My horse loves it!
I got this for my stall rest-bound mare to keep her busy. She's terrified of the jolly ball but loves to eat so I thought this might keep her busy. I had to show her how it worked initially but she figured it out quickly. She has really enjoyed pushing it around her stall all day and it's definitely keeping her busy.
I agree with the comment from another not to use "wet" things inside as it'll be really hard to clean but I've been doing treats, dry baby carrots, peppermints and might try a handful of grain too.
I definitely recommend it to keep horses (even those not into toys like mine) busy during stall rest or keep them busy. My mare loves hers!

Great Interactive Treat Toy!
I bought this for my horse, Lucky, when he is in his stall more due to poor winter weather. It is wonderful for winter time boredom and keeps him occupied for hours. He seemed to enjoy getting the treats out of it and finds it very entertaining! It is a very durable toy. My horse has had his for a few years. It's starting to show wear but still works. Since Lucky is food motivated, this toy is a huge hit. It was funny when he first started to figure it out, but after a couple of minutes, he realized how to get the treats out. I use the SmartCookies since they are small and sugar-free and I have found that they are a perfect size. I have also cut up small pieces of carrot to put inside the treat ball.
I have only used the Shires Ball Feeder in Lucky's stall as he is usually pretty occupied outside. I have also brought it to shows. It not only keeps him busy but it also has a way of relaxing him.
Cleaning the outside of the ball is easy. I just use a scrub brush and a hose. The inside takes a little more time. That is why I only put dry treats in it. That way the only thing inside that would need to be cleaned is any shavings or hay that gets in. When I am hosing the outside, I rinse the inside a few times and put it upside down to dry.
I highly recommend the Shires Ball Feeder. It is Lucky approved!

Love this ball
I bought this about a month ago, and my horses love it. I fill it with large hay pellets from Medalist Feed and it is absolutely perfect. They’ll plays with it for hours. It has some scrapes on it, but just superficial - the ball itself is holding up great. My horses are mustangs (2-6 years old) and they aren’t always gentle, so I’m glad it has held up so far!

Durable Product w/Distructo Equine!
I bought this 6 months ago and am just now having to replace it. Mr. Distructo, aka Dakota, is very hard on things and they usually don't last long. This product however stood up to his hurling it (kicking) across his 31' stall. I'm so impressed by it, that I'm buying a replacement for it.

Huge hit!
Gave to a horse who never had any interest in jolly balls-- this has been seeing a ton of use! Easy to clean and seems like it will be unlikely to roll out of a paddock due to its design.

Great for boredom!
I bought this in the hopes that my horse who chews the stall out of boredom would chew less and play more. While I haven’t had the ball feeder for very long, Lily really enjoys the challenge of getting her dinner out of it.

To be honest, my friend peer pressured me into buying this. I finally caved, and have no regrets. It took him an hour to figure it out but now he plays with it all day long. I fill it with alfalfa pellets.

These are great!
I have used this in stalls and outside, for so many reasons and so many horses. I use Blue Seal hay stretcher pellets with this, they fall out easily. Love this product for horses in limited turnout (our mini or layups)

Might be too challenging for some
There is a lip on the inside of the hole which often blocks the treats from coming out. I'm sure some horses whip this thing all around with gusto and get the treats but my horse had a real problem. He could hear the pieces of carrot in there but they never came out so he'd just give up. My solution was to drill another hole in the opposite side of the existing hole. The pieces will come out easier this way. It's still a challenge for him. The carrots don't pour out. but they do pop out every now and then so he doesn't get discouraged and lose interest in it.

I bought these for my horses for toys on rainy days when stuck inside to keep busy! Now I just add a little treats everyday they even will go for the ball before even there grain! And all treats fit! I try getting the low sugar treats so not getting a lot of sugar everyday. They really love it! I have a pony that is a big head bobber in his stall when wants to get out or stressed he just gets very fussy and this has been so great for him he will play with that ball for hours even after empty keeps him happy! My mare when playing with hers does her own stretches while playing with hers! I’ve had both balls for over 3 years now and other than a few scratches from being bumped around not one dent very durable! I would definitely recommend for boredom busters or just even a fun toy! Great price too! And fun colors!

Great toy - except for size
This is a fantastic toy! Our 2 year old colt LOVES to roll this and get his hay cubes out of it. BUT ... I wish they would make it about 2” bigger (13” diameter) so it didn’t fit under panels and roll out of the pen or into other horses paddocks. Please consider this. Thanks
