Excellent quality
Bag was sturdy and very well made. Unfortunately it was too large to use in my trailer so i had to return it. I just measured incorrectly. Wish there was a bit smaller size

Easy to use hay net
These hay nets are easy to fill and hang. The large really does hold 3-4 flakes. Have had them for about a month and my horses have yet to destroy them. The metal “gator” mouth does bend but it is easy reshaped back to it’s original shape.

Love the size and durability of this hay bag
I purchased approximately 3-4 weeks ago....Stan (my horse) needs stall rest for a month/or two....I was worried about him getting bored so someone suggested a hay bag, it would take him longer to consume hay and not get so bored in his stall. This bag is 'PERFECT' for this situation. I am so happy that it is holding up as well (Stan's a chewer). I have recommended this hay bag to my sister-in-law who has 2 horses that gain weight breathing
'air'! LOL

My Horse Loves Her Hay Bag!
Finally!! No more shavings in my horse's hay! I needed a durable hay bag so my mare can eat all day and this is the best one. She absolutely loves it! There will be hay on the ground but she goes straight for her hay bag, I guess it tastes better! I was so over manipulating the regular net hay bags, these hay bags makes it easy. The metal opening keeps the bag from closing on me and its durable nylon openings are sturdy! I can perfectly fit 2 flakes in the smaller-sized hay bag. This is the perfect addition to my mare's stall and keeps her hay up off the ground and tidy!

Very durable
Bought one of these for my gelding. He was notorious for destroying hay nets but so far this one is holding up well. He has abused it all day every day for a year and a half. No rips or tears, no loose stitching, and the rings still look like new. The only con is I bought a light color and it gets dirty quick. This was a great buy!

Perfect hay net for stalls or paddock
I used these nets originally when I was boarding to have an option to throw extra hay to my horse. I have now purchased a farmette and I use these for all the horses in their stalls. I like to use these nets to slow the rate of hay consumption (some use the 2”, others use the 1.5”). While it does allow some hay to fall through onto the ground, I believe it greatly reduces the amount of hay that gets wasted if I were to ground feed. This keeps my spreader, dumpster, and pocket book much happier.
I can fit anywhere between 4-6 flakes, depending on how the bale was cut. I find that I prefer to put in a flake at a time and fluff them up to get them out of the “flake” shape. Then I compress the hay in as I fill it. I make sure to push hay down into the corners as I’m filling so that I can maximize the use of the bag.
It’s very important to note that if you want to Velcro the top, don’t fill it to the absolute top. Also, it might be tempting to fold the ends of the net to help secure the Velcro, but that will lead to the inner wire eventually tearing the seams and you’re left with a dangerous hay net. Instead, fill it approx 90% full (to the point where you could probably stuff a little more in - but don’t do it), and then make sure you hang both center rings on your clip/strap. If you hang it high enough, the horse isn’t too likely to pull open the top. Be careful hanging it too low because like any hay net, it can become a hazard to a horse rolling or pawing: they could put a hoof in it. I did have this happen with a rambunctious horse, and I’m happy to say that the back just tore perfectly at the seam and nobody was hurt (except for the poor bag of course).
They are fairly durable, so if your clip fails, or you have a horse who figures out how to pull it down, it’s not going to get trashed. They can definitely take some abuse.
They do tend to lose shape when they hang empty and it does look kind of ugly. Since I’ve stopped folding over the Velcro ends on all the new ones, the shape plumps up again when I refill the nets.
I also use these in the paddocks in the winter to offer forage when the snow and ice takes over the field. They have all survived life in the elements; the color does fade if they stay out.

Feed all our hay in these bags
Metal in top eventually works out of the fabric - don’t really think it’s necessary - would be better without it.

Worth the price
I bought cheaper hay bags that had bigger holes and they ripped within a few weeks. So I decided to spend the money for nice ones. With the memorial day sale I got them for $40 for the big ones, very easily put 4 flakes in and the 2 inch doesn't slow my boys down too much. I use it in the trailer and in the stall to prevent waste for my ottb. They are built very sturdy and seem durable.

Love the design but do not find it durable.
I bought this bag some time ago and my previous horse managed to dislodge one of the bendable rods. I attempted repair but to no avail. She retired to pasture and the net to my garage. Enter my new horse who has managed to tear and dislodge the remaining bendable rod scratching his face near his eye. I took it out and I am still using it but an enthusiastic horse has been able to tear many of the fabric pieces. I have weaved it with hay twine but I am on the lookout for a different product. If you have a passive horse this product will be fine. My hungry hippos destroyed it.

Nice Quality - Smaller Size is SMALL
This is a nicely-made hay net and I'm happy to find it in 1 1/2 inch hole size. Just know that the 'two flake' size is unlikely to fit two flakes of any reasonable hay variety. One will fit, probably. Am sending back the smaller-sized one and exchanging for the 'four flake' version.

Barn favorite!
The SmartPak Slow Feed Hay Bag is a must for my horses in their dry lot and in my trailer! This hay net is easy to fill and my horses find it impossible to make holes in the material (like they often do with normal nylon nets). I hang several of these nets on the top board of the fence in their dry lot and it reduces the hay waste considerably! My only complaint with this net is that it is not super large.

I have used both bags inside & out, they do minimize hay waste & mess. They don't hold 2 flakes as stated. I have to pull the flakes apart & stuff them into the bags & even then can't fit 2 full flakes. I would recommend the size for only 1 flake at a time.

