Barely fits a flake
Not sure what kind of flakes they're using for their measurements, but I can barely fit one in the two flake sized bag.

The best hay net/slow feeder available
I’ve tried literally every slow feeder out there from the thinner standard hay nets to the expensive slow feeders that you place on the ground. This is the only one I can stand filling because it holds itself open & since it’s more structured than normal hay nets, it doesn’t spin all over the place when they’re eating from it. It’s also very portable unlike the ground slow feeders so you can use it in a trailer. I’ve had mine since 2018 & they’re still doing great. The hook & loop closure is pretty easy to clean out in a few seconds with a shedding blade or dog slicker brush so it still closes nicely.
The only change I’d like is to have a bigger net, I currently have the 4 flake nets. Would be super cool to have one that can fit 6 or even 8 flakes but I don’t mind filling multiple 4 flake nets. I can easily fit 4 flakes if not more in them by stuffing the corners really well & it still closes around all the hay

I love this hay bag. It lasts so much longer than those loose knit hay bags!

Barn workers all love this net.
I bought this because my horse was starting to trash his stall with his expensive hay and poop. This net helps a lot! Sturdy and easy to fill. Thks Smart Pak!

Easy to use!!
This bag is much easier to use than a hay net. Horsey is on daily turnout w/ stall time at night or during the day, depending on the season. He eats alfalfa, which is heavy and messy. This bag is easy to load and the hook& loop closure at the top is great! I was looking for a better alternative to dumping it on the floor (messy!) or using a net (laborious!). I ordered the 2 flake size and it is huge! Will easily hold more than that.

great quality
Although I've only use the hay bag for a short time, it appears to be well made and very sturdy. My horse isn't hard on things and uses it at only his pm feed so I anticipate it should stand up. I will say it can be difficult to fit 4 flakes, but guessing it depends on the size of flakes. Overall very pleased

Great for slowing down quick eaters!
I bought this for my Cobb cross who eats hay like it's an Olympic Speed Sport and it really helps her slow down. The small holes make it much more difficult for her to get large pieces at a time and it really helps slow down her eating time at shows!

Slows her roll
Our pony needs to do a little slimming. Eating more slowly let's her feel more satisfied with less hay.

Excellent quality
Bag was sturdy and very well made. Unfortunately it was too large to use in my trailer so i had to return it. I just measured incorrectly. Wish there was a bit smaller size

Easy to use hay net
These hay nets are easy to fill and hang. The large really does hold 3-4 flakes. Have had them for about a month and my horses have yet to destroy them. The metal “gator” mouth does bend but it is easy reshaped back to it’s original shape.

Love the size and durability of this hay bag
I purchased approximately 3-4 weeks ago....Stan (my horse) needs stall rest for a month/or two....I was worried about him getting bored so someone suggested a hay bag, it would take him longer to consume hay and not get so bored in his stall. This bag is 'PERFECT' for this situation. I am so happy that it is holding up as well (Stan's a chewer). I have recommended this hay bag to my sister-in-law who has 2 horses that gain weight breathing
'air'! LOL

My Horse Loves Her Hay Bag!
Finally!! No more shavings in my horse's hay! I needed a durable hay bag so my mare can eat all day and this is the best one. She absolutely loves it! There will be hay on the ground but she goes straight for her hay bag, I guess it tastes better! I was so over manipulating the regular net hay bags, these hay bags makes it easy. The metal opening keeps the bag from closing on me and its durable nylon openings are sturdy! I can perfectly fit 2 flakes in the smaller-sized hay bag. This is the perfect addition to my mare's stall and keeps her hay up off the ground and tidy!

Very durable
Bought one of these for my gelding. He was notorious for destroying hay nets but so far this one is holding up well. He has abused it all day every day for a year and a half. No rips or tears, no loose stitching, and the rings still look like new. The only con is I bought a light color and it gets dirty quick. This was a great buy!

