The SmartPak Deluxe ErgoTech High Neck Turnout Blanket is packed with innovative details developed around equine anatomy. This extended neck cut provides more coverage and protection against inclement weather, and is also ideal for higher-withered horses. Hook and loop tabs allow the extended length to be rolled back and clipped into a standard neck position when not needed on warmer days or inside a stall. A waterproof 1200D ripstop poly exterior will keep your horse warm and dry throughout winter, while the blanket's design ensure maximum comfort and uninhibited movement. It features our most advanced ergonomic blanket technology yet: a Wither Relief Channel with strategically placed padding to lift the blanket up and off the withers to reduce pressure on sensitive spinal areas. This decreases the risk of developing sores from friction or tissue damage from restricted blood flow. Not only will the channel prevent the blanket from pulling down on your horse's withers when he lowers his head, but a grazing gusset at the neck lets him to do so more comfortably. The specialized, curved SmartContour cutout at the front of the blanket also allows for increased range of motion, and the front leg gussets are placed higher up and farther forward to match the true movement of your horse's leg swing. The back leg gussets are ergonomically constructed too so your horse's hind end can move more freely. Two low-cross surcingles and nylon/elastic leg straps keep the blanket securely in place without being restricting. Finally, an extended tail flap with gusset gives more protection from the elements and prevents rubs.

Expected to love, but disappointed instead
I was expecting to love this blanket, based on my experience with multiple SmartPak Ultimate blankets of same size. This one had the same high-quality materials* and construction as those. In particular, the withers padding and the three tabs to hold the folded-back neck were quite nice. But unfortunately those were the only positives.
The blanket fit like it was designed for an entirely different animal:
- the special padding that was intended to protect his withers was too far up his neck
- the fit at his lower neck/chest was much too tight even on loosest hole
- the blanket overall was much too long (very apparent in the hind end)
- the belly straps were much too long; couldn't be shortened enough to make it safe for him (prevent him getting a leg stuck when lying down)
All this in a blanket sized exactly the same as his other SmartPak blankets (78) and for a standard-sized Oldenburg... every other blanket brand in 78 has fit his perfectly. In this case, going bigger to fit his chest wouldn't help because of the oversize situation elsewhere, nor would going smaller to fit the back end and barrel. Frustrating and very disappointing overall! I hope they're able to adjust the sizing in a future design because the concept of the withers relief is brilliant.

Amazing ErgoTech Winter Blanket!
The SmartPak Deluxe ErgoTech High Neck Turnout Blanket is perfect in every way. It has outstanding warmth and impressive durability without affecting my horse’s movement. This is the first blanket that I have found that not only has front gussets but hind gussets as well. I want only the best for my horse, Lucky! I want him to feel comfortable and the ergonomic design provides the best fit for Lucky. It is true to size and is made well with a 1200 denier waterproof outer shell. I love the two chest snaps in the front, so much easier than fighting the buckles in the winter with frozen fingers. The high neck keeps shoulders warm and dry. If the high neck is not needed, it folds back easily and attaches to the blanket with hook and loops to make it a standard neck winter blanket.

Very well made turnout blanket!
My senior horse wore this during an ice storm for the first time. It kept her warm and dry for 4 days and even had icicles hanging off the bottom! She is a 16.2h very wide draft cross and the 84 fits her perfect. I love how the surcingles have elastic to provide some give when she lays down. My only complaint is that the puffy high neck section is a little awkward and froze into a big chunk when it got wet.

Good but not great
I wish there was a 3.5 star rating. Here's the good: it shipped fast. Love, love, love the padded wither area. It's what made me choose this blanket over others. My horse hates pressure across his withers and neck and the dual padding keeps the spine of the blanket off that sensitive area. I wish every blanket had that. Love the extended gussets on the
shoulder and at the hip. I like the weight. It doesn't get particularly and consistently cold where we are but it does get damp and cold for short stretches so the 150g is ideal. I've found it hard to find that weight. We had drastic temp drops this week so the blanket went on for two nights. The exterior stayed pristine. Like that the higher neck can be fastened
back as a standard neck. Now for the "needs improvement": the neck sort of collapses while it's in the extended position. I think that might be due to the two types of interior lining that meet in that area. I have a sheet in another brand with an extended neck that does not do that. The fit is okay-ish. I have a very beefy TB with big shoulders and a wide chest, a very round and deep rib cage, and large hindquarters. I bought the 81 after debating since he usually wears an 80. The length is acceptable. Even with the front gussets, this blanket pulls at the point of his shoulder. I can't tighten it or he won't be able to lower his neck comfortably, and it's on nearly the loosest hole on the top chest adjustment. Odd. Finally, after only 2 nights (not worn during the day), the lining ripped in a weird place, between the extended neck and the shoulder. I bought this to replace a 7 yr old blanket that was in near perfect condition but weighed on his withers, so to have a rip occur on the interior so quickly is disappointing. Overall I like the blanket but probably not enough to buy it again.

Great Fit!
Very happy with this blanket. My Trakehner cross is hard to fit, but the gussets and high neck offer a comfortable fit. It has heavy gauge front closure snaps and the hind leg straps are heavy duty. I would recommend it based on quality and fit.

Doesn’t fit
This is a well made blanket that does not fit my horse. It is too tight across the chest and the high neck buckles and does not come up high enough to really provide much neck coverage. Once the weather warms up and I can go down to a lighter weight blanket I will be selling this one.
I’m disappointed, I have purchased other products from Smart pack and loved them.

We love it.
This is the best blanket I have purchased for my mare, She is 19, Had EPM & always gave a mean face when putting blankets on, This one, She actually loves, We call it her hoodie. I love the high neck, Takes pressure off her withers & spine, She is comfortable & stays toasty warm. She will lay down & snuggle in her blanket. Hay & dirt brush right off, She will give us an annoyed face when we take it off. It's her favorite.
