As riders and online shoppers, we know it can be tough to buy a new bridle or pair of boots without trying them on. That's why we moved the fitting room to your living room (or barn)! From breeches to blankets, if you or your horse can try it on, you can return it, free! Just use the pre-paid return label included in your order within 60 days from the purchase date. And of course, please make sure the item is in like-new condition with original packaging (we said 'fitting room', not 'war room'!).

Why We Love This

The Stubben Pelham is designed with shorter shanks than a traditional pelham.  This reduces the leverage but allows a quicker more direct action between reins and mouthpiece allowing the rider to have a direct impact on the horse with a short and quick rein movement.    Such impact is very useful for jumping, especially when having to turn fast in between jumps.  The Stubben Pelham comes with a curb chain that can be used tightly (to increase mouth action) or loosely (to increase leverage).  Sweet Copper metal on the link offers the advantage of combining strength with a sweet taste.  While being tough, the sweet copper metal offers the main advantage of having a pleasant sweet taste, which will make the horse chew and salivate and therefore further relax and more easily accept the bit.

Favorite Features

  • Stainless Steel on cheeks and most of the mouthpiece
  • Sweet Copper metal on the link to increase acceptance of the bit
  • Designed for riders with skilled hands who wish to make light use of the hands while providing maximum results
  • Shorter shanks for more direct impact
  • Flat curb chain hooks prevent the horse's lips from being pinches

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Short shank double jointed Pelham from Stubben My mare likes this bit. Needed something extra over fences without putting anything harsh in her mouth. Tried full cheek, slow twist etc, but mare still worried. She is like butter in this. Yeah!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, must-have bit This is a solid, well-made bit as expected from Stubben. Worth the price tag for the quality machining (smooth connections everywhere) since this is a bit you know you'll have in your collection for good. I personally think this one is equally as good as anything more expensive like the Sprengers. Comes with a chain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit Mouthpiece is gentle and encourages the horse to accept the bit. Some leverage and the curb chain allow greater control

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful bit as always from Stubben Does what it's supposed to and looks nice doing it. I bought it to have a little something more out foxhunting and plan to use it in an EQ class I entered as well. Expensive, but I know it will last forever as my other Stubben bits look as good as they day I bought them many years ago. I like the short shanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the last of about 5! found this beautiful bit and best of all, my 5 y/o t'bred loves it! i am getting used to the 4 reins and feel quite comfortable and at easy, knowing i have brakes and emergency brakes! haven't had to use the latter too much, though. Tate is very accepting and happy in this new setup. i think the copper joint is what has done the trick!
