Love these! So excited for the 1.5”! I would love smaller sizes too especially for my minis!

Great hay bag.
Just bought my 4th one. I love the design. I was super excited to buy the coral reef version too. But I was disappointed in that it is much more a light neon orange. I have the coral reef pad that I do like. I'll end up keeping it since it doesn't have free returns, but it is very bright.

Only Fits One Flake
I really wanted to love this hay net, but it really only fits one flake of hay (with some effort). It does seem to be made of very durable material, but the wire in the top also starts to warp quite quickly.

These work great!
Slows down my horses feeding so that they don't have so long between feedings. I have an older one that my horses managed to rip, but I was able to have it repaired by the local boot repair shop.

A big flaw in this great bag...
A friend uses these bags and I had to have one. I managed to score the large one on sale. Yay, me! I use this one in rotation with other bags - two are Shires premium net bags from Dover, one is the Tough-1 bag similar to this, and two of the Weaver “briefcase” bags. The Shires net bags win for overall durability. The Tough-1 is awesome, but the metal clips/rings rust/break. The Weaver bags my horse hated with a passion and aren’t that durable. This bag is my favorite for loading, hanging, and use. I clip it up to a simple eye bolt and we are good to go! Except...last night I noticed the metal bar across the top has ripped through the nylon webbing that envelopes is. I expected the metal bar to get a bit wavy with use, but I didn’t expect it to come out the end, which is something the Weaver bags like to do after only a few uses. I’ve had this less than 4 months and it’s used a few times a week at most. My horse is not destructive or hard on things, so I’m uncertain as to what the issue is. Normally, SmartPak items are amazing. I’d thought this would be, as several friends rave about them. But, for even the sale cost, I’d think it should last more than @30-40 uses for 10 hrs a day inside a barn. I am bummed, but I’m going to ask about returning this one.

Slow feeder hay net
I’ve had a similar Smartpak haynet that lasted a few years. This is my second haynet with the smaller 1.5” holes. These nets are very durable and easy to fill. My old one had three rings that you could use to hang it with clips. I liked that design because it kept it more secure. The new design only has one ring and needs to be tethered down to keep it from flying everywhere. Overall it’s well made but I liked the older design better.

One of my new favorite hay bags!
After farm sitting multiple times for a friend who used this hay net for his horse, i was not impressed. My goal at home is filling nets less frequently, so the size limitation on these was frustrating to me. In winter, I either feed a round bale in a net or I pull off of round bale to fill the shires haylage bags which are HUGE and can fit an enormous amount of hay. However, I have horses as well as sheep, and the sheep are NOTORIOUS hay wasters- once it hits the ground it is never considered edible and turns into bedding, it drives me nuts. So this year when I happened to have a pony on stall rest and lambing season was looming over me, i decided to splurge on these and see what happened. I got the 4 flake size in 2" and 1.5" holes. So far I've used the 2"holes for the pony and the sheep and both seem to be working great. It is very easy for me to stuff efficiently since I'm not dealing with formed flakes, and with the pony in the stall I can overstuff since I hang it high enough that I don't worry about her reaching through the top. I can put about 9.5 pounds of hay in with a little effort and still close the velcro, I can force more in but it does get harder to close. I put less in for the sheep since they consume less, but I have to say the 1.5" holes are working GREAT for them. Much less waste. I also have a shires greedy feeder net which I believe has 1" or 1.25" holes- they don't take to that one as much and i feel like they don't eat enough with it. I do feel confident that my horses would eat fine from the 1.5" holes but haven't tried it yet. There is still some hay on the ground with the 2" holes but it is considerably less than with the string type nets. I will still continue to use the shires haylage nets for general feeding through the winter, due to their extra large capacity, but for any animals being kept near the barn where it is more convenient to refill hay nets more often, these will be my go- to!
I do see an issue with my pony trying to flip the bag to get to the other side and bending up the gator mouth metal pieces, so I do hope they will hold up to that alright long term. My neighbor's horse didn't seem to try that trick. I do see the velcro getting filled with hay bits, but it hasn't been a problem yet, and my neighbor's bag still has some velcro action to it and it is a couple years old i think.
I would suggest that smartpak redesign these hay nets to have a squared off/ shaped bottom to them, even filling with loose hay, I never get the corners filled. I also think having the 2 rings in the middle works great but it would be a brilliant addition to put a ring at either end of the top too so it could be secured to protect the metal in the top from excessive wear and abuse. I'd also love to see these in one size larger to fit more hay in them. And offering a 1" or 1.25" hole option would be awesome as well. I honestly don't think anyone is being slowed down with the 2" holes, and i don't think my sheep are slowed with the 1.5" holes, but the waste is definitely reduced.
Overall I am happy enough with these to invest in a few of the smaller size in both hole sizes for use in the trailer and short trips when i don't need such a large meal available. It does add up though, these things are pricey... so i really hope they will last many years! Maybe Smartpak will consider offering a warranty on these like with their Ultimate blanket line, if they make them super durable and really stand behind them, I'd think they would be the most popular hay net out there! When something like a blanket or hay net comes with a warranty, it really does give a lot of reassurance that it is made to last and is worth the investment!!