Perfect hay net for stalls or paddock
I used these nets originally when I was boarding to have an option to throw extra hay to my horse. I have now purchased a farmette and I use these for all the horses in their stalls. I like to use these nets to slow the rate of hay consumption (some use the 2”, others use the 1.5”). While it does allow some hay to fall through onto the ground, I believe it greatly reduces the amount of hay that gets wasted if I were to ground feed. This keeps my spreader, dumpster, and pocket book much happier.
I can fit anywhere between 4-6 flakes, depending on how the bale was cut. I find that I prefer to put in a flake at a time and fluff them up to get them out of the “flake” shape. Then I compress the hay in as I fill it. I make sure to push hay down into the corners as I’m filling so that I can maximize the use of the bag.
It’s very important to note that if you want to Velcro the top, don’t fill it to the absolute top. Also, it might be tempting to fold the ends of the net to help secure the Velcro, but that will lead to the inner wire eventually tearing the seams and you’re left with a dangerous hay net. Instead, fill it approx 90% full (to the point where you could probably stuff a little more in - but don’t do it), and then make sure you hang both center rings on your clip/strap. If you hang it high enough, the horse isn’t too likely to pull open the top. Be careful hanging it too low because like any hay net, it can become a hazard to a horse rolling or pawing: they could put a hoof in it. I did have this happen with a rambunctious horse, and I’m happy to say that the back just tore perfectly at the seam and nobody was hurt (except for the poor bag of course).
They are fairly durable, so if your clip fails, or you have a horse who figures out how to pull it down, it’s not going to get trashed. They can definitely take some abuse.
They do tend to lose shape when they hang empty and it does look kind of ugly. Since I’ve stopped folding over the Velcro ends on all the new ones, the shape plumps up again when I refill the nets.
I also use these in the paddocks in the winter to offer forage when the snow and ice takes over the field. They have all survived life in the elements; the color does fade if they stay out.

Feed all our hay in these bags
Metal in top eventually works out of the fabric - don’t really think it’s necessary - would be better without it.

Worth the price
I bought cheaper hay bags that had bigger holes and they ripped within a few weeks. So I decided to spend the money for nice ones. With the memorial day sale I got them for $40 for the big ones, very easily put 4 flakes in and the 2 inch doesn't slow my boys down too much. I use it in the trailer and in the stall to prevent waste for my ottb. They are built very sturdy and seem durable.

Love the design but do not find it durable.
I bought this bag some time ago and my previous horse managed to dislodge one of the bendable rods. I attempted repair but to no avail. She retired to pasture and the net to my garage. Enter my new horse who has managed to tear and dislodge the remaining bendable rod scratching his face near his eye. I took it out and I am still using it but an enthusiastic horse has been able to tear many of the fabric pieces. I have weaved it with hay twine but I am on the lookout for a different product. If you have a passive horse this product will be fine. My hungry hippos destroyed it.

Nice Quality - Smaller Size is SMALL
This is a nicely-made hay net and I'm happy to find it in 1 1/2 inch hole size. Just know that the 'two flake' size is unlikely to fit two flakes of any reasonable hay variety. One will fit, probably. Am sending back the smaller-sized one and exchanging for the 'four flake' version.

Barn favorite!
The SmartPak Slow Feed Hay Bag is a must for my horses in their dry lot and in my trailer! This hay net is easy to fill and my horses find it impossible to make holes in the material (like they often do with normal nylon nets). I hang several of these nets on the top board of the fence in their dry lot and it reduces the hay waste considerably! My only complaint with this net is that it is not super large.

I have used both bags inside & out, they do minimize hay waste & mess. They don't hold 2 flakes as stated. I have to pull the flakes apart & stuff them into the bags & even then can't fit 2 full flakes. I would recommend the size for only 1 flake at a time.

Too small
The quality of the feed bag Is great. However the opening to get the flakes of hay and is way way way too small. It is a struggle and a half to get one one flake in. If the bag was several inches wider, it would be fantastic.

Durable hay bag
I bought one of these 2 yrs ago for my horse and loved it. It has held up really well. Recently bought a farm and bought slow feed hay bags for every stall from another company with comparable pricing and design, within days they were pulled apart, holes, binding ripped, hanger ripped off. Recently decided to purchase another Smartpak bag and am happy again. I will likely outfit all my stalls with this bag due to the durability and ease of use. The only negative I can come up with is the narrow bottom, its hard to fill the "corners". I stuff in loose hay off of large square bales or round bales and can get them quite full.

Save on Hay
This hay bag is one that stays in place! Doesn’t easily come off the wall like others do. Horses pull the hay out a bit at a time! No opportunity to bathroom on it! Very very little hay gets wasted on the stall floor! As we all know, hay prices are skyrocketing daily so this is like putting money in your pocket!

Good Quality
Great Quality hay net. Using the hay nets has substantially decreased the amount of hay waste in my stalls and made them easier to clean.
My only complaint is that they are hard to fill because the bottom is NOT flat.
I ordered the 4 flake, 2" holes.

Well designed for daily use
I have a really fat mare. She loves hay. She LOVES hay. I was literally running out of ideas to get weight off of her without making her miserable. Nibble nets were a joke to her and I ended up with a pile of expensive nets with huge holes in them. This net is sturdy, easy to fill and hang and sometimes she even has hay left over in the morning. It's a miracle! Absolutely worth the money.
