The Better Buckets broke
I loved the three buckets that I purchased in April. Unfortunately one of them broke at the back where they attach to the bucket bracket after a couple of months and I thought it to be a fluke. Now all 3 of them are broken. If your horse bumps into these buckets or rubs on them they break quite easily. I witnessed the moment when one of them broke. The design is great and hopefully the holder of the patent will make some improvements with regard to the materials used. I notice on the tag that they are "made in China." With years of use I have never had a Fortiflex flat-backed bucket break but these didn't even make it through the summer.

great bucket for larger horses
This bucket allows my larger warmbloods to access their feed and water with ease compared to the standard buckets. We use them at home and on the road. No more nose or forhead rubs. Also easy to clean and stack. Great value.

Excellent bucket!
I bought this bucket special for my Norwegian Fjord given his large-sized head (regular buckets are less than accomodating). This bucket is PERFECT; he now has plenty of room and eats in comfort. It fits nicely in the stall and is easy to clean. Thank you SmartPak for offering our horses an ergonomic design!

Great product
This is a great product. I use it for his grain feeding. I have a draft cross and he has a hard time fitting his head in a regular bucket. Not sure how I would like it for water as it sticks out aways, and if it was knocked it would spill a large amount of water. Where the handle is attached to the bucket, the hinge needs to be closed up as it will catch tail hair. Will need to cover. Also not sure how well it would hold up to a bucket rubber. Not as thickly made as some other brands.

I love this bucket, the size is perfect for getting a big horsehead with a rope halter on, to the bottom of the bucket.

Working well so far
I haven't had the bucket for very long, but the shape is perfect for my draft cross who had a hard time getting to his grain at the bottom of regular Fortiflex-type buckets. Now he's actually getting his full grain ration! It has held up well so far.

Waste of money
My 6 year old Oldenburg/TB gelding broke this bucket less than one week after putting it in his stall. I told him he was not getting another one since I could not afford $16.00 a week for buckets. Had it held up, I would have liked it very much!

Inferior Material
What a great concept and design, but what terrible material!!! Too rigid, not thick enough? I'm not a plastics expert, so I'm not sure. I have had this bucket for about a month, and it has split down the side under the handle. all the way to the bottom. Maybe customer service can help, as this has turned into expensive trash.

Issues
I have gotten 4 of these buckets to try before buying 12 for my barn. The design is great but one cracked for no reason and the other I found in pieces in the stall. I have no clue how the horse took it apart. I can not get it back together. Will wait for next shipment and send back in box. A rubber one with the same design would be a better idea!!!!!

Handle problem
I had previously written a review and extolled the virtues of this bucket except the turn back on the handle needing to be better prepped.
Well, my horse didn't like the time change and his lack of patience was taken out on the feed bucket. The bucket itself is unharmed. The handle however, came apart in pieces. I am going to try taking an old lead rope to replace the handle but in the interim, have another Better Bucket in the pasture for his use again.
I still like this bucket but feel if the handle were connected to the bucket with the metal under the rim, it really would be the very best of buckets. To just have a slim piece of metal under the slips for the handle seems a shortcut that needs to be corrected.

Performing perfectly
I noticed some of the reviews commenting on the handle and admit I would love to see those turn backs be tighter and covered with rubber tips. I bought three of these buckets and only one came with rubber tips on the edges of the handle. I took duct tape to the other ones which works well and as the weather takes its toll on the rubber tips, plan to use more duct tape.
My horse no longer flips his pasture fence mounted bucket, dumping his supplements and feed on the sandy soil so that alone made the purchase worthwhile for me. Plus when I put a slurpy mash or shredded carrots in with his meal, he can easily lick up all the tasty bits.
This bucket has held up to over six months of wicked weather. I have to flip it over to drain out the water that collects during rain storms but that's it. And while I can readily flip the bucket, my horse does not seem to desire to do so.
Friends at the barn where I board my horse have all complimented the design and one has purchased the bucket for her horse too.

Great Bucket!
This bucket is great! I purchased one a few months ago for my draft cross whose head filled up a regular bucket, and this bucket's design is much easier for him to eat out of and not poke his eyes on the rim. When I saw how great it was, I ordered another one for another one of the horses, and it does a wonderful job.

Grain stays in bucket
Accomodates a large quarter horse head. Saves on my grain bill and supplements, they no longer get tossed out and end up on the ground.

