Hock protection
These are an upgrade from what is available on other sites. Cost just a little more but totally worth it and more than satisfactory. Mare had sores on both hocks. She wears these 24/7 except when working with me. They stay on, she doesn't complain and best of all the sores are healing...FINALLY!!

Have a Hole After Just 20 Days
Unfortunately, after just 20 days of using these hock guard boots for 2 hours of turnout per day, they already have a hole worn in them. Super disappointed, these are not durable at all.

Love These Hock Guards
I have been using these for almost a year for my 22 year old mare. Within just a couple weeks her hock sores had healed up. Once in a great while they fall down, but it's only if they aren't on tight enough. They are a little tricky to get used to putting on but I am a huge fan. I have told lots of my friends about them. Great product!

Really happy with this!
My mare kept getting hocks sores on one side. This has been the best remedy to stop them! It stays on which is awesome and it seems like to it designed to be comfortable for her too! Highly recommend!

Made well, but….
They are made well, but the fleece lining isn’t conducive for holding the where they belong. My mare had them down around her feet in a matter of 10 minutes or less.

Good fitting.
I have struggled with my mare’s hock sores for nine months. I have DEEPLY bedded her stall and tried all kinds of wrapping but nothing helped until I tried these hock shields

Nice fit good quality
I'm curiuos about the reviews that said these fall off? really don't understand that one. I only use these to ride in as my 18 year old retired rope horse has some hock issues and these really help him when I ride. I find the fit good, yes they have 2 straps. I found that if you adjust the inside one and leave it alone and only then have to adjust the outside strap when putting them on.. For my horse while riding these are excellent. I don't leave the on all night long as that is not needed. I love these and so does my horse. They keep him comfortable while we exercise so I am very happy that.

Fits well, and stays on
I got these for my senior horse who gets hocks sores when the ground is hard. They stay on even with the way he pivots and pushes off his hock as he gets up. So far they are holding up very well.

They keep falling off
For some reason they keep falling off of my horse. But a fiend of mine has them on her mare and they stay on. It's a mystery.

These work, but choose a size smaller than you measure perhaps. The larges are really large, think giant thick warmblood type.

Excellent fit & protection
I have been using hock shields ultra for several years. I use at night only & they last several months. My Walkaloosa never has hock sores so long as he wears these nightly. He is a Houdini about getting any other types off!!! A great product!

Made things worse
I purchased these for a mare who was beginning to get some rubs on her hocks. Within four days of wearing these, the slight rubs became bleeding sores. Wish I could return these.

Only wish it would last longer
It really does the trick, easy to use, stays on, bed sore healed. However, it only lasted about 3 months. Repurchased, again, only lasted a couple of months. I sure wish I could purchase only one for right hock. I am now using the left wrap on the right and it is working out ok - so far.

Find something else.
Had difficulty strapping these on my horses, as the straps and velcro are extremely awkward. Came off both of my horses the first night and were ground into the stalls. Threw both pairs away the next morning.

Good Fit and Durable
I was pleasantly surprised when I received this item. I was able to get a good fit without it being too loose/tight the first time (though I did have to use the instructions). There is plenty of fleece padding and the external material is thick and sturdy that I expect it will hold up for quite a while. The only reason I gave a lower value score is that I wish I could buy just one as I only have a problem with the right hock. I will probably never use the left.

Hock protected
I’ve not been able to use the hock guard on a daily basis. I prefer to put on in evening and take off in the morning prior to turnout. A few times, it did turn but never slipped down. Finally figured out how to tighten it properly. I’m using only the right guard as a preventative to a possible hock sore. The hair has been rubbing away but skin isn’t completely exposed yet.. I do wish I could’ve only ordered a right guard but had to purchase a full pair.

not worth the money
These hock boots did not last 30 days. they tore up within less than 2 wks but finally tore all the way through. They came to pieces.

Great boot!
My barn owner recommended these boots for my senior gelding who had gotten sores on his hocks from getting up. Doctoring his sores had become a constant cycle of cleaning and applying ointment only to have to repeat the next day after he had laid down. I'm thrilled to say that after using these boots overnight in his stall for a week his sores have completely healed! They are very easy to use, stay in place very well and have held up to fairly frequent washing. I can't say anything negative about them - maybe a tad pricey but absolutely worth it! A must have for anyone with a senior!

We'll see if elastic holds up
The weak point of Hock Shields has always been the elastic, not the padding. I've had to replace it many times on two previous pairs (fortunately I have a sewing machine). The Hock Shield Ultra is a much more elaborate design. The verdict is still out whether its elastic is more durable and, when it eventually fails, whether it can be replaced as easily as on the original design.

Protected my big guy during recovery!
Two years ago, my retired Warmblood was struggling with a suspensory injury (ended up being the beginning of DSLD) and had to spend a lot of time on stall rest. He laid down more frequently to rest his legs and, despite stall mats and shavings, developed those pesky hock sores.
I thought to myself, "This isn't the first horse with hock sores... there has to be a product for this!"
SmartPak, of course, had the answer! These hock shields fit my medium-boned, 16.3hh Warmblood well (and stay up!), made naptime far more comfortable, and gave him a chance to heal! This product was a life saver.

I like the extra protection
I bought these to have a second pair of hock shields for my horse.....rainy season is coming. I wasn't sure how he would like the inner pad but he is doing well in keeping them on. These are of a good quality and made of good material and fit him perfectly.

Gave my horses MORE Rubs!
I bought these hoping they would help with some bedsores we had with our horses due to the nature of our stall footing. I had high hopes that these super fuzzy boots would be our savior!
They were not.
They actually caused more problems, rubbing on the back of the hock and inside of the leg, no matter what tension I used. I'm not sure if it's the warm weather causing the horses to sweat under them that irritated the skin overnight or what, but I'm super sad these didn't help.
We're back to vet wrap and sheet cotton now, trying to get the sores to heal over.

Decent Product
I’ve had these for about a month to help heal some hock sores. I had purchased the Rambo Ionic hock boots which I actually loved and seemed to help with some swelling my mare tends to get in that area. The Rambo boots were rubbing on the insides of her hocks though, causing hair loss. So I tried these out and unfortunately they seem to be doing the same time thing. Luckily they’re not causing sores and do seem to be helping her hock sores to heal. I haven’t had any issues with them falling off either which is great. I’d give these like a 7/10 probs.
