Overview

Why We Love This

The Myler Level 2 Dee follows the Myler Bitting System to effectively communicate with any horse at any level of training.  The Myler Bitting System is a graduated system, meaning that as your horse learns and progresses through his training, you will change the way you communicate with him by re-bitting him periodically. Each Myler Bit is designed to use select pressure points for the best communication for that Level.

Myler Level 2 Dee is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice bit, my mare likes it I have OTTB mare and had issues to find the right bit. I ordered 5 1/2 in Myler, which they run large, I have to return it (Thank you SmartPak - wonderful customer service) and ordered a smaller one. My mare normally wears 5.5" and it fits her 5" Myler bit. I am satisfied that I finally found a bit that my horse likes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bit I have had my well trained dressage mare in the level 1 comfort snaffle for a few years and was noticing she was overreacting to any contact by going behind the vertical or raising her head. She has been in this bit for 2 weeks now and it is going much better. I do not have to ride her finger tip light anymore. I can take a normal light contact. She has a low pallet so this bit has been a godsend for us. Traditional snaffles were painful and causing stress and the two jointed snaffles were also not great. I am such a believer in this bit for horses with low pallets or big tongues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Miracle Bit I bought this bit about a week ago for a young Arab mare. I've owned her for almost three years, and she's been tricky to work with. She would evade bit contact, she wouldn't turn, and she definitely wouldn't stop. I was able to rule it down to a bit issue (she went nearly perfectly in just a halter and reins, and she also has a very low palate), and thanks to the help of her old trainer, I was able to find this bit. We've only been on three rides with it, but she has accepted it really well. I'd recommend it for horses with sensitive mouths or those who dislike a lot of pressure centered on the tongue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tense and nervous to calm and relaxed My TWH is naturally very forward and on the hot side under saddle, and was nearly unrideable when I first got him. I didn't want to use the severe "walking horse bit" that the previous owner insisted I would need and initially put him in a simple grazing bit with a low port since he was used to a leverage bit. Unfortunately, he had been so badly abused with the high port and long shanks of the walker bit that he became tense as soon as I fastened the curb strap and would run right through the bit, ignoring my seat cues as well because he expected pain and wanted to get every ride over with as quickly as possible. The difference this bit (mine is the eggbutt version so I don't have the same issues others have experienced with the Dee, but I have a level 1 w/d-ring for my green mare and I've had no issues even though she has a fairly dainty muzzle) made for my poor boy was obvious and immediate. You could actually see the fear and tension melt away, and suddenly he remembered that he had brakes and first gear. He's been quite happy with it ever since and we both enjoy pleasant rides now. He waits until he's cued to gait or canter, which was all he would do in the leverage bit. He'll stretch his neck out and relax, and we ride mostly on the buckle these days, as he's learned to neck rein and pay attention to leg, seat and vocal cues now that he isn't worried about experiencing pain in his mouth and at the poll and under his chin. I know that training is more important than choice of bit, but I don't think he ever would have calmed down enough for me to be able to train him without what I have started calling a "wonder bit". I have a cooperative partner now and we've just started pole bending since he's so quick and, finally, responsive. He's doing great so far and really enjoys the workout. Most importantly my horse is happy, which was all I ever wanted.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice mouthpiece....problems with the huge D I bought this bit for a young horse who is heavy on the forehand. He is much more responsive in this bit. However, the D rings are huge and the horse has developed rubs between his mouth and the noseband, worse up close to the noseband. We don't have this problem with loose ring snaffles, 3 ring gag bits or anything else that provides a little lift. I've tried moving the position of the noseband, and it hasn't helped. He is rubbed raw on the side where he is a little heavier in the contact. I am disappointed because I really like his response in the mouth, but I can't keep making his face raw.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice bit Worked beautifully for my horse at first. He had gotten very prone to leaning heavily on his French link which is why I moved to the Myler but a couple weeks in and he's doing the same thing with this bit. I know that is more of an issue with my horse than the bit but disappointing all the same to be back where you started. Me and my trainer are going to make some adjustments with my hands before the final verdict is passed down. Overall bit is well made. I know several horses who go beautifully in this bit. The Ds are HUGE. Even through the bit fits very well the Ds look out of place on my horse's small muzzle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more llama head :) I bought this bit about two weeks ago after trying out my friend's Myler Level 2 Dee Ring on my own horse. He's an 11-year-old Appendix Quarter Horse gelding who jumped with previous owners and had developed what my trainer and I like to call a "llama head." Meaning that when I would ask him to collect and move out, his head would often rise above his withers and he'd resist the pressure on the bit. After switching to this bit though, my horse's head has come down significantly and while he still occasionally resists collecting up, he no longer imitates a llama when asked to use his hind end!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Bit From the first day I used the Myler bit on my Mare she was so much happier. She stopped hanging her head, fighting the bit and went forward agreeably. She is also less strong when jumping and jeeps a nice even pace. Just luv this not!