Why We Love This

Trauma Void™’s EQ3™ helmet is the wave of the future, and the next step in brain protection technology for the equine industry. The most important component of the EQ3 helmet design is the incorporated Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (“MIPS”) technology, which has been used in bike, motor, and snow helmets for years. Safety may be the first priority of Trauma Void’s EQ3 helmet, but it has also been designed for comfort, style, and affordability. The design features a removable and washable COOLMAX® lining inside with great ventilation.

Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) technology has been tested over countless hours and is proven to offer better protection against rotational motion than a helmet without MIPS. Since 1996, research and tests have been performed to compare a helmet with the MIPS Brain Protection System to a conventional helmet. The results showed that it was possible to redirect and reduce the rotational motion transmitted to the brain by adding the MIPS Brain Protection System.

These tend to run small we recommend rounding up to the nearest cm and then go up one size.

To measure your head for the best fit, use a tape measure in centimeters. Place the tape measure ½ - 1 inch above the eyebrows (it should skim the tops of the ears), and take it round to the fullest part of the head. This is the circumference of your head in centimeters, and you should choose a helmet size that is in this range.

Firmness and tightness can feel similar when wearing your helmet, so take notice to the difference. When wearing the helmet, the brim should be about ½ - 1 inch above your eyebrows and level across. You should feel a firm, even pressure around the circumference of your head. No gap should exist between your helmet and head.

Your Trauma Void will have included two removable and washable Coolmax® liners. The liner that comes in the helmet has an even thickness the entire way around.  The liner included in the small bag attached to the hang tag is a thicker liner and can be better suited for those with oval-shaped heads. In order to determine the best fit try each liner individually. The Trauma Void™’s EQ3™ is great for a round fit but the slightly different levels in liner padding can assist with an oval fit.

Trauma Void EQ3 Microfiber Helmet is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from very small My current IRH schooling helmet is over 10 years old, so I decided it was time to get a new one. Nothing beats the comfort of my Charles Owen Wellington show helmet, but I can’t afford that as an everyday helmet when there are a number of safety-acceptable cheaper ones on the market. Additionally, my CO doesn’t have a lot of ventilation, so not so good on hot summer days. Ventilation is important to me, not just to avoid having hair plastered to your skull in a sticky mess after riding, but studies show that cognitive functioning (ie decision-making) can be adversely affected as temperatures rise above 77 degrees. And I can tell you it’s been more than 77 degrees in my CO many times so I’ll blame that on my tendency to go off course in the ring. Before buying this Traumavoid helmet I did some research on MIPS technology. I was surprised to find that although it has been used in bike helmets for years, the effectiveness of the technology is somewhat controversial, mostly due to different testing methods. Many helmets handle rotational impact better than others even without MIPS. Some independent testing agencies expressed concern that MIPS seemed more salesmanship that science, while others said yes it made a difference. I purchased the Traumavoid because of the good price point and the thought that while the benefit of new technology may be arguable, no one said it was detrimental. When I received the Traumavoid, I noted the addition of the hard yellow plastic liner, the liner that moves on rotational impact. It seemed to me that this helmet would be very, very hot, as the liner has very few and very small openings for ventilation. And, although I took all the advice from other reviews and sized up, it was still too small for me. So, instead of exchanging it for a larger size, I returned it and bought the more expensive One-K Defender which has loads of ventilation, looks good and fits well but has no MIPS. I’ve ridden in it several times and find it has better ventilation than my old IRH which was pretty good. I can’t say for sure that the Traumavoid would have been exceptionally hot as I never rode in it. Had their sizing been better I might have tested it out but to be honest I don’t have the patience to keep ordering/reordering these types of things to get a good fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value I can't say enough great things about this helmet. I feel so much safer in the ring or on the trail. Fits perfectly. Can ride in it all day. I would definitely recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice feel Chin strap could use to be a little more adjustable. Seems a bit long but otherwise the helmet itself feels secure, professional looking. I feel better too having it on my noggin!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous Helmet I really like this helmet- when it came, it was a little bit too snug but I am confident the next size up will fit really well, especially since there are two options for a liner, to best fit your head. Having ridden in a Charles Owen for shows, I can tell I will like this helmet much better. First of all, it has the latest and greatest in terms of protection with the MIPS, secondly, it has vents for air circulation. Lastly, it is just a nicer shape and doesn't make you look like a bobble-head like CO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from super comfortable! This is a great helmet that fits really well, make sure you measure your head well :) I love the feel and how it fits, I keep it covered and will uncover for shows.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really like this helmet. 5 ⭐'s Beautiful helmet and is extremely comfortable! I watched the sizing video on Youtube and did size up. Accurate fit. Very comfortable. Love the extra subtle bling on it. My head is important so I researched the mips technology and decided on this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great fit I have only used the helmet once for a show, and several people commented on the nice little bit of bling that was visible. I am glad I went for the microfiber for showing, may get the smooth for everyday. I hope it holds up well, and is truly better technology for safety, being that I had a concussion last year. The only thing is the video says the ear loops should come down to earlobe, this one does not, but I don't see how it can negativity effect any safety feature.
