Really seemed to work, needs a few hours
I have used this product 2 times. I noticed a visible difference in my high-spirited and spooky Arabian gelding both times. The first time, I administered it about 3 hours before the show and about 5 hours in, it was a very noticeable effect. At 3 hours I noticed a smaller effect. The second time, I only could get it to him 2 hours before, and it was not quite enough time. He's about 950 lbs. Will continue to use in conjunction with the Smart Calm Ultra daily supplement.

Perfect Substitute for PerfectPrep
I have used Perfect Prep multiple times but wanted to find a cheaper alternative. I was skeptical at first, due to the smaller tube, until I opened it up. It is the same consistence, color, and smell as Perfect Prep and worked just as well if not better than Perfect Prep. So happy to have found a product that works at a better price. Helps my mare to focus during distracting times.

Pleasantly Suprised!
I decided to try this on my young thoroughbred at a small hunter show. I couldn't believe the difference. He was very mellow at the trailer, didn't get upset in the warm up ring like he tends to do, and he got his lead changes without the usual fireworks. Even better, he hacked like a total pro in the flat class. He went better than he does at home. I definitely did not expect this stuff to work. That said, it does not have the same effect as ace or other drugs, it just seemed to let him relax and focus on the job at hand.

Didn't work
After reading all of the reviews on this product, I knew there were both bad experiences and negative experiences to it. I used it for trailering my overly anxious gelding and mare to a new a barn, giving it to them an hour before we loaded them, or rather, TRIED to load them. My mare walked right in, but it made my gelding feel funny and he kept trying to get back to his stall. He bypassed the calm and groggy and headed straight towards panic mode (which is what he's in normally in the trailer). Finally, after about five hours, we loaded him and he was fine after that (I'm assuming it's when it wore off). One major thing it DID help was his sweating (it was about 10 degrees that day so we didn't want that). The sleepiness stayed in their systems for the next few days for the transition to the new barn, so I liked that. I accidentally ordered too many (order only buy 2 get one 1 free if you only want three! Stupid mistake, I know!), but I probably won't use us the other four I received.

Not much of a difference
I boight 3 of these syringes in conjunction with the SmartCalm Ultra pellets. My mare has been on the supplement for about a month. I decided to try one of the syringes before the farrier came as my horse gets quite nervous and will sometimes try to rear. I gave the whole syringe ahead of time as directed, but unfortunately it did not make much of a difference. Although she never did rear she was still very nervous and the farrier was not impressed. I still have two more syringes and I am hoping they make difference when hauling to new places. I gove it 3 out of 5 stars; it did something but not enough to make it worth the price.

LOVE this for my mare... Farrier loves it too!
I have a young mare who is very fidgety when being shod. She's off the track, and my farrier takes a lot longer than most track farriers. My mare had a lot of habits like fidgeting, dancing around, pulling her feet away, etc... One tube of Smart Calm Ultra about 2 hours prior to being shod and she was much more focused and able to stand well.

Good Product
I tried this product on my new horse that is a bit nervous, I definitely noticed a difference. I need to use it a few more times to give a more thorough review but I did notice a change in my horse's overall mental state. Just a more sense of calm. He tends to grind his teeth when he is nervous, there was no teeth grinding when I used this product.

Helps with Confidence
This is not a miracle cure paste that will make your wild horse quiet, nothing will do that. However, I have a mare who tends to worry when she travels and shows. This paste works very well to make her a bit more confident in herself and at ease. There have been times I forgot to use the paste, or used it too late (only about an hour before we showed) and I definitely noticed a difference: trouble standing still at the in-gate, chomping the bit and being tense even after our round. With the paste, I can loop the rein and pat her at the end of the round and she will take a big sigh and drop her head. I've started to give it the day before we show and every day throughout the show, I attempt to give it 4 hours prior to showing. She takes the paste well and rarely spits any out. Great product, especially for the price!

Effective!
I had purchased five of these tubes in preparation of a future 6 hour haul for horses that were not very adept to trailering. I wanted to try to alleviate as much stress as possible.
However, when I showed up one day at the small boarding facility that my horses are at, I found my lead mare highly upset due to the owner moving their two horses to a different paddock away from her. She had my other four very upset due to her behavior. She's never been completely great for the farrier and used to require sedation when I first purchased her a few years ago. Well... the farrier was expected to arrive in a couple of hours on that day. Ugh!
At first, I called off the appointment and was going to reschedule for another day, as I felt she could be a danger to the farrier. I then remembered that I had the SmartCalm Ultra Paste with my medical supplies. I decided to give it a try and see what happens.
After about an hour or so, her demeanor changed drastically and she seemed to be getting her focus and calm personality back. With her attitude change, all of my other horses settled down, as well. She was still very aware of the other horses' move, but was not going out of her mind over it.
The farrier arrived. By that time, she had the SmartCalm paste in her system for about 2 hours. We trimmed her last. He stated that she was better behaved than ever during her trim. He asked me three times what stuff I used :).
The only reason why I gave it a 4 star rating, was that my mare DID NOT like the taste one bit and we had difficulty getting her to take it. However, another one of my mares came up and we gave her taste. She took it readily. Guess it depends on the horse.