Good idea but needs improving
My first impression of this product was positve. It does accommodate the horse's facial structure better than a typical flat back bucket. The handle could be improved. It is weak and bends too easily. The ends seem to be a bit of a hazard which could catch a tail, cut a face or hurt an eye. I have had to use a pair of pliers to clamp shut the open ends of the handle.

What took so long
My equine chiropractor and veterinarian both felt that this allowed my warmblood to eat his mash without hyper-flexing at the poll...tremendous for a horse with a back and poll issues. He can easily fit his head into the bucket and now he is finishing his mash. No more flinging out mash or rattling the bucket around to get to his food.
I agree with previous reviewers, the handle gaps badly where it meets the bucket. A huge safety issue but easily fixed by my beloved shoer with a couple of taps.

Great bucket
This is a great bucket, very good design. I bought this for my old horse who was getting rub marks from her old bucket. She loves this one and spends more time eating, finishing up her grain. I'm buying another one for my other horse.

Great Idea
My horses love this bucket, they don't toss it around like the regular ones. If you need to feed on a fence this is much more acceptable to the horses. It is huge, and they can get their heads all the down to the bottom without scraping their faces.

Got To Have Bucket
Bought for draft horse and it is perfect for her. QH was banging around with his normal bucket and spilling grain so I decided to try it for him. The banging stopped and grain no longer goes flying. WOW! This is my new grain bucket for any size horse. Very smart. Only negative is no color selection.

large bucket
I feed my 2 older horses outside on rubber mats & needed a large bucket for the 30 y/o with almost no teeth (he drops food all over). Like another person said in their review the metal handle does not close all the way - one side was open about 1/2 inch. I put vetwrap around both sides of the handles on buckets & it seems to be fine. These buckets are very large & do tip forward sometimes but have stood up well. Neither horses had any problem eating out of the the first night.

The Better Bucket
If you must use buckets to feed your horse, then this design just can't be beat. The bucket is large and spacious enough for the horse to eat it's feed without having to bump sides or move the bucket around to keep the feed in the center. The overall design is great, though I would like to see it in a more flexible style bucket, with stronger handles. I originally bought the smaller ones, and decided I needed the larger ones. So far, they are holding up very well...going on 6 months. i did buy another set for back up.

Finally no more face cuts from the bucket handle!
I decided to try this bucket because my mare was constantly getting cuts above her eyebrows from hitting her face on the handle of her regular bucket. Now she can get her head in there and eat without bashing her face up, and she can easily get all of her grain, too. If she's happy, I'm happy!

Good idea...bad execution
I love the idea of this bucket...mine just came in the mail today. I can't believe no one thought of this sooner. I have one MAJOR concern. Where the metal handle threads through the actual bucket and turns back on itself...the little edges are fully wrapped in plastic as are normal buckets. However on normal buckets they are pressed tight to the other side...these have HUGE gaps with more than enough room to snag an eyelid, halter or crib strap...one side is almost 3/4" gap. I have never seen a bucket with a gap this large. I know from experience that halters get caught on these and I have had one expensive eye surgery due to an eyelid being snared and ripped clean off. I will keep the buckets but wrap the edges in vetwrap to prevent snagging. Poor design in that regard. Hate having to modify something for safety sake straight out of the box.

This bucket really works!!
I have a draft cross gelding that likes to throw his grain, even in the deepest tubs. I even put rocks in the bottom but nothing stops him and he tears up his feed tubs in the process. Since I put the Better Bucket in his stall he does not throw his feed and he doesnt rattle his bucket at all - and no rocks! This is truly an amazing bucket that actually does what the ad says.

Great design!
I plan to use this bucket at endurance rides. At rides, my gelding lives tied overnight with two regular flat backed buckets full of water. However, he rarely drinks more than a couple inches of water off the top, drinking more only when I top off the afore mentioned buckets. He obviously does not like to push his head down into the buckets to get more water (discomfort or fear maybe?). That is a big concern for me, since it is very important that he stays hydrated at rides. I am really looking forward to trying out my Better Bucket but the competition season is over for for this year. I am so impressed with the design of the Better Buckets that I plan to buy more before next season starts!

so BIG!
I just received this bucket yesterday and was surprised at the size. I wish I had taken the time to figure out how big it actually was before I ordered it. My mare gets only about 2 cups worth of supplements in the evening, and this bucket dwarfs that. But, it's a great design and she seemed very comfortable using it.