Too small
The quality of the feed bag Is great. However the opening to get the flakes of hay and is way way way too small. It is a struggle and a half to get one one flake in. If the bag was several inches wider, it would be fantastic.

Durable hay bag
I bought one of these 2 yrs ago for my horse and loved it. It has held up really well. Recently bought a farm and bought slow feed hay bags for every stall from another company with comparable pricing and design, within days they were pulled apart, holes, binding ripped, hanger ripped off. Recently decided to purchase another Smartpak bag and am happy again. I will likely outfit all my stalls with this bag due to the durability and ease of use. The only negative I can come up with is the narrow bottom, its hard to fill the "corners". I stuff in loose hay off of large square bales or round bales and can get them quite full.

Save on Hay
This hay bag is one that stays in place! Doesn’t easily come off the wall like others do. Horses pull the hay out a bit at a time! No opportunity to bathroom on it! Very very little hay gets wasted on the stall floor! As we all know, hay prices are skyrocketing daily so this is like putting money in your pocket!

Great hay bag!
Much more heavy duty than other hay bags and easy to fill. Really slows my guy’s eating down AND he hasn’t chewed a hole in it.

Good Quality
Great Quality hay net. Using the hay nets has substantially decreased the amount of hay waste in my stalls and made them easier to clean.
My only complaint is that they are hard to fill because the bottom is NOT flat.
I ordered the 4 flake, 2" holes.

Well designed for daily use
I have a really fat mare. She loves hay. She LOVES hay. I was literally running out of ideas to get weight off of her without making her miserable. Nibble nets were a joke to her and I ended up with a pile of expensive nets with huge holes in them. This net is sturdy, easy to fill and hang and sometimes she even has hay left over in the morning. It's a miracle! Absolutely worth the money.

Design flaws
I've been using this less than a week and I have not been happy with it so far. It is not true that the large holds for laps of hay.. It barely holds 2 1/2 and it is a struggle to get it filled. Whoever came up with the idea of using Velcro to hold a bag together that is stuffed with something loose like hay needs to rethink the whole concept and obviously have never had horses. The velcro is useless already. Also, the gator mouth is flimsy. It is so bent out of shape already and does not lay correctly anymore. The bottom of the bag is flat so you can only fit 1 lap down there. It needs to be squared so that it is wider at the bottom. The whole design of this is so disappointing. Please get someone who knows about horses to redesign this to actually work for horse people.

Hard to fill
Bought the two flake bag. I find unless you break apart your flakes into small pieces to stuff inside, it’s pretty hard to fill and fit 2 flakes in it. Also, the Velcro doesn’t work for long once it gets a little hay on it or horse hair. It would be a better design if it were more square. Otherwise I love it.

Excellent concept
Overall a great net, that being said - I would 100% love to see hanging rings on the top ends of the bag, and not just the middle, as well as a clip or loop on the bottom to attach so they can't flip the bag up. The velcro is good, but could be larger. The bag is flat, I feel it would hold hay better with a more square structure/sides. A nice size and well made, but could for sure be improved.

Great bag
Have had two for four years and bought another for a new horse because of the durability. Only issue is the Velcro to close the top stops working very quickly. Maybe design another way to help keep the bag closed .

Durable and Easy to Fill
Say goodbye to painful hay nets. The SmartPak Slow Feed Hay Bag is in the house! The gator mouth is easy to open and filling this hay bag is a breeze. Even though the 2 flake hay net cannot fit a huge amount of hay, it is ample for trailer travel or providing a snack/entertainment for your horse. So happy to have found something that is durable and easy to use.

Slows feeding
Durability is better than previous hay nets. Heavy item. The top opening with inlaid flexible rods is a good idea but easily and continuously bent by horses. Consideration for a single unbendable rod across the top and rings at each end of the top with strap would minimize turning.

THE BEST hay bag I had ever used!
I have a small barn of 11. Initially I was hesitant to order another failure of the hay bag/net etc. I had seen them few weeks prior at another barn and the barn manager was raving about them. They have had them for over a year and had no problems. So I ordered 6 to try. Now I am up to 8 and the rest are in shipping. 1. They are VERY easy to fill 2. They are very durable. I have younger horses that like to chew on something, need to be occupied. I had noticed that my stalls are not as messy as they have been and possible due to horses being busy grazing slowly. I had ordered a Tough 1 canvas bags prior which lasted literally just one night. I returned them to the co I got them from (Not Smartpak) Two are on stall rest and those bags have been a saving grace for those guys. 3.Grazing also helps their stomachs, 4. I got 4 flakes and it last through the long winter night. 5. Now I dont have hay mixed up with shavings and it seriously cut down on stall cleaning time as well as hay waste. 6. Unlike the myth I had heard before about hay nets that horse has to constantly yank their heads creating problems with their muscles and spines,- these bags are easy to pull hay out of in small amounts . All around is a HUGE WIN-WIN in my opinion! Thank you, Smartpak for top a quality product! PS I bought 4 flakes 2 in opening but for pony and younger babies/foals I am ordering 1.5 in 2 flakes.

Excellent Feeding Solution!
I've been a big fan of the smaller size of these hay bags for several years. Now that I have a 1300 pound QH gelding, I needed a larger bag to feed him. Using a bag slows down food intake, which I believe is better for my horse's digestion. It also helps you better manage your hay. These bags are tough and very well priced.
