It works
My horse has a thick mane, this product helps thin it out before my arms die.

What I expected
Not a bad tool. Doesn't work exactly how it is supposed to but having used them before this was no surprise. Wish the comb lock was a bit stronger. I'll always use this for pulling. It's easier on the horse and hands.

Specific Horses Only
I first used this on my horse who has a very thin mane and it worked great. Very easy and efficient. I then tried to use on my horse who has a much thicker mane. It worked for about two small inches and then completely failed to work at all. It won't cut anything now. Very disappointed. I don't think I was overdoing the amount of hair in it for the second horse so not worth the money.

Makes my life so much easier!
I bought this comb after reading other reviews and decided to try it. I have a very sensitive young Thoroughbred who hated having his mane pulled and had a melt down each time I tried! I used this comb for the first time last week and not only was it easy and quick to use but, his mane looks fantastic! I wish I had found this sooner!

Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
LOVE LOVE LOVE this invention. I had an original of these from years ago that vanished at a trainer's and it took me way to long to order another. I could use one all day. The pain of pulling manes is gone for good for both me and my horses!

LOVE THIS THING!!
this is the best main comb ever! like the other reviewer i too like more of the natural true pulled main look, however with my mares main thats next to impossible. Her main is SOOOO THICK that in order to "pull" it, it would take several days and by the end of it my arms hurt and my mare would get quite annoyed with the whole ordeal. Also her main if not done right will go in 7 different directions so i figured id give this a try after another person brought it up. its a true life saver! it gives a really nice look to the main just like if you pulled it and I'm now able to do my mares main in recored time. it also works as a main trimer to shorten the main. you can easily lop off the ends to trim it up between pulls or if you have a thin maned horse that just needs it shortened with out pulling, but it gives that same natural look rather than cutting. I will never be with out it...at least while i own this mare. the blades to last a reasonable time and its not too hard to find replacement blads...smartpak carries them as do quite a few tack stores.

A Staple Item
I finally decided to try this item out on my mare. Even though I am a fan of the look of a true pulled mane, my horse was not a fan of the experience. I decided to try this as an alternative to a fight with her. I was very shocked at how nice you can get the mane to look with this tool. If you use it right you can definitely get a great look.

SoloComb is great!
My daughter and I were at the point of almost pulling our hair out when we pulled her gelding's mane. This boy is super sensitive! So, instead of pulling his mane we cut it aproximately to length with thinning shears and then used the SoloComb by back combing and cutting. It looks great and turned a miserable job into something quick and easy. I have to say this product is pricey, but I think if you have a "sensitive boy" like ours then go for it. It will pay off by saving your nerves and your hair!

Really does work, & it's easy
Having done a lot of braiding, I resisted buying this for years. Then I bought a horse that I'd have to drug every time I want to pull her mane. After suffering thru pulling her mane the hard way 3x(she bordered on dangerous to herself & me), I got one of these. First time I used it she never moved. Never even noticed I was doing anything to her at all. So I'm a convert. Yes, she's a jumper & unlikely to be braided. Not sure I'd use it on a hunter mane or not, but it surely has its place for a difficult horse. Rather expensive, have to see how the blade holds up with repeated use. If you've got a really tough horse, I'd say it's worth the price.

No More Pulling
My TB gelinding hated my pulling his mane. With the Solo Comb I can acheive almost exactly the same effect with no pain for my horse or for me. The first few times I used it he still shook his head as he was expecting me to pull his mane. Once he realized I wasn't going to, he settled right in.
The only thing I find with the comb is that you need to keep it oiled. I use the oil for clippers. Otherwise the blade sticks and you accidentally cut hairs you didn't want to as well as it doesn't work smoothly.

Easy... But not great
With a very sensitive thoroughbred, I was excited about the thought of a product making mane pulling a little less of a task. While the solocomb definitely made "pulling" his mane faster and less of a battle, I was not super impressed with the results. Even with back brushing and doing only very small sections at a time, you get a bit of blunt cut.
So... faster and easier:yes, same natural results:no.

I love it!
I had been resisting buying this for years because I thought it was expensive for what is is, but after using it once I wish I had bought it years ago! It took me 10 minutes to do my horse's fairly long and thick mane and it doesn't look cut if you do it just like you would with a pulling comb. And so much more pleasant for the horse!

