HEAVY mask
I bought three of these masks in anticipation of fly /gnat season this year. Our horses are out on pasture and wear their fly masks 24/7. Ive used many different brands over the years, some good, some bad. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with SmartPak 's mask. It is an extremely heavy mask. The full nose version is heavier than my bridle. There's a big, 2" wide roll of fleece across the forehead which was not only hot (everyone had sweaty brows) but rubbed forelocks into matted messes. My horses have never been bad about shedding their masks, but I have to go hunting these every day. I'm not sure if it's because of fit (although they all seem to fit well) or comfort, but I have a feeling the horses get irritated by the weight of these masks and get hot behind them in our oppressive humidity and heat. I will have to say, they look indestructible though and are well made. Just HEAVY WEIGHT!

great velcro and good fit
This mask has been great! It fits my warmblood nicely and the Velcro is very large so it's easy to secure and remove. She has not been able to rub this mask off like she has with other mask. It has been durable and has enough space for her eyes. It has not rubbed or caused her any hair loss.

Facemask has been easy for my horse to remove while in turnout. Have to search for it daily. Not sure how long she actually is wheeling it. The flip side to this is that she could get tangled up.

Don’t buy it
I’m a big fan of SP products, but this one is a bust. I bought 3 (for the season). The ear stitching failed to attach the ears to the mask. The wonderful heavy Velcro wasn’t stitched on 1 side, so it just pulled off after two weeks of use (night turnout). I attempted to return them, it was a hassle. First they wanted detailed photos, finally agreed to exchange them, never received the mailing label. And honestly, why would I want 3 more? The quality was so substandard I can’t imagine buying another. To be clear, these disintegrated in two weeks, not a lot of use for sure.

I bought this a month ago and it’s holding up nicely. It fits my horse really well. However, the velcro is almost *too* strong. The tab that helps pull the Velcro off actually broke. But it’s kind of an unnecessary piece of the mask anyways

Disappointed :(
At first this seemed like a great product, liked the material and fit my horse well. Unfortunately there is one single feature that completely ruined this product for me, and that is the cloth lining that goes right above (or in my horses case, across) the eyes. (Not talking about the usual lining that runs across the forehead, this is an additional feature that forks out from the top of the mask). This obstructed his eyesight, and when I put it on him he started spinning in circles, obviously very distressed by this. Luckily I was able to get it off of him, but will never be putting it back on. Would have loved this fly mask if not for that :(

Stiching comes undone quickly at temples, ears too
Ive bought a few of these now, and liked that they resembled the Cashel masks, at a lower price. Smartpak has some work to do on these masks to rival the same quality however. Regardless of age/type of horse, the stitching at the temple seams quickly comes undone . All but one of the masks’ ear covers have ripped off as well. It seems to be a manufacturing issue.
I do like the big velcro, it is very sticky!

Love the large Velcro closure but....
I had to super glue a piece of fleece to the burr side part of the Velcro that is under the chin. It was extremely itchy but now it’s fine.
The ears are way too long and pointy. They were pulling on my horse’s ears so I turned them inside out and tied a knot. Now the ears fit fine.
The mask has rubbed off my horse’s forelock. It needs a hole for the forelock.
I like this mask now with the modifications I have made. I would recommend it if whoever buys it fits the ears and adds the fleece to the underpart of the Velcro and perhaps cut a hole for the forelock.

I suggested to some of our boarders to purchase this fly mask based on the reviews and personalization offered. One of the masks started to fall apart after one month and one washing. SmartPak replaced it at no charge but now a few more are also coming apart where the stitching is coming undone. The Cashel masks that we’ve used over the years wash very well and I don’t recall any of the stitching breaking down like this. I’m really disappointed in this product! What I do like is the wide Velcro closure that it very strong but that’s about the only thing I like.

Great Fly Mask - Needs Forelock Hole
Purchased this fly mask after my Cashel fly mask was ripped by my gelding's pasture mate. I love that it matches his SmartPak fly boots and has held up to rough play so far. I purchased the cob size for my 14.3hh TWH and it fits beautifully. I wish it had a forelock hole, I'm always worried that his hair is in his face and he can't shake it out.

Got this fly mask and with light use my horse hardly has a forelock left. Don’t recomend. The hair is now about two inches long and hideous. Going to take months to grow back

This was free w the fly sheet and I wouldn’t have purchased it. It shows that it goes down on the nose but in reality it’s pretty short. More like a standard size. If you only need that then it’ll be great!

Fabric used to make the ears
I want to give this 5 starts but after the first day of using it I noticed that the fabric used to mke the ears was already falling apart. Then not even 2 months into using it the ear piece was completely ripped off. My other mare is extremely rough but her cashel fly mask has lasted several years with minimal damage

Bad design
I bought 2 of these a couple weeks ago and I can't keep them on my horses. I turn around and their off. There is only one big velcro piece and the tab faces upward on the jaw they either get them off each other or itch them off. They seem like they would be good quality and work well but they wont stay on.

Bring the old design back - please!!
I've had a few SmartPak fly masks in the past - and I loved them! I just ordered a new one and the design of the Velcro closure changed, so there's now only one layer of Velcro to attach, not 2 layers as before. Design fail! It lasted all of 30 seconds on my horse after one roll. Please bring back the old design!

It’s not very durable.
I have a 17 hands warmblood, who wears a oversized halter, so I bought a OS flymask. I thought it fit, but if I don’t make it snug when I put it on he gets it off during the night. After wearing it a week, I noticed the soft mesh has worn thin on the seam on his forehead. I don’t think it will last a month at this rate. It looks really nice with is name on it.
