Was initially very satisfied, then....
Bought this for my EPM guy for bug control and anti inflammatory agent especially for nighttime turnout. He was started last June and was very happy with results. In late fall I started noticing hard pieces in the wells. They ranged in size from quarter of an inch to a half. You can not break them apart and they do not dissolve in water. I mash his food. I emailed and called SmartPak and told them. I was told it would be looked into and I would hear back. I continued to get the paks but when the hard pieces continued I finally had no choice but to cancel the supplement and am weaning him off. So very disappointed and have no idea what to replace it with. Good product, good results, terrible quality control. Would not have canceled otherwise.

Seems Very Promising So Far
I started giving this to our mini horse about 6 weeks ago. He has been plagued with Sweet Itch all summer & fall. Nothing topical seemed to work well, only lessoned the itching temporarily. Just a 1/3 scoop daily with his evening feed. Is he thrilled with the taste? Not really. But he will eat it. My mare, who is not really bothered by gnats, likes the taste but I haven't bothered to give it to her. However, I noticed that when I bring them from the pasture, she is covered in flies but he doesn't have a single one on him. Same pasture, same grain. Hmmm. Tonight I will start her on SmartItch-Ease as well.

Seems to be working well so far
I'm about six weeks in so far. For the first month or so, the itching went back and forth, but I haven't seen her itch in the past week or so. I've been using coat defense on her ears, and a coconut oil / neem oil mix on her mane and tail and the stall walls arent covered in these products anymore, so the itching is down to an absolute minimum.
My mare LOVES the taste, to the point where she will lick it from my hand and thinks it's a treat. To me, this is hysterically funny because it smells sort of reminiscent of the seasoning packet in a pack of chicken flavored Ramen.
On the suggestion of Smart Pak, I also added Smart Mare Harmony, which may also be helping.

What you need to wage war on sweet itch!
A very thoughtfully constructed supplement to help horses with sweet itch. Journey my mare who suffers from sweet itch took to this supplement right away and her inflammation is gradually disappearing. I unfortunately figured out what was going on with Journey way too late. Next year I will be ready with this product ahead of time! I am very appreciative of the thought process that has gone into this product - it pretty much leaves no stone unturned and it has a program (Equinox 360) that switches over to Omega 3 and E during the fall and winter months. This is a no brainer if your horse is suffering from sweet itch!

SmartItch Ease
My horse has been on it all summer. I misread the instructions the first half of the month and still noticed a slight change. She is not a picky eater but this may have helped her adjust to the taste. When I fed her the correct dosage the problem was solved. I am starting my fourth month and her coat is gorgeous.

Didn't work for me
My horse was super itchy at the beginning of summer - this is the first year he's been like this. I figured I'd give this product a try. He ate it no problem at all, but after being on it for 60 days I honestly did not notice a change. I thought after about 6 weeks that it was working, but then a week or so later he started scratching himself again, even worse than before. I was hopeful the itch-ease would help him but sadly it did not.

No luck with my 2 horses
I have one with real sweet itch, I still had to give her two steroid shots, and ever two treatments of antibiotics to help her. The flies caked on her like frosting. They did not detour at all. My other mare is highly allergic to flies so I assumed this would help, not at all. Rather frustrating summer for me. Discontinuing and wont buy again.

Not much luck for my guy
Unfortunately not much luck with this product for my guy. We battle sweet itch every year. This year has been particularly bad with very high temperatures over the summer, so many days where it's just too hot for a fly sheet. This product was recommended by a friend. But unfortunately after a few month no change. We usually love our smartpak products but for $50 a month will be discontinuing this one.

Works great!
Piper has dry itchy skin and is sensitive to flies. He gets beet pulp shreds/canola oil/garlic granules/ground flax seed and itch ease, three feedings a day. He is a happy boy.
Finally the right combo. Thank you.

On the fence for this one...
I have been feeding this for a month now and am not sure if it has made any difference for my gelding. He has been very itchy this year despite my feeding Smart Bug Off Ultra. I have been feeding them both but probably won't continue next year. I have had no problem with palatability.

My horse loves it and she's calmer now
My mare is not so itchy, but after 1.5 months on the product she still wants me to scratch her. However, she is much calmer and she doesn't act like she wants to jump out of her skin. I will keep her on it all year and I expect I can see wonderful results. Her coat is very shiny, too.

A lot less itchy
I ordered this for an Arabian mare that was plagued by Sweet Itch in the summer. She was relentless in rubbing and begging me to scratch her. She is far more comfortable after being on Smartitch-Ease and I am a lot less tired. She is not itch-free, but I would guess there is an 80% reduction in itchiness and no more bumps.

Can't tell its working at all
I bought this supplement almost a month ago and as much as I want it to work I can't say its working at all. I'll give it one more month and hopefully it changes my mind. Florida is brutal on horses with skin conditions and I hoped to keep my mare off of Dexamethasome this summer with this product but if it doesn't kick in soon, I'm off of this and back to Dex :(

Ok Supplement
I have a young gelding with sweet itch issues. We live in NC so the gnats are pretty terrible. Thought I would give this supplement a try to see if it helped with the itchiness.
For starters, it’s ALOT of powder. Like, holy cow. If you have a picky eater, they probably won’t eat it. It also smells very strongly. My guy would eat some of it, but some days he wouldn’t finish it all.
Since he didn’t consistently eat it, I didn’t feel like trying it for another month for the price. I didn’t notice much of a change at all.
Would it probably work better if he ate it regularly and for a longer period of time? Maybe, but at the price point, I wasn’t willing to find out.

