GREAT hock shield
A little tricky putting it on for the first few times, but once you've figured it out, it goes quite quick to put them on. Really saves their hocks, my horse lays down at night and had some nasty soars (even with a pile of shavings). They have since healed (less than 2 weeks) but I continue to put on, don't want him getting soars again. Easily washed up.

Great boots!
Great boots, let my mare's hock sores heal finally! At first they may slip down until you get the correct tightness with the Velcro. Really good protection and seem comfortable, glad I purchased.

These are great
This is my 2nd pair. They work great and provide good protection. They wash well and hold up. Only thing to keep in mind is that the straps do stretch out so the may only last 4-6 months with regular use. Still, they have been a huge help to my older warmblood who likes to lay down quite a bit.

Fit is tricky
Took me several days to figure out how tight to make these so they didn’t slip. They do the job if you can keep them on but apparently my horse is super talented. They are super fleecy and cushy which is great, but this means that he sweats quite a lot under them which is not ideal in the summer.

Hock sore, no more!
My senior Percheron developed a hock sore about the size of a walnut that wouldn’t heal, as the scab would come off from her getting up. I was wrapping the hock nightly with cotton and vet wrap, but it would frequently be off by morning. The hock shield is the solution!! The sheepskin lining allowed for some slip so the scab wasn’t worn off, but the Velcro configuration keeps it in place. There is only a callus there now, but I continue use. I’m amazed and relieved that this product works so well!

It helps
I bought this so I could protect my buddies hock, only one does he tear open. The ones I had were very big and bulky and always fell down and didn’t do a good job, when I saw these I knew they would work and they do but you have to get them just tight enough so they don’t fall down but not too tight to hinder movement or circulation. Overall does what I need it to do well worth the money.

They are good and bad, but they do work.
I have a 17+ hand TB/WB and I ordered the XL, and I am glad I trusted my gut and didn’t order the Large.
When they stay on, they work beautifully, protecting all parts of the hock. However, it took me a few days to figure out how to put them on so that they stayed up and on after a roll. There is an elastic tab that is supposed to attach on the inside. Pull that back as far as you can and just attach the Velcro further forward. Then there is a strap that goes across the front of the hock, again, pull it past where it should go and fold it if necessary. The fold the final Velcro over.
My horse was getting NASTY hock sores from rolling in the sand, and once I figured out how to put them on, they worked like magic! I hope that this helps the next person.

Really did the trick
I have been treating hock sores on my thoroughbred for months, using several types of wraps and bandaging and nothing has stayed on. This hock wrap has worked perfectly. It stays in place, is not too bulky, and the padding really protects the sores while they heal. He has only worn it for two weeks and the sores have healed and hair is already growing back

They stay on!
My horse was getting bad hock rubs and I couldn't convince the barn to add more shavings, so I got these ... they totally work! My horse seems comfortable in them and the hocks are healing nicely.

Great protection
I bought these hock boots about a month ago for my colt that is prone to hock sores. This has helped with healing. A client also purchased these for her large qh mare that despite lots of bedding developed a hock sore and has had great success for healing hock rubs

I can see how they would be beneficial!
I bought these boots about a month ago for my mare who always get hick sores. These look nice and are well padded, but my horse always has them off by morning! I've tried multiple different levels of tightness, but to no avail, she gets them off. I'm thinking that they might be too big. I ordered the L/XL after measuring my mare and buying the correct size according to the size chart... perhaps the smaller size would be better?

Easy to use
I bought the small/medium size, my horse is a 16’1 warmblood. I took the advise of others that said the size up was too big. I first let my horse wear them only while grooming to break the in. I followed the fit instructions. They worked beautifully and never fall down. Hock rubs are healing.

Can't keep them on him.
These hock shields are so close to working. I bought the large/ex large size first for my 16.1 hand gelding. I didn't want to cause other issues, so I didn't tighten them much for the first week. They were down around his fetlocks every morning until I got the right tension. Then they stretched out just enough so that they wouldn't stay in place after three weeks, but his hock sores were much improved. I ordered the medium/small size and started again. Now, after three more weeks, these have stretched and won't stay up and this morning his hock sores were back to square one - bleeding and raw.
I followed the directions for trimming the velcro to tighten up the fit on the larger pair and trimmed the smaller pair right away, although not as much. I still have some wiggle room with the smaller pair and will continue to do what I can.
I believe you're on the right track, so please don't give up. My gelding is 19 years old, a big 1250 lb. bay and has always had a very fine summer coat. As he's aged, he's gotten even more thin skinned and I hoped I'd found the solution. We've been partners since he was 5 months old and I don't want his last years to be uncomfortable. It's even hard for the farrier to work on him due to the pain and inflammation.
These hock shields are too pricey to keep having to replace them, but they're the best and most effective I've found. Bring the price down, keep working on them and you'll have a five star product and my full endorsement.

These work REALLY well
I bought these to replace my old ones that had worn out. I love the upgrade on them. They do not move! I did what others suggested and bought the smaller size. I have a 16.3 hand TB and the Sm/Med work really well.

