Instructions for Use:
Start with a clean, tangle free mane and tail. It is recommended that you start at the withers and work your way up the mane. Then prepare the mane as you would with a pulling comb. Steps: 1. Back comb into the mane the holding the hair (under tension) with one hand, comb in the other and push top hairs back until the desired amount of under hairs to be removed is in the teeth of the comb. 2. At this point DO NOT PULL THE COMB DOWN; raise the hair held in your hand up into the blades so that the hair is under tension. Then press the lever down on the handle and the hair will be clipped. (For medium/thick manes go closer to the roots). 3. Comb out the tangles for the next cut. When the desired length is reached you may want to pinch or nip off ends of the hairs with your fingers to complete the look. Cleaning the comb: 1. Remove the two fixing screws and lift off the blade cover. 2. Remove the blade fixing. 3. Lift blades off the mounting pins and clean off debris. 4. Separate blades and rinse with water. 5. Dry with cloth and spray sparingly with WB40. To replace the blades: 1. Follow steps 1 & 2 under cleaning instructions. 2. Lift blades off mounting pins. 3. Insert new blades. 4. Replace blade fixing plate. 5. Replace blade cover and screws.

I was skeptical about this product but wanted to give it a try. My Irish sport has a bush for a mane and comb pulling is a daunting task.
This works well and quickly. A clean mane helps prevent the blades from gunking up

Best Purchase ever!
I have used many types of mane cutting , pulling there is on market. This is indeed the BEST! I was a little hesitant as the price, but so well worth every cent. The quality is great...but the best is that it works so easy and my 17.3 hand high strung TB who hates mane pulling does not feel a thing! As well my hands do not hurt from pulling nor do I get cut as I did with other types of combs with razors. This is indeed worth every cent and will never use anything else. This is a product I highly recommend.

More Time in the saddle
By purchasing the solo comb you not only cut down your prep time for showing but you gain time in the saddle-which is more valuable time anyway. It is very easy to use and takes just minutes to have a professional look! You and your horse will be happy by using the solocomb, he doesn't have to stand for hours and go thru the pain of pulling hairs out and you can spend more time riding or relaxing knowing you have just spent your time and money wisely. I would highly recommend this product to any rider at any level.

I have been using these for the past few years. It is so much easier than pulling a mane and my horse is much happier! The plastic does seem to break after a while, but I have normally gotten my $'s worth out of it by that time!

Excellent product!!
I love this product. I am miserable at pulling manes and its takes me forever and I ALWAYS end up cutting myself. I worked on my horses mane while she was grazing out in her 10 acre field. I got half of it done in 20 minutes...and boy does she have a thick mane!!
My only problem with this product is the handle sticks alot...even when I'm not cutting anything. The blades get dull pretty quickly too, so that was disappointing.
The price was so worth it...just wish the replacement blades didnt cost so much :(

I have one horse who HATES having his mane pulled. We've tried everything with him even sissors as a last resort and he went nuts. Then I heard about this product in my local tack shop and I thought it was worth a try, and I didn't expect to let my horse to let me use it on him but he did. I got the whole mane done without even a little fuss from him. This product was a lifesaver

We love it!
My horse has the thickest mane ever and of course he hates having his mane pulled. I have tried everything, I even cut it with scissors ( that looked horrible) I was about ready to completely roach his mane when I decided to try these. I am so happy that I did! His mane looks great and it was painless for both of us! I haven't tried braiding it, but I think it would probably work fine.

Makes Mane Pulling Easy
My TB mare is very sensitive to mane pulling. Trying to pull her mane the traditional way was nearly impossible and only resulted in her getting very stressed and my fingers bruised and bleeding. Then I found the SoloComb. What a lifesaver! Now mane pulling is completely painless and stress-free; for both of us. She is completely relaxed while I do her mane, and it comes out looking great. The SoloComb is very easy to use, and it takes less time than using a regular pulling comb.

A nice surprise!
I bought this based on other reviews, but was still pretty skeptical. I have a draftX who hates having his mane pulled. He actually dropped his head and snoozed while I worked on his mane, rather than trying to tear the crossties out!
For warmblood manes keep a sturdy comb handy rather than using the SoloComb for smoothing out snags. Also, work in small sections, the smaller the better and don't tease the mane back as much as you would if you were pulling the mane.
A little pricey, but I'd buy it again--no worries.

Solo Comb and trailer aid
Thanks SmartPak for getting these two products to me so quickly! With an imminent move, the arrival of these two items gave me one less thing to worry about. I wanted the assurance of the trailer aid for my 1100 mile trip and the solo comb had my horse arriving at his new barn looking great.
Luckily I didn't need to use the Trailer Aid. The Solo Comb gave me quick and handsome results for my horses' thick, growing out mane. Keeping it looking great will be so easy, giving me more time to trail ride in the forests of our new home.
P.S. with no tack shop near me, I wil be counting on SmartPak to keep me stocked with everything equestrian.

Definitely a 10!
I purchased this comb and used it last night. What a great tool! It was so easy, quick, and it does an excellent job. Baby started tossing his head around anticipating his mane being pulled but was pleasantly surprised when he didn’t experience any pain (wish you could have seen the expression on his face).
