The SmartPak Breakaway Halter is one smart barn staple! It features a leather crown piece designed to break under undue pressure. This leather crown piece is adjustable, along with the chin strap, giving you the ability to create a great fit for your horse. Plus, this halter also offers a heavy nylon webbed noseband and cheek pieces that are durable and available in a variety of colors to suit your personal taste. Additionally, brass plated hardware offers a classic look (silver option will come with silver plated hardware). Finally, the snap closure on the throat latch makes it easy to take it on and off without having to adjust the crown piece every time.

Beautiful and Practical
Absolutely love this halter! I bought the navy horse size for a 16.2 OTTB with a finer head. The horse size is definitely big, I had to put the crown piece all the way to the top of both holes, but it fit perfectly after that. Super adjustable, looks really nice, and it's super light. The nylon pieces aren't bulky. Oh, and it WORKS! My lovely boy got his halter stuck on a hook in the barn aisle, he popped the leather crown piece with only one good pull. Had it taken longer to break I know he would have hurt himself. Will be buying multiple replacement pieces! This is a SAFE and beautiful halter for every day, and nice enough to use at the shows.

I wanted to love it...
I loved the color of this halter, and even though the noseband on the cob was a little big, I liked it a lot. Solid, nice looking breakaway. However I bought it at the end of March and the pretty raspberry color has completely bleached out! The halter lives in a shed row barn under a 12 foot overhang, so it doesn't spend all day on a horse in the sun. The matching lead rope's snap has already frozen shut even though it hardly ever gets wet. For this price I expected a little more use out of a set. Still looking for an affordable breakaway that lasts longer than a few months of light use!

Runs Large
Horse sized much bigger than expected. I have a 17.1h warmblood cross. He always fits into horse sized head gear. This halter just barely works. All buckles are on the smallest holes. Of course it's easy to punch more holes in the leather piece, I was just surprised. Quality is fine for a halter to use around the barn and such, but it's nothing fancy. Works well for leading to turnout, etc.

A little big but nicely made
I bought the "cob" size halter for our rescue yearling thoroughbred stallion...he's a big boy, but the halter was absolutely huge on him. Fortunately it fit our other foster, a 19-year-old QH mare, just fine. The color is vibrant and the halter is well made, just mighty big for what we would have expected. He wears a cob sized fly mask so I made the assumption that the sizing would be similar, but I assumed incorrectly! He'll grow into it eventually I'm sure...

What a great halter!
Super quality and great fit. Runs a bit large. I bought this for an average Quarter Horse. It had enough adjustment to fit handsomely, but ended up on the last holes. But it fits beautifully at that number!

Perfect for Little Old Mare
This is the third SP breakaway halter I have had. I bought this particular one for a little mare who just turned 31 and has no one to take care of her. I thought this pretty blue halter would lift her spirits and it did! She is just stunning and loves it! I really like these halters generally and favor them over other breakaways on the market. They really wear exceptionally well and are good looking.

Truly a safe breakaway halter
The bad news, my mare broke it on the first use. The good news, she broke it after spooking in the cross ties and sitting down. Plus she was not injured.
I bought this because my mare is a bit buddy sour and will sit down in the cross ties when she's spooked. Well on the first use she spooked after the neighbors truck backfired. The halter instantly broke and my mare appeared fine although a bit nervous. I will 100% be purchasing a replacement piece for this halter and continuing to use them for my horses.

Does what it’s designed to do!!
I bought two Of these breakaway halters to attach grazing muzzles to. My mare rubbed hers on the sprinkler head and it broke at the leather strap .... whew

Rubs and too flimsy
I bought this about a month ago, and I was hoping for it to be everything that I wanted: sturdy and comfortable for my horse. But, it was way lighrer and flimsier than I thought, and the leather was so rough that it rubbed my hrose behind her ears.

I purchased 1 of these for each of my 2 horses who love to play halter tag while in the pasture for the day . Their old halters became tattered and shredded . So far so good with these. They look sharp and the fit was great.

Loved this product!
I unfortunately had to exchange it for a smaller size (it was a error on my part not on theirs!) but I was very impressed with the quality of this product and would have one in every color if I could! Just a side note though! The silver colored halter comes with silver hardware not brass which is what I was expecting so I ordered the matching silver lead rope with solid brass clip. It was a bummer to see that they ended up not matching!

Disappointing Quality
I bought this halter a few months ago for my extremely dramatic gelding, who has broken four halters in the span of three months (but they didn't have breakaway crownpeices) so I decided to buy him one of these, in the hopes that if he broke it the leather strap would be easy to replace. But, after two months of owning it, I came to the barn one day to find it laying on my tack box, mangled. Instead of the leather strap breaking, both the clip attatching to the cheek piece and the buckle under the chin had snapped. From what I was told, he had reared when the farrier was trying to do his feet, but instead of what is supposed to break the rest of it did instead. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of this and had expected better.

I bought this halter to move my horses from pasture to pasture and wanted breakaway just incase but didn’t want to spend a lot. This halter is very adjustable, I like the color and it doesn’t feel cheap. I feel it fits true to size.

I ordered this in pony size for my new yearling. It was not large enough so I’m exchanging it, but must say I was extremely impressed with the quality of the material and workmanship. And wow—the tourquise color was beautiful. I returned the small one and have ordered a larger size.

Really nice
I really like this halter. The color is great (I got the bright blue one). The nylon is nice and soft and feels like good quality. The breakaway leather is supple. The snap is really convenient. I got a cob size for my little TB. The throat is a little snugger on him than I'd prefer, but I don't turn him out in it and I liked the color and quality so much that I kept it anyway.

Cute halter
I got this pony halter in purple for my dark bay weanling Oldenburg . Looks great on her. Only problem I have is that the tongue on the buckle is a little loose and I have to manipulate it sometimes to work it. But I would buy it again anyway.

Wore Out In Less Than Two Weeks
Honestly unimpressed with the quality of this halter, the material wore out and became fuzzy in less than two weeks and the leather on top curled very quickly. I’ve had the same Weaver leather breakaway on my gelding for two years and never had any wear at all.

Love this halter!
I've had this for about a year and it's treated me so well! The color stays bright and the hardware is high quality. The breakaway strap is great - haven't broken it yet but I have confidence in it. I never have to worry about my halter being stolen because it's the brightest and reddest one at the barn. My mare stands out with it.