Does the job, stays on.
Purchased for our 16hh paint gelding to heal hock sores. Use just in stall at night and they have been great. Based on other reviews, went with S/M size and they are perfect.

Works well
These work well for preventing hock sores. The new design does help them stay in place. I wouldn’t recommend turnout in these as they would twist and migrate with much movement. They are a bit hot. I was sent a package with 2 left boots and fortunately SM was able to ship a new package with right and left.

Good product
I bought my first pair last spring but I don't use them every day. I only use if the horses have to stay up on the dry lot -- like when my TB pulled a muscle last spring and had to be confined. He get's hock sores if he has to lay down on anything hard. The hock shields helped. They do stretch significantly over time, especially with washing. The first pair I ordered was a L/XL and they are starting to wear out/ getting torn. I'm ordering a second pair, in anticipation of the demise of the first pair, but this time I'm ordering the S/M. I think they'll still fit and will definitely fit after they've stretched.
Overall the product works, and I like it. I wish they lasted longer. They sometimes come off or slip down on his hoof. It's a fine line between tight enough to stay on and what I worry is too tight.

Healed my gelding in 3 weeks!
I have been battling hock sores in my 17.1H 1400lb ottb. I keep his stall heavily bedded and he was still having issues getting them healed. I decided to give his hock wraps a try, and WOW!! His sores are completely closed over and starting to grow hair in 3 weeks! I ordered the extra large size and they fit him perfectly they never fall down at night and they're easy to apply and easy to wash!! Well worth the money.

Good idea for protection, but not very sturdy
I bought these hock boots the second time because there is no alternative and they do the job. However, the material is not sturdy enough. The second pair made it only 2 months before the first hole showed up right at the hock where it is needed. I wish the company would use better material and they are pretty expensive to be replaced about every 3 months.

Awesome boots!
So far they are great! I got these hock boots because my gelding is on stall rest for a hind leg injury and no matter how deep I make his bedding he keeps getting hock sores. I'm sure its because he is having a difficult time getting up. I do take them off during the day as he isn't laying down then, making sure I put them back on in the evening. The boots are allowing his sores to heal......they dont seem to move much or twist! 2 thumbs up from me and my boy!

Exactly what I needed!
I bought this for my older gelding on stall rest. He had started to get sores on his hock. These stay on and protect his hocks. Provides just enough protection with out being
snug. Sores are now healed!

Great for old horses who have issues getting up.
My 28 year old mare is very active, but when she lies down to roll, or sleep, she has difficulty getting up. She lurches onto her hocks and pushes herself up. As a result, this past spring she developed a sore on her right hock which we could not get to heal. Another boarder at the barn recommended these. I went with the Ultra rather than regular Hock Shield as I thought the extra strapping would keep the boots on better. It has taken four months, but the sore is healed. A few pointers: 1) do not use any sticky antibiotic spray that will stick to the fleece lining (like AluShield) with these - when you take off the boot you'll take off the newly formed scab. Once I discovered this I switched to Blu Kote and the sore started healing faster. 2) even though these are lightweight, the horse's leg will sweat. Keeping them on all the time may not be a good thing. Five just wears hers for turnout. 3) Your horse will develop calluses on its hocks - once Five's healed over they are not noticeable. The boots have lasted five months and are still in good shape, though the fleece is a bit worn down. Five continues to wear hers for turnout no matter the weather to prevent more sores on her hocks.

Love these hock shields!
It's been several years since I bought my first pair of Hock Shield Ultras. Until I found them I had real problems with hock sores on my TB mare. Tried everything I could find. Asked all my horse friends and my vet for suggestions. Nothing worked for her. Then I found the Hock Shields. Wow! Solution found!!
This mare is petite so I have to do some adjusting in the fit. Still, they stay on well, hold up well to nightly wearing - current pair is about 9 months old, have had some pairs last a year. I will say she does get a sore now and then, bad stifles, hips and hocks will make getting up difficult some days. Most times the sores will heal up in a few days with a little care. If they don't I have found a way to bandage the hock for extra protection for a few days, and put the Hock Shield on top of that. These sores are minor compared to what we dealt with before Hock Shields.
Another advantage - she has some arthritis in her hocks and stifles. These Shields add just a little warmth and make her more comfortable. Have not had a problem with being too hot in the summer.
Have machine washed them and air dry. I do keep an extra set on hand (usually the older pair) just in case. Well made, sturdy outer fabric, soft fleece on the inside. Strong velcro closure. And they work!

Great Hock Shields
Love these hock shields. Easy to put on and take off, easy to clean, and they really do protect the hocks. The abrasions on my horse’s hocks are healing up nicely and almost gone. I did get a second pair to use, while the other pair was being cleaned. I hand washed and line dried the shields, although they are machine washable and drier safe according to the web site of the company who makes these. They do get “grungy” especially when applying meds on the open sores. The hock shields stayed on, no twisting or turning, and was left on 7x24. Do follow the instructions and check the shields daily for irritation or tightness. Highly recommend.
