So far so good
TL; DR: if your horse has constant nasal discharge (not an active infection), try this!
My horse has always suffered from seasonal allergies and constantly has a runny nose. It would cause him to toss his head occasionally and he always wanted to use anything or anyone as a scratching post. He also has a little bit of eye gunk/watery eyes as a result. He was otherwise fine and it didn't hinder his performance. A few months ago, he came down with a case of sinus infection. After a round of antibiotics, he still had occasional thick yellow nasal discharge. We scoped him and X-rayed him and the vets found nothing remarkable, just inflammation that may have been from previous tubing/scoping. Anyway, I decided to look up supplements that could potentially help with respiratory issues and came across spirulina. I was contemplating between spirulina and SmartBreathe/SmartBreathe Ultra and decided to try spirulina first since my horse doesn't have any coughing issues (he coughs once or twice when we first start trotting but it's nothing the vet is worried about). Welp, less than a week in, all the yellow discharge stopped and his eyes weren't as gunky as usual. He still has a slight runny nose but it's noticeably better than how it usually is this time of the year. We are only about a month in but I'm certain the spirulina is doing something and is not just placebo effect. I mentioned this to our vet during a recent checkup and she thought it was a good idea too and wanted me to keep her posted on how he does for the rest of the spring/summer season. So far, we are loving this product, which my horse seems to really enjoy (he's not a picky eater).

Good quality
I bought this to keep my mare on spirulina when I transitioned her off of SmartBreath Ultra. It seems to ease her constant allergy-induced post nasal drip, and she happily eats it straight.

Stopped the itch
I have 2 horses that rub their tails out every year. Tried this and they both stopped itching! It does have a strange smell, the algae I guess, but they ate it.

Picky Mare Struggles to Eat it.
My picky AQHA/FQHR mare who has heaves, struggles to eat this. I changed to stalling during the day (hot weather, no access to shade in paddock). If left in her stall she will eat it. I've gotten a better system down and she will eat it better now, but she's been on it over a month now with just a small decrease in coughing.

Smart Spirolina
With the dry weather and the heavy pollen, my young Warmblood started having some nasal drainage and slapping his ears back and forth. No signs of illness, so my vet recommended wetting his sawdust bedding and adding an antihistamine for possible seasonal allergies. Within 24 hours of the first dose his symptoms lessened and after only 2 days on this product, his nose was clean and dry, and the ear shaking stopped! He is a much happier boy! Wonderful quick results with an all-natural product, at a very affordable price! Thank you SmartPak!

Easy to feed and great for seasonal allergies
I have been using this with my miniature horse who has seasonal respiratory and skin allergies. It has helped him significantly with clearing up his skin and his nasal drainage. Easy to feed in pellet form.

Works great!!!
Got this for my gelding that has some allergy issues. At first, he didnt want to eat it, but he gobbles it easy now. After about a week, he no longer has the mild roaring and has an easier time when I ride.

What a difference!
Got this to help with mild itchiness. First off, it smells amazing and it’s very palatable. My picky mare didn’t turn her nose up at it like she has so many other supplements. It really seems to reduce her itchiness! love the mess free pellet!

Long term use - saw huge change in sweet itch!
Hi All...I started my mare on this just over a year ago during bug season - didn't see anything much as an improvement and left her on it year long. This bug season (now drawing to a close) the improvement was DRAMATIC. This is the first year in 10+ years with this mare where we did not combat a huge sweet itch on her underbelly....and we had bugs this year with such a mild winter. The trick is long term use! I'm putting my new mare on it now for next year, since she developed quite the reaction to bites (not sweet itch) and hoping for the same results.

Worked for my seasonal headshaker!
My horse is a headshaker only during the summer (July to September). Has nothing to do with sunlight as he will do it only in the afternoon while in his stall. Vet hasn’t been able to find a cause (we did a scope and head xrays) so we’ve narrowed it down to some kind of seasonal irritant/allergen that’s overstimulating his trigeminal nerve. Based on research by Dr. Madigan at UC Davis (the expert in headshaking), magnesium and spirulina are recommended for headshakers. I’ve had my horse on magnesium and AniHist and that worked last summer but was not enough to control his headshaking this year. So I added this product and the headshaking stopped within a few days and he’s only had an issue mild shaking twice in over two months. BUT the spirulina amount in this product is not enough if you give the label amount (15 g). For headshaking, I doubled it and give one scoop twice a day. The product is very palatable and my horse will eat it right out of my hand.

