Only lasted three months
I bought these boots in August, and at first was fairly happy with them. They were a bit tight at first, but I know that these types of boots stretch, so I wasn’t too worried about it. After a few weeks of wearing, I was really happy with them! I wear them for a few hours every day, and I like that I can also ride in them if needed. However, after three months, they have stretched out to the point that they are uncomfortable to wear, and at four months, they are so stretched out and the inside by the ankle is worn out, even with some thick socks, they are just really uncomfortable and and giving me blisters. Definitely do not buy these boots, unless you just need a short term fix, although they are quite expensive for that!

Weird fit
I was so hopeful these would fit but they don’t… the opening of the boot is smaller than the widest part of the shaft which doesn’t make much sense to me. Due to this, I could not get them on. The widest part of my calf would have fit in the boot but the opening would not go over my leg.

Not actually waterproof :(
I was really excited to see these boots in an actual wide calf, as my docs, while waterproof, aren’t tall enough to completely protect my feet from the mud, and I work at a farm 5 days a week.
Loved these boots for the first week and a half. They fit well and are comfortable. They kept my feet nice and toasty schlepping through New York November mud, but, this morning, about 90 minutes into my shift, the feet have soaked through and now my toes are cold and wet. :(

Nicely made
I unfortunately had to return these boots due to not being able to get my foot down into the boot heel itself. Calf’s was nice and wide enough. After seeing reviews of the issues of the heel part coming apart etc from having difficulty getting the boots on I decided not to go up a size on them.

Great boots
Boots are very comfortable and very easy to break in.

Love them but maybe not as great as the II's
My River Boot IIs are still holding up extremely well after 4 years of daily winter use, both for work as a horse vet and riding. I decided to buy an additional pair this year at 1/2 size down so they would be a bit tighter in the foot and I could separate my 2 pairs from work and riding for biosecurity reasons. The 1/2 size down is pretty much imperceptible (I was hoping it would feel a bit more snug) and as others have noted, the right boot lining kind of gets stuck as you are putting your foot in. You have to carefully shimmy your heel up and down until it flattens out. I fear that if I am forceful with it that it could tear at some point. They are still warm, flattering and seem sturdy. The foot bed is very slightly pulling away from the boot material so I'm hoping that it's just a millimeter and not going to start leaking.

Comfortable until they broke
I loved these boots, they were comfortable, waterproof and great for around the barn. After one month of wear I experienced what other reviewers mentioned, the interior heel became detached, making the boots impossible to get off. Hats off to Smartpak’s wonderful customer service for making it right and taking the boots back with a full refund.

Had to cut them off due to heel breaking down...
So I previously reviewed these with 4 stars due to the awkward sizing and fit. Well, they broke in and I wore them comfortably for a while before just the other day. Lightly rode in them and basic barn chores, nothing extreme... then I went to pull them off and the sole came loose, is snagged up on my foot and ankle and even my fiancé couldn’t pull that boot off. Eventually I gave up because the further we tried to get my foot out the further the sole scrunched up making it harder to get out! Cut the boot off... I was a die hard Dublin fan and now really disappointed with the quality of these boots.

Sizing off
I own a pair of the original wide calf riverboots in size 10 which have lasted me 7 years, were a perfect fit, and very comfortable for barn work and light riding. I ordered these as a replacement, since those were so awesome. Size 10 were too small. Size 11 were too big, and no 10.5 available. I was happy with the look and feel of the River Boot III, but couldn't get the right sizing, so had to send both pairs I ordered back to SmartPak. Thankfully they have free shipping, but I guess I'll be looking for a different style or waiting until a 10.5 is available in these.

Did not have long, the heel broke
I loved these boots, they were literally so comfortable. I wore them everywhere not just to the barn. I literally wore these last Christmas to a party and was complimented on how nice my boots were. After a while they started to become really hard to get off, and it was more just on the one boot, today, when I was trying to get it off the heel part, broke in half, and I can't wear them anymore. I literally have to throw them away. I am very disappointed because I loved these boots and now have to order another pair when I have the money. Hopefully, it is before winter :(
