What a steal!
The SmartPak Triple Stitch Halter is a great value! This halter arrived and the leather was soft and supple. The hardware is heavy-duty and feels very durable. This halter is stunning and cheaper than many high-end leather halters I have used in the past. The horse size fits my 17 hand warmblood perfectly. I will definitely be buying a few more!

Disappointing Product
I bought this earlier in the summer and had the nameplate added as well. It is on the surface pretty but I was so surprised at how dry the leather was on arrival. I have been conditioning it thinking it would soften but have not had any luck. I should have sent t back immediately but I am regular leather cleaner/conditioner and thought I could turn it around, but that is not the case.

Beautiful halter! I got lots of compliments! I had Walsh halter for years and I decided to go a horse show last minute and this halter was the only one that would come in time so I went for it. It definitely compares to a Walsh halter. Highly recommend!

Loving it so far
I just received my new halter a few days ago and really like it so far! I worked with friends who had SmartPak halters for their horses and thought I'd check them out. These halters checked off so many boxes for me, plus some that are just icing on the cake, like fitting extra letters on the name plate. It was nice and soft on arrival, not greasy, still like I've seen on other new leather halters. Would definitely recommend and order again.

I just received this halter, so I can’t tell you how it will hold up but so far I like it. The first one I ordered was too small for my horse and I was easily able to return it and exchange it for a larger one even though I had ordered a name plate on it too! Customer service was extremely helpful!

It’s okay
I was awarded a gift certificate at the Morgan Horse World Championships that should have covered the amount that was a triple stitch halter with a plate. At a grand total of nearly $100(halter and plate plus tax) the halter did not quite meet my expectations. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice halter, but it’s stiff, the buckles are too small for the width of the leather making the crown piece very difficult to buckle/unbuckle. At this price, I expect soft, supple, oiled leather with hardware that isn’t going to scrape the edges of leather.
I will add that the plate was done beautifully. They were able to use the normal engraving from the championships, so I was appreciative of that.
So, all-in-all, it’s a okay halter that I’m glad I had a gift certificate for and it will look good on a wall. But, I will continue to purchase halters for daily, or show use elsewhere.

I bought the chestnut halter several months ago and LOVE it. Just purchased the Havana one for my other horse, and it’s quite the opposite. The leather is dry and cracking, the name plate has a scratch on it, and the leather itself feels cheap...

Quality has gone down
I had purchased a smartpak triple stitch halter two years ago. I was very happy with the quality, so happy that I was going to replace my other horses cheaper leather halter with this so they both could have buttery soft halters. Unfortunately the quality is no where near the same as the previously purchased halter. The second I pulled it out of the box I was disappointed. It is stiff and creaky when you bend it, and the edges are dyed, unlike the previously purchased halter that was made with a higher quality leather which was really well oiled, so the color was consistent all the way through and they didn’t need to dye the edges. This halter is the same quality as the halter I was replacing, which there was absolutely nothing wrong with, I just wanted to have two nice halters.

The quality and price of this halter were fantastic! I will say they run a little small- my horse wears a cob sized bridle but the cob halter was too small. The horse size fits perfectly and is lovely!

Poor Hardware
Unfortunately after 1 year of light use (NEVER has been used for turnout) the hardware has broken on the chin strap.

Great for price, skip the name tag
The halter quality is lovely for this price. Very disappointed in the quality of the nameplate. The ink from the engraving has bled and smudged after only a few months of use (about an hour a day and always stored inside). Next time I’ll get a nameplate elsewhere!

The halter feels quality, but the hardware is a fake-gold color. It will work just great for what I ordered it for (only halter for a sale horse), but if I had it to do again, I would probably pay just a bit more and get more quality hardware.

The Ideal Halter
I bought my halter in October 2017, black horse size with brass fittings. Today, August 2019, I gave it a good cleaning for the first time in ages and realized how badly I needed to review this thing!
Initially: It came to me with the brass plate I ordered already affixed, done straight and sturdily attached. The leather was pleasantly stiff, the kind that I know to break-in to butter soft with time and care, without stretching too much or lacking sturdiness. The straps were all of the same type/quality of leather to my understanding, and there were no rough edges or uneven stitching that I could see. The spring-loaded throat snap was smooth to operate and not painfully tight to clip, and I liked the fit and adjustability for my long-faced TB cross.
In two years, my feelings haven’t changed and this halter has aged beautifully. The leather has broken in to mold perfectly to Mozart’s face, and is soft and pleasant to hold, though still so sturdy. The throat clip feels the same as it did the day I pulled it out of the box. The brass fixtures show no Signs of stress which I especially appreciate after my boy snapped the metal throatlatch ring of his first halter, and the (not breakaway) leather of his second. This halter is kept in a dry area where it is out of the rain, but at one time was dropped in the snow when the entire halter box broke and left for about 12 hours before it was found, wiped down, and showed no sign of it’s adventures, while all of the nylon halters with it had to be tossed after they dried and shrank up. Another plus of leather! Over the two years I’ve had this halter, my only qualm is that the name-plate has oxidized, but this is a minor detail to me and I did zero brass maintenance for the first year and a half of owning it. I would call this a show halter, but it is so useable and handy that I think they’re best used every day! Unfortunately the website currently isn’t allowing me to upload photos, or I would share them!

Excellent quality for the price! Sturdy and good looking. I bought the chestnut because of the reviews saying Havana was oily. I gave it a good conditioning with lederbalsam and am very pleased. Would definitely buy again.

Poor quality of craftmanship
This halter broke the very first time I used it on my Tennessee Walker. The stitches came right out and glue didnt hold the leather together.