Fast easy mane tool
This product is wonderful. It allows you to prep a mane without the pain. Great tool for prepping manes on fussy sensitive horses. If used properly you can not tell if the mane was pulled or this tool was used. Does not leave straight edge cuts in the mane if used properly. Great for a trainer with multiple horses to keep up.

Great Dog Grooming Tool
The SoloComb is the best grooming tool I have when it comes to taking care of my long haired dogs. My rescue girl, Ilene, is neophobic. She has very long, silky hair which tangles easily. She does not tolerate brushing very well and is extremely fearful of any discomfort involved with removing mats or tangles. With the SoloComb, all you do is hold the hair up, comb up to the problem area, click the lever on the top and, presto, the mat or tangle is cut out - no pulling, no noise, no discomfort. It is great and makes things much easier for both Ilene and me. I wish I had found this great little tool 8 years ago. I can tell you I will have it in my grooming kit from now on.

Not worth the money
Bought this for my TB with a fairly average thickness mane. It did maybe one fourth of the mane then quit working. It also just gives a 'cut' like finish. Not worth the money.

A Great Product
I have been looking for one of these ever since I borrowed one from a friend at a previous barn. This one is the same basic idea but the comb is smaller, meaning it will take a while to get through my Arab's thick mane. I am glad my friend taught me how to use the product first, because you run the risk of a very blunt, "banged"-style cut if you don't first tease most of the hair up, only cut a small amount, then brush out and repeat. This is a little bit more than I'd like to pay, but obviously I felt it was worth it to not have to pull. A good product.

So Much better than mane pulling!!!
This item is wonderful on me and my horse! I can groom his mane in 1/5 the time it use to take with the old pulling method. The last show, our trainer even ask who pulled his mane and said it looked great! I'll never pull the old way again!

not a good one
I had a different brand of this type of comb that lasted around a year. This one didn't last 7 horses. The blade quit cutting and the plastic comb started coming off. Also, the comb part was much smaller and you could only do a very small part at a time. I was very disappointed. I will continure my quest to find the other brand.

Way better than pulling
I have found that this works best if you backtease straight and then chop with the hair pulled sideways. The blade lasted through one and a half show seasons which is good.

good product
This is my second solocomb - my first one was "misplaced" (stolen?) out of my tack box this year! I used it, previously, on my draft cross mane, and now I used it on my TB mare's mane. It is easy, the horses don't object to it at all, you can still braid the mane afterwards - and its quick! It is a little expensive for what it is, but I really don't care. I've turned my friends on to the product to!

Great tool!
This is a very easy to use tool and the results are great! We at the barn have nicknamed it the Super Comb! You can achieve a traditionally pulled mane look without the actual pulling. Works great for the horses that fidget around and shake their heads with traditional mane pulling. I love this product so much I have already ordered a backup just in case and replacement blades.

Great for Not-So-Thick Manes
While my horse was infinitely happier about not having her mane pulled, it gave her a bit of a "pony" mane (ie stands up a bit). For horses that are not hair challenged, I'd alternate between this and actual pulling to thin the mane out so it doesn't stand straight up or straight out.
If you have a thin-maned horse, it beats the scissor-method and looks a lot nicer. The product works, just don't put too much mane in the comb because it will jam.

Why has this not been invented earlier??
I discovered this product when I had to pull my ponies mane last summer. I was getting ready to start the long, tiresome, tedious task of pulling his mane when a friend came and told me about her SoloComb. She let me use it and I LOVED it. Never had I been able to pull a mane so quickly and easily.
Suprisingly, it looks good too! Not choppy or cut looking at all. This thing is great!

Not easy and efficient
Not as advertised! Please listen to me! If you like perfect horse manes you would be better off leaving it alone than using this product! It is time consuming. When they say little chunks of hair at a time, they mean strands. I followed the instructions perfectly and it still did not do a good enough job on my horse's mane!!!

Excellent purchase!
I must say I was VERY pleasantly surprised by how well this device works! The results were excellent.... my horses' manes really DID look like I had pulled them by hand with a pulling comb, BUT it took a bit less time and was MUCH kinder to their necks! This is a superb product! Follow the instructions carefully and you will be quite pleased by the results.