Allergy Releif!
I have had my TB horse on this supplement for several months now. She gets hives from seasonal allergies and insects and is prone to runny noses from allergies as well. She has been doing really well and has had no hives since starting this product! I highly recommend it if you have an allergy-sensitive horse like I do!

No more cough
My horse had a teary eye and would have to cough a bunch during our trot warmup. 2 weeks into Spirulina, her eye is clear and she doesn't cough anymore, even on days when she is stuck inside with dusty bedding.

My mare has a runny eye and during spring and summer it is red and goopy. After 2 weeks I noticed great improvement. Her eye is still a bit red but it's no longer tearing and no more goobers. She has been on this for an month and l am so happy with this supplement I started doing auto ship! I almost forgot to add it smells like bananas and she loves it.

I think it's helping!
I bought this spirulina after reading in forums that it may help headshakers. My gelding has seasonal headshaking and was really suffering some days. He is very food motivated but also picky and suspicious of new things. At first he left it in the bucket but ate it overnight. Now he eats the spirulina readily and seems to like it. His headshaking is not gone but is quite reduced. The use of a fly shield with nose piece is crucial as well. I can't prove that this is the reason the headshaking is improved from the spirulina but it is worth continuing. No downside and he looks and acts like he feels great. Energetic and nice bloom on his coat.

Spirulina works
I bought this for my horse because she has had issues with her eyes due to allergies. I have had to use antibiotic/steroid ointment previously to reduce the inflammation in her eyes. This supplement seems to be keeping things in check.

Godsend for itchy horse-update!
I wrote a review 2 months ago. Updating now that we are in midge season. Very small amount of itching around face. No itching on belly, neck, tail, legs. Definitely a godsend for my horse who would be raw with itchy sores by now. Highly recommend for anyone frustrated with this problem. Palatability fine. Eats it out of my hand or in forage.

Easier than powder!
Before using SmartPak's Spirulina we were having to use a teaspoon to measure a powder form sold by another company, It was really messy to say the least. SmartPak's Spirulina pellets are not only easier to measure and less messy, they smell amazing!

Horse wouldn't eat them
Unfortunately my old guy barely touched the spirulina and then stopped eating his other supplements. He is on a couple of meds and is highly suspicious that I'm trying to poison him.

My OTTB had been shaking his head and flipping his nose off and on for a while. Last year I noticed that it got worse in the spring so I called smartpak to see if they had any suggestions. The rep was great and suggested starting spirulina pellets, and sent out a supply immediately. I noticed a difference in his nose flipping within a couple of weeks and kept him on it until the fall. He was fine all winter without it. A couple of weeks ago I saw him start up again, as the weather got warmer, and immediately added it to my next smartpak. Within a couple of days of being on it again, the nose flipping has stopped. He is very thin skinned and normally gets welts from bug bites, but I don't recall that he had issues with that last summer, but he does wear a fly sheet, boots and a mask.
I haven't noticed any issues with palatability, he eats all his supplements in his beetpulp. I am very happy that this works.

Don't knock it, till you try it!!
I was hesitant to try this due to it only had about 40 reviews. But I really wanted something natural to help my horses allergies, so I thought I would give it a try. We live in SoCal and have *knock on wood* only had to evacuate for fires once this previous November. In this evacuation, my mini came home with a horrible cough and snot. We tried SMZs, hydroxyzine, cough ease.. Nothing worked. We ruled it out as allergies from an unknown source. I tried to give her a month with nothing at all to see if it would go away on its own, when it didn't I finally decided to give these pellets a try after MUCH research. She's been on this 1 month and her coughing has already gone down. I was going to leave a review the first week, but figured I better wait. She used to cough every few minutes, the first week it cut back to a couple times a day and now I haven't heard it cough in about a week. I plan to keep her on this for sometime and maybe try to take her off of it and see how she does! But either way, this is my new GO TO for seasonal allergies!!!