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Connected and light We bought this wanting to try and thrilled at how he likes it.  He reaches to the bit and is light in it--very nice as he can be an insidious puller( you don't even realize how much pressure has come on until your arms hurt).  The price is prohibitive to trying/alternating multiple bits unless you have deep pockets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wonderful This bit replaced a very expensive snaffle one which is supposed to be the 'purest' styling on the market. Maybe that is so but I wasn't getting anywhere with it. I tried the Myler Level 2 Dee out of desperation after watching the video. Oh my! Two out of two horses could have been the ones in the before and after shots. I don't know if I want to cry for joy or cry for how long it took me to try this bit. My trainer can't get over how much we have progressed since changing to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great bit for pullers/ heavy on the forehand horse After trying every type of snaffle (D ring and full cheek corkscrews, slow twists, twisted wire, etc.) and a waterford on my OTTB, who is a saint on the flat but gets heavy on the forehand jumping, I knew i needed to try something different. After riding on the flat for a few days first working on transitions, getting her used to this new bit, I was very happy to find her more responsive over fences without the usual tug-of-war to control her that we had been encountering over the past few months. It's the perfect bit for this horse. Took her to a show this past weekend and used it, and it was just what we needed for the over-fences classes. It was almost too much for the flat classes, however (lifting her head on downward transitions, though that might be just her nerves - she's very green still, and it was her first show in this very scary arena.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this bit! I bought this bit for my new dressage horse since it is now legal to use in dressage shows. My Danish Warmblood gelding was very heavy in the bridle, sticking his tongue out a lot, and dragging me around the ring. After getting this bit, he is more respectful of my restraining aids and I feel like I have control of him. He sticks his tongue out much less in this bit and is happy overall. This bit has made my riding much more enjoyable. I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love myler bits! I have been using the level 1 2-ring combo bit and moved into the level 2. Tried it on my 17yr old TB last night and was very impressed. Complete different response from a jointed snaffle. He was soft in my hands, not bracey, eager to work and bend, was soft in the poll and in his body. I have decided to sell all my other bits and exclusively use Myler for my horses. I have a few other Mylers and although pricey - I have never been disappointed and more importantly - my horses just plain respond better and are calmer. And now that USDF has approved their use - why not!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great bit Love this bit, helps especially for my horse who likes to drop his shoulder on turns. He really listens in it and is soft and responsive. Love this bit- hesistant to buy because of the price, but well worth the money, so glad I bought it.
Date published: 2012-10-10
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Did not work with my horse I found with both my horses that the cheaper Kimberwick bits with wither a snaffle mouth or a tiny port work better.
Date published: 2012-08-18
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good bit with wrong rings I tried this bit on my WB, and the bit itself was good, but the huge D-rings rubbed my horse's face in two days. I ended up talking with Myler web person and they are now making smaller D-rings to accommodate this particular problem on some horses (the bit is coming this fall). So I ended up ordering the same bit with eggbutt rings and this is working well. Of course, the SmartPak stood behind this product and gave me a full refund without any trouble. I was really horrified when my horse ended up scraping the sides of his face, but the customer rep of SmartPak was nothing short of fantastic.
Date published: 2012-07-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Dressage Bit I upgraded to this bit from the Myler Level One. I wanted to try this bit because of the tongue relief. I also ordered it in 5 1/2". It took my horse about a week to adapt and it works well. My only gripe is that the Myler bits are pricey.
Date published: 2012-05-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bit of knowledge There are many different bits to choose from when transitioning a horse to different levels. Myler has the best selection I have seen and the best information to make the correct selection. A bit of knowledge goes a long way.
Date published: 2012-01-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mylar bit makes a huge difference My aqua gelding has become more responsive in this bit. He resisted the other bits I have tried. With this one he seems to be quieter, more round, uses his hind quarters more, and overall enjoys his job more. I was a little reluctant to pay so much for a bit but now that I have seen the difference in him I am so glad that I made this purchase .thank you,Smart Pak , for offering it at a better price than anyone else.
Date published: 2011-09-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit I have been using this bit on my OTTB for over a year and he really seems happy in this bit! He seems to like the tongue relief that this bit offers. There is rarely any leaning and he softens quite nicely in it. I have been very happy with every Myler bit I have used. If you have a sensitive mouth and the regular snaffles don't seem to give you a desired response the Mylers may be a great bit to try. As a bonus, many places offer a rental program on these bits so you can try them to see if they are for you before you buy :)
Date published: 2011-09-09
Rated 3 out of 5 by from myler bit I found my mare to be stiff and resistant with this bit. It fit well and ran true to size. However she braced against it when used.
