Try Again
This is the 2nd year in a row that I bought Shires NEW fly mask design and the 2nd year I returned it because their regular design is the best for my boy. I bought this one because it specifically said it was designed to keep it off the face (fly masks make my boy's forehead itch). The design did not stay off his forehead any more than the regular Shire mask and it had lots of extra fleece that was going to make him hot.

Lovely fly mask except for the ears
I bought this about 2 months ago, and my guy has only gotten it off once but it was because the downpour made it so heavy it just kind of slipped off. My only complaint is the ears, they rip easily because they’re like a fabric that nylons would be made of. Other than that it sits off his eyes and he seems comfortable in it!

Great fly mask
This purchase was for his back up mask. I love this style with only one very secure strap. This is a great fly mask all around. Fly season has been awful this year.

My Favorite Fly Mask!
Hallelujah I found the one! I used to be an avid Crusader fly mask customer, but my mare kept getting them off somehow and she was the first horse that I wasn't crazy about how that mask fit her face. I tried a couple of the lycra masks but again was not super impressed by how they seemed to rub around her eyes and the mesh darts didn't do anything to keep it away from her eyes. After reading the reviews on this mask, I broke down and spent a little more on it than what I have on other masks in the past knowing that I have had good luck with other Shires products and I am thrilled that I did! It fits beautifully on my mare's face, I love the breathable materials on the cheeks and ears, the easy-to-use and large single tab closure, the inner fleece lining across the forehead is a nice touch, but above all I love the fine mesh that is easy to see through but seems very durable (I haven't had it long, but my mare tends not to be too destructive so I imagine this will last). I also love the UV protection this mask offers in combination with SmartPak's Deluxe Fly sheet for my black mare - and the colors match! My only complaint is that it does not have a hole for the forelock but I will happily go without for all of the good qualities that this mask has. Overall I am really happy with this purchase and will continue buying Shires brand masks going forward.

Attractive fly mask for horses
I gave this fly mask a good review is that it looks great and the size was accurate for my horse. I did find that my horse was able to get it off without me removing it; this is my litmus test to determining a product. I felt the materials were well put together and it is attractive.

easy to put on
This fly mask is great! I love shires but this one especially with the one large strap for closure. Much easier to put on.

Excellent fly mask
100% recommend. I needed a new style of mask for my sweet itch mare when our usual one was discontinued from a different brand. Some ladies in my barn have other styles of Shires mask, I thought I would give this one a try for being a different color. I wasn't sure I would like it at first but now I have bought several to restock the wardrobe. Cob size fits my horse head size girl just right, regular horse size was ENORMOUS, too big even for my big head gelding. This mask features stretch elastic binding for the neck end of the mask and regular binding on the nose end; this is great for us, it ensures a snug bug free fit. Single velcro closure with super sticky velcro, my girl rolls in dirt and rubs on stuff, that strap never shifts or peels off. The ears are weird, they are huge and made of stretchy material like ladies tights are made of. So far she has only gotten 1 hole in 1 ear of 1 mask, I think she rubbed on a fence board and snagged the whole side of the mask as the binding ripped too. She rubs on stuff a lot, she is an excellent durability tester. So far this style is holding up to her constant testing. I hand wash these to keep their shape, the brow lift fleece browband thing and darts in the black material are perfect for keeping her loooong eyelashes from poking through and annoying her, I don't want them misshapen in my washing machine.

Well made and easy to put on
I was looking for a pony sized mask that gave sufficient room for my horses' eyes. I was impressed with the quality of materials and ease of putting it on. Prepare your horse for the velcro noise and it can be quite loud and suprising. when removing it for the first time. I'm pleased with the fit and would buy again.

Durable
I purchased this mask to see if it could hold up on my mare, she destroys fly masks for fun. I have had this mask for a month and so far so good, she can not get it off and it is holding up well to her rubbing it on everything. This is her 4th mask this season and I really think it will go the distance.

Great Breathable and Not Itchy
My horse can be hard on his fly masks and always finds them itchy (which is how much of the destruction happens) but with this mask, although the material is light and seems delicate it has held up to all his mayhem, while leaving him not sweating or scratching constantly.
There isn't much in the descriptions to describe differences between this mask and the other shires but this one the material is much more breathable (and soft) while still holding up just as well. My horse sweat and got itchy in the other enough to scratch himself until he ripped it within a few weeks but this mask dries fast and stays comfortable for him. He doesn't try to remove it and even after dunking his whole face in the water it's dry fast. His pasturemates have the other version and theirs take significantly longer to dry out. I'd compare this material to wicking athletic wear.