Makes me feel better.
My horse rubs her body so hard she bleeds. The Vet and I try hard to help her. But the summer months are just unbearable for her, so we are trying Smartitch- Ease along with every thing else. No big change but it makes me feel better because I am trying.

Only comes in a powder, wish I had better results.
Overall, I am a SmartPak fanatic. I have so so many good results and with three horses you don’t want to know what I spend monthly on their supplements. Having said that, sadly this one did not make a noticeable difference for my poor allergic mare. She has severe midge/sweet itch allergies, and has to live about 8 months a year encased in a Boett protective suit. At least with that, she has a mane and tail and her belly has healed enough that she can be ridden. Her other SmartPak supplements have given her fabulous hooves, a gorgeous coat and muscles with a great demeanor. I do think the other products help a great deal. Unfortunately, during the 2 months or more she has been on this, she has actually developed more signs of her reactivity worsening so I can’t see that this has done much for her. Just one of those things. I tried. She does eat it well though.

Seems to work
My Walker is on his 2nd month of this product and it does seem to help, he’s not as itchy as before and the bugs don’t irritate him as much. He’s not real keen on eating it though. I have to really mix it into his feed and beet pulp.

Stop the Itch
Bought this and had significant change in my gelding. He was literally itching every chance he could get and now it’s only occasional. He’s so much happier.

Noticed a difference with my gelding.
My gelding that usually has itching and bug bites in the summer is doing well. This doesn’t make it 100% better, though better.

WOW update - used for a year now.
My 22 yo mare just gave birth on her own out in the field to a healthy filly , immunity test came back good. The mare is dapples and looking lovely and healthy she was on this product her entire pregnancy. The pony who shares a field licks the pan to get any powder left behind.

Great results in a short time
This was our last hope to help our horse before going with steroids. Within a couple of weeks we could see a big difference as most of the itching/scratching areas were gone & healing was happening. We were very pleased with the results.

Finally something that works!!!
I picked up a pony last year for my daughter and the lady wasn’t taking the best care of him he had rubbed his mane and tail out his entire belly was was abs hairless I’m sure from many years of neglected sweet itch, she just said oh he gets a rash in the summer but didn’t do anything about it, so I spent all last summer trying to help him doing me research feeding him this or that to try to make him better and get his coat back, I just started this two weeks ago if that and he’s not itching at all normally he is constantly swishing his tail, biting at his stomach, itching with his back hoof, rubbing on trees etc..... I was already feeding flax seed and that helps with the coat but not the itching this stuff is amazing!

This seems to work!
We’re on our second month of use and I’ll be darned it seems like it’s working. My poor horse has suffered from midges for six of his seven years. I’ve tried so many remedies and this is the best so far. He has never looked this good going into the hot FL summer. I am thrilled! So far so good.

not as effective as I'd hoped
My horse has been constantly biting himself from being itchy. I looked to see what was out on the market and found SmartItch. Unfortunately, in the 1 month I tried it out I noticed no change. For over $60 I was unwilling to go another round

So far so good!
This is a thorough explanation to hopefully help others with horses who need this:) I started my mare on this about a month and a half ago now to hopefully prevent her sweet itch from flaring up. I have tried several different things to help her with only nominal results. We live in Northern IL and the last couple of years the little gnats/biting midges that cause sweet itch have been AWFUL to say the least. They go after her belly the most along her central line so even a fly sheet truly cannot help her there. I am hopeful that this will help her this year and we started her on it plenty early to ensure it's in her system and has the most affect before things get bad. I was nervous at first about whether or not she would eat it because it's quite a bit of powder but she absolutely loves this supplement! She gets 1lb. Once a day of her Triple Crown Ration Balancer with this supplement and literally a handful of dry beet pulp pellets soaked prior to her eating them to give her something to eat with all that powder. She literally licks her feed pan clean. Hope this helps someone else, and Happy Trails!

Wow
My broodmare is 21 and last year for the 1 st time started to have skin sensitivity / allergies. At the beginning of this spring I noticed it reappearing as she was loosing her winter coat it seemed as if there was no spring coat she had huge bare patches with scalieness. she has been on high quality feed and I monitor her weight and adjust accordingly. I had been feeding her Wellactin last summer and through the winter because of what I had read about the fish oil omegas ( not easy to find) being important in breeding . Her last foal was 10 years ago so at 21 she was considered maiden again. Took second attempt , however I started to wonder if the apparent allergic reaction was infact due to the wellactin so I decided I needed to test my theory but still wanted the fish oil . Found this Smart Itch ease which has many other bennies too. When it arrived I wondered if it would all fall to the bottom of the pan and be left and so be a waste. Quite the opposite she inhales it ( mind you she is not a picky eater) , licks the pan. Not only that I have had to cut her alfalfa nuts
back by 1 lb a day . Ok so it is spring and she is
turned out on Decent pasture ( when it is not
storming or freezing in this crazy weather we have
had) but still. She is in her last trimester. Her coat
is beautiful. Too bad my phot wont load.
