Best I have used
Best I have used. The basket is small in circumference for a very large horse. Mine is a warmblood and the large basket fits him. May be snug for a drafty head. The halter adjusts well everywhere. I wish it had padding, but you can add that. It has a snap closure which is helpful for getting on and off easily. The best parts are the open breathing space and the “eating hole” is a better size than most. Most are too small.

Hard for horse to remove - with modifications
So I am here to buy muzzle #2. Long story, but my trainer made modifications to the first one to include taping the velcro closed, and putting a second "throatlatch" out of twine higher up where one usually goes (as opposed to the one the halter comes with that buckles in front of the jowl). This worked great and my horse couldn't remove it!
Then... well, she got it hung up and the breakaway features the trainer taped shut somehow failed. Who knew! The good news is, as she lifted a gate off its hinges and could've tried to run with it stuck to her face, the rubber tabs holding the nose onto the nylon gave way and the muzzle released off the gate.
So props for additional safety features - we are going with that rather than a quality / stitching issue - in case you are as gullible as I was and tape the velcro on yours too. The muzzle ripping apart possibly saved her life (she is big and dumb and young, and can panic with the best of them).

Doesn't last long
I have bought five of these for my pony over this year. She has rubbed off four of them and they were unfortunately destroyed by the brush hog. The one that has not been rubbed off in the pasture, worked VERY WELL, WHILE IT LASTED. The area around the little hole wore so thin in less than two week's time! She is out grazing all day and night with the rest of the herd. She needs it to prevent obesity and laminitis.
Lately, I have been repairing it with duct tape to keep the hole small. Just wishing it was more durable.

Wish they lasted longer than 10 hours 23 minutes
Was so very excited that these fit all three pretty well. Well, rubber broke at nose strap in less than 12 hours. Huge bummer.

Basket too small for “large horse”
I ordered the largest size available, but the basket of this muzzle is still way too small for our horses, and has caused terrible rub spots under their chins. In addition, the openings around the nostrils are cut too low, and have caused rub spots there as well.
I do like that this muzzle has a clip instead of velcro at the throat latch- helps improves function and speed when taking on and off.

Good muzzle if you have to use one.
This is my third purchase of this muzzle in about 5 years. I found that sometimes the muzzle rubs so I use Gold Bond Friction release on the horse lips/muzzle which has fixed any rubbing problems. The failures are when my horse steps on the muzzle and the nose piece between the nostrils holes breaks. this has happened twice so I'm buying the third one.

Well made
I have used the Tough 1 Grazing Muzzle on my over weight mini donkey. It is the only muzzle that will stand up to his rough treatment. While he will eventually break it - it takes a very long time.

Pony size can fit my mini
At first I thought “No way!” but it adjusts enough to work on my mini donkey! It seems more comfortable than his closer fitting muzzle and still keeps him from eating non stop.

Rubbed sores
Used the horse size muzzle on two quarter horses for 4 turnouts that ranged between 3 - 5 horses. Adjusted both so that there was approximately 1 inch from tip of nose to grazing muzzle and I could get 4 fingers on side. Both horses had sores after 2 turn out. A smart pak you tube video recommended using moleskin, fleece, or duct tape. Tried moleskin and duct tape on areas of muzzle that were rubbing. The pictures were taken after the 4th turnout

Easy breathe grazing muzzle
I wish my horses didn't have to wear any muzzle, but given their propensity to gain weight too easily, it is necessary and the best one out there in my opinion is the easy-breathe. Great features especially a large enough opening to breathe well, important in this hot weather. Price at SmartPak is good, and service, as always, is great. I get oversize even though my horses are not really large horses but do have good sized heads as they are of the baroque breeds and they will get rubs in the regular horse size.