Well made but flips around
We have a horse (35 yo) who will make a huge mess in his stall with loose hay. We’re having trouble finding hay bags (they fix the problem) that he doesn’t destroy in a couple of weeks. This one is large and easy to fill, and it seems sturdy. The problem is the single loop in the center of the bag. He flips it all over the place, and when it turns around, he gets no hay because the back is solid(which is very helpful for filling it).
We’re back to trying to find one with two hooks that is easy to fill and sturdy. This did not work. To be clear, I have no complaint with the quality of the bag, we just need for it to be more stable.

So I have a variety of slow feed hay bags. This is the smallest. It fits maybe a flake, if you want to fit more, good luck. The velcro at the top I feel is unnecessary. It is well made. There is no dimension at the seams, which would be a plus if it was added. It is tough to get hay in. Next time I would order the biggest size, you dont always have to fill them up!

The whole barn loves it
I chose this hay bag because it looked sturdy enough to stand up to my big, hungry, crafty guy, who is currently on a diet. I worry that the little string bags are not tough enough for him. Our trainer has subsequently bought this same bag for her horse, because the staff told her it is so easy to load. I'm very happy with the product! I got the 1.5 inch holes, and it is working to slow down his eating.

One of my new favorites!
I have tried a few different styles of hay bags and so far this might be my new favorite! I purchased the four flake bag with 1.5 inch holes. I would recommend getting the four flake bag as opposed to the two flake. It fits two flakes comfortably and could probably hold four, but you would have to shove them into it. When I first opened the bag it does appears huge. The bag is very easy to load, and I was able to hang it nicely with a utility strap purchased elsewhere. My horse likes it and it does slow him down quite a bit, but I would love for SmartPak to make the bag with smaller holes. Hopefully it holds up for a while!

These are great hay bags!
We board horses and right off the start decided no hay in wall racks or ground feeding. Purchased 4 of the smaller 2 flake bags over a year ago. Yes, they are a little tricky to load a full flake, but if you treat it like a pillowcase and get the flake started then shake it down loads right in. I can usually load another flake right next to the first. I don’t mind cramming hay in the bag, so we average three flakes in each bag. Just purchased one of the 4 flake bags and my husband raved about how easy it was to fill...so I just ordered 2 more! We run a short chain around 2 stall bars, through both loops and clip with carabiner to secure bags. My violent eater has a fun time with the small swing as he’s trying to rip out hay. These things are indestructible.

Love these!
I've been using these for over 3 years. They are strong and hold up under abuse by hungry horses. I use them to save hay and keep hay available for the horses longer. Especially in the winter. I use the four flake 2 inch opening hay bags. I use screw eyes to hang them for the horses. I've found that they are easier to fill when hanging on the hay room wall and rope binding hooks work great to slide them on and off quickly. Obviously, you wouldn't use these for use by your horses.

Excellent for my destructive mare!
I bought this for my mare who slurps down hay like spaghetti and then gets offended when it's all gone. I had initially bought her a hay net, but she's destructive and she destroyed the net overnight. I bought this one in hopes that it would hold up to her destructive tendencies and it has! It's been a few weeks now and there are no chew marks on it at all - either she has no desire to chew on this or it can withstand it! It doesn't slow her down enough, but makes her eat her hay like a normal horse

I have had this hay bag for about a month. I bought it to make filling a hay bag easier for feeders. It is the opposite of easy to load. I have to stuff one flake in at a time and it's a struggle to do so. The 2 flake hay bag definitely does not hold 2 flakes. I should've gotten the larger size if I wanted 2 flakes in the bag without a disastrous time filling it. Bay is sturdy and holding up well, it's just too small and obnoxious to fill.

This is a lasting quality hay bag. It was quite the talk at my barn. The other women there loved it, you would of thought we were eyeing jewelry! Lol! The webbing is strong, the opening is wide and the Velcro has a lot of strength to keep it closed. My mare loves it!

Very sturdy bag!
This hay bag is very sturdy and well-constructed. So far, it seems to be indestructible, which is good because my Appy mare takes it off the hook each night and tosses it around her stall when it is empty. Even with all the abuse, it is still like new. The small holes slow her down, and give her something to do. she has Equine Metabolic Syndrome, so the limited amount of hay she is allowed has to "last" so she doesn't gobble it all up in a few minutes. I should have bought this years ago.
