Didn’t last long
I purchased this halter because it had the padded nose and strap bands. Received it in the middle of August by the beginning of October the keeper for the chin strap was already broken and it is now held together my electrical tape.
The last leather halter I purchased took my horse almost 3 years of everyday wear to ruin.

Expected better quality for the price
The halter looks very nice. However, it broke twice already (on each side of the poll strap) on two different occasions when my horse lifted her head after being spooked. This is when I noted that the leather is very dry inside (paper like). The look is nice but the Carmel color is not as light as advertised. The worst of all is the name plate, which started to rust within a month and a half despite being inside of the barn. I even do not leave it out when she goes out. In overall it is a nice halter but not for that price.

Great features at a great price!!
This is an amazing halter period, but also a great buy for the price! I opened the box and was impressed that it was comparable to the $100+ halters! This would be a great halter for everyday use at the barn or if your looking for an inexpensive show halter that you need to buy for everyone in the barn at a great price. It’s not as “heavy” (the weight you feel with very high quality halters, the “wow this is a nice halter weight” lol) as other more expensive options, but still very comparable!! The brass and clip on this one is great, sturdy quality (actually very impressed by it)!! The padding on the crown and nose piece is perfect as well, not too thick and does the job! Overall great halter for an amazing price, you should definitely get it if you’re on the fence! Pictured - brown with fancy white sticking in size full

Poor quality leather
I've bought three of these halters and two of them have broken. The most recent one my horse was tied on the trailer - literally going nowhere. The buckle got caught on the haynet. He lifted his head - minimal pull upwards -- and the leather snapped.
I took it to a leatherworker to see about fixing it and he said the leather was poor quality. He was not at all surprised it broke. As the picture shows, the leather snapped. Good leather will give and stretch some

Leather is great-
I bought this halter almost a month ago and the leather has done great, soft and broke in easy but still looks new - I got a brass plate on it, after about over 2 weeks later around the letters started to rust, the second line which is smaller looks more faded.

Been my every day halter for 3 years now
This has been my horse's every day halter for 3 years now so definitely hold up and still looks good.
He did break the crown once and I purchased a replacement form smartpak and unfortunately it wasn't exactly like the original one and not as nice quality as the original crown piece.
I had it engraved as it was free engraving and the engraving is aright after this time... I will probably replace with a plate that is engraved deeper in the future.

Great value
I bought this for my mare who always had the hand me downs from my other horses... it's very elegant looking for an every day halter and I am pleased with the fit and quality. My only negative comment was that I wish the rolled throat latch was a bit thinner.

Great for the Price
I bought this halter after realizing I didn't have a nicer one to use in an upcoming photoshoot. I had bought other leather halters from SmartPak in the past and been happy with them, however I didn't like that most of them if I wanted black leather was going to get nickel hardware so I loved that this halter features brass hardware with the black leather. Compared to other SmartPak leather goods, I'd say this was a little more on the stiff side out of the box but is slowly taking shape. I can't speak for the durability yet as this is mainly a show/fancy halter for us not a day-to-day, but I'm happy with it for what I paid.

I would say this is a decent overall
Leather halter. It is pretty flexible, and feels like it will hold up well with general use. It runs true to size, and again has a good overall feel.

Looks awful within months
I bought this halter for my horse to wear at shows ONLY, and it lasted less than 4 shows. The dark brown leather has spots where it faded off (where the leather touches other parts) and it already looks awful. Super dissapointed with the quality.

Looks aren’t everything
This is a very pretty halter but unfortunately the quality or durability aren’t on the same level. I purchased this halter less than a 2 weeks ago and the chin strap has broken off already. Super disappointing that I spent the money on this plus adding a name plate to have an unusable halter in less than a month.

You get what you pay for - which is a cheap halter
Out of the box, I was skeptical because the halter looked cheap. It also looked huge, even though two sales people assured me that the full size would be good for my horse. Eyeballing it, I can tell it’s going to be way too big. On top of that, the halter I received had cuts and scrapes all over the leather. The nose band in particular had deep cups into the leather, but there was damage all around the halter. They also forgot to include something I ordered in the shipment, so now I have to go to Dover to pick it up because it was ordered specifically for a show this weekend, in four days.
I don’t often use SmartPak, and after this experience, I definitely will not order from their website again.

I bought this halter last minute for a photo shoot. I was very happy with the fit and quality right out of the box. My boy didn't get a rub or act like it bothered him at all even though there wasn't time to break it in. Plus it looked great!

Poor Quality
I took the halter out of the box today and noticed the leather has white residue left on it, and the brass fittings are stained, tarnished, and just plain dirty. I can scrape gunk off of them with my fingernails.

I bought this halter to go with the Plymouth leather lead to use for showmanship. right out of the box the leather was soft and supple and felt amazing. I wasn't expecting much since its so cheap but I was pleasantly surprised. the only issue I have had was that when I took this out of the box there was a small amount of glue or something on the noseband over the fancy stitching, I put some water on it and it peeled right off. the brass pieces also weren't as high quality as I was expecting. there are some spots that have dye from the leather or something that I can't get off. overall I would recommend this to anyone who wants a cheap and high quality halter for any use. I also should mention that I ordered this in a size cob for my large pony and I found that it ran a bit large. it is on all the top holes and fits but if you are in-between sizes I would recommend sizing down.

Really glad I bought this halter
I've had this halter for about a year now and it is still in great shape. I clean and oil it regularly and I expect it to last a long time. I love that the brass fittings are solid brass, not plated metal that rusts like cheaper halters.

Lovely Halter
Love this halter for my new TB. It looks and feels like it is much more expensive than it is. Teddy looks fabulous and the engraved nameplate just adds to it! It appears to be very well made. With all the adjustments allowed, it was easy to get a perfect fit for my growing boy.

Wanted to love it
I bought this halter as a cheap alternative for a young horse that I still wanted a nice look for. Right out of the box it looked like a great option for the price although you can tell it’s not the best leather. One day in and I noticed that the throat latch had moved from its original place and bright red marks were underneath. I tried oiling it to a darker shade to match with no success. Fast forward two weeks and the halter that lives in an air conditioned tack room looks cheap. ANY mark made on the leather takes off the nice chocolate brown and uncovers an unnatural red/orange that can’t be fixed.

Very nice halter!
I was very impressed by the leather quality especially at this price point! It comes out of the box buttery soft and all the details are very nice. The size chart provided is accurate and helpful...for those wondering, I have a QH mare who’s always in between cob and horse size and I’m glad I ordered the cob, so if I had to choose I’d say it runs a touch on the large size but nothing crazy. Definitely a lovely halter!

High-quality, strong and supple
I really like this halter. The brass fittings seem to be genuine solid brass, and the leather is strong and high-quality. This sounds funny, but I love the way it smells! The padded crown and noseband are very nice. My horse is hard to size so I bought an oversize at first, but it was too big and the full just fits. SmartPak was terrific at letting me send back the old one and replacing it very quickly.

Love this halter!!
I bought this halter for shows and just because I wanted a nice halter. I am beyond impressed with the quality for the price. I got a nameplate as well and it turned out amazing!! The halter fits great, very adjustable ( I got a cob size for Reisling, a 15.2hh Anglo-Arab). I love the stitching and the padding, overall I recommend 100%!!

Stunning color!
I was worried that the purple of the halter would either be too light or way too bright for a show, but it is truly a beautiful shade. I had the halter come with a nameplate that was engraved perfectly.