What a difference!
We have a green pony that is spooky and overreactive (perhaps had a rough past and is very jumpy about more things that I can even list). I bought this, actually expecting it NOT to work (yes, I'm a skeptic) but I had to try to not only help him progress but also because our rides were so exhausting for me. I can wholeheartedly say that I can DEFINITELY tell the difference with him! (In fact, we added the pelleted supplement, also, because I'm such a believer.) It just takes the nervous edge off and lets him settle and focus. Granted, it doesn't remove all the spook, but he's really a whole different (better) pony with it! (And when he does spook, it's more of just a startle and then he'll get over it.) Plus, as a bonus, he doesn't hate taking it! Ha!

PER-FECT!!
As several other reviewers have said, "I'm buying a case!" Me too!! To have my OTTB mare, who has struggled with trailering, step off the trailer dry and calm instead of her typical drenched in sweat and shaking was not only amazing to see, but a relief and delight.
Did nothing to make her seem or act dull or uninterested in the event we went to participate in; she was alert and relaxed as she would be at home. We went on to have a great ride at a very busy hunter pace.
Now I won't hesitate to take her out and about on a more regular basis. Thank you SmartPak!!!

Calm enough in dressage, still enough energy on xc
I have a 7 year old Irish Draught who gets quite antsy in the dressage arena. He'll be great in warmup and will unravel right before we go in. I used this about an hour before I got on and it worked like a charm! He was calm, cool and collected rather than a wild giraffe not knowing what to do. I was a little worried he would be low energy on cross country, but he wasn't. I love this paste and will buy again!

Calmer show
My horse tends to get very tense and buddy-sour when I take him to new places, which has led to some hairy situations. I recently took him to a combined-test schooling show where he was a maniac during dressage. I was going to scratch from jumping but had quite a bit of down time between my classes so I decided to give him this paste after our test just to see what happened. A few hours later I tacked him up for jumping and brought him to the warm up and was pleasently surprised to find that he was a whole different horse! He was calm and focused and not worried about the other horses zipping around. During our rounds he was focused and rideable. They were definitley three of the best rounds we've put in at shows! I will definitley be trying this paste again to see if I can get the same results.

worked exactly as I hoped
I bought this a month ago to use on a horse that had not been ridden for a few years and recently moved to a new place I am going to order 3 more and then it should give him the much needed calmness to be without it

Not the best
I love SmartPak but not this calmer. It didn't seem to work on my horse. We gave it to him a few hours before I showed him and it didn't really affect him. He was still very tense. Not your best SmartPak, but I still love you!

Not For my horse
I love all my SmartPak supplements but the Ultra paste just didn't do much for my horse. He is terrified of the farrier and I thought the paste might help he was a little quieter but I can't absolutely say the paste did it. My farrier has been taking time with my Boo and I think that had more to do with it. I also think the tube should be smaller so it would be easier to give to your horse.

Tried this instead of perfect prep for my young TB at his first big show, had used perfect prep before at a schooling show and I thought this worked just as well if not better to keep him calm, relaxed and focused.

It sort of worked
I just ordered 2 tubes of the Smart calm ultra paste, for my OTTB gelding. We were going to a big 2 day dressage show and he is notorious for getting very nervous, when showing. So I gave him the whole tube 2 hours before our ride. I gave him the whole tube witch was easy to administer, and Finn liked the taste. Within an hour of giving him the paste I noticed he was much calmer and relaxed. Until started our warm up and he was a little nervous again, and during both his tests he was sort of nervous and looking around a little. But overall he was better but not what I was expecting.

Works great in combination with Magnesium!!
I bought this for my 4 year old horse, that is calm and quiet, but very unfocused at shows, I have had dressage tests where he screams the entire time!! I tried this a few weekends ago without any additional supplementation, and I didn't notice any difference. But I started using daily magnesium supplementation, and used the smart calm ultra paste about 2 hours before my classes started and wow huge difference!! My horse went through an entire warm up and test without screaming once!! I plan on continuing to use the smart calm ultra paste with the magnesium at shows until my horse grows up a little!! This was also a great choice for me because of the great price compared to some of the other calming pastes!
