two pair, and am now replacing with something else. They are nice at first, but after a year or so the Thinline material cracks badly. Yes, I only cleaned that part with water. They are way too expensive to only last a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these Reins!!! I started riding in these and preparing for the championship class in our local GMO. I can say without a doubt these helped make my horse lighter in my hands. I am considering ordering the XL next as these are a wee bit short for free walk and stretchy trot. They feel great in your hands too. No slipping.
