RJ Classics Monterey Xtreme Soft Shell Show Coat is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love This Coat SO Much This coat is awesome, it is so stretchy and light, but maintains the look of a traditional coat (just better fitting and flattering). I have a 0 so I pretty small and this coat is so flattering for a thin, athletic build. However, I let my friend who is about one size bigger than me borrow it because she fell off schooling into the only puddle on the whole show grounds, and it stretched enough and looked fine on her. I too have muscular arms and a small waist and it fits beautifully, since it is so stretchy it doesn't look bad on my arms. The waist is perfect because it is a little big, but I'd rather that than the buttons looking strained, and tying your number around your waist fixes that anyway. Definitely have a close-fitting show shirt because if the sleeves are too baggy it looks kind of funny under the coat.I get compliments every time that I wear this coat, I definitely recommend it.I am a 2 in many other show coats because of my shoulders, but the waist is always too big. Here the shoulders stretch and a 0 looked better overall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feels amazing on! I just got this jacket and showed in it, yesterday. It is so light weight, comfortable, breathable, and STRETCHY! Nothing could possibly be more comfortable. I don't think I can ever put on a wool jacket, again. So worth every penny. I wish it came in a long, but the regular sleeve length was perfect (which is usually an issue for me), just not quite as long in the tail as I would like. Can't wait to be able to put it in the washer and show in it again next week! My dry cleaner sure is going to miss me!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! I bought three of these expensive jackets, excepting to use them for this show season. Well... After only ONE washing ALL of the buttons fell off and the fabric faded! After washing the first coat myself, I decided to try taking them to the Dry Cleaners. After picking up the coats they once again were faded and the fabric was splotchy. Do not waste $400 on these coats!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from comparison shopping Over a 2 week period, I tried three GP coats (TechLite Classic Sport, TL Quinn, and, Classic Sport Washable) and 2 of the RJ Xtreme coats: the Washington Xtreme, and the Monterey Xtreme. The major differences for me between brands were the basic fit and finishing details. RJ wins in both categories. Some things I noticed about the GP coats (on me, anyway) were that they flared out over my hips a little too much, were a little bit baggy in the waist for me, and the back vents weren't quite high enough (maybe why the waist was baggy). I also noticed a difference in the fabric when I had the GP and RJ coats side by side: the TechLite fabric of the GP coats was a little shiny. I didn't like it at all once I noticed it. Between the Washington and Monterey coats, I prefer the 4 button fit to the 3 button (Washington has 4, Monterey has 3). The Monterey is a more classic hunt coat look. The Monterey was a little big in the hips for me, but otherwise a very nice hunt coat. I just loved the Washington so much I kept it, but try the Monterey if you are in the market for a soft shell coat. It has a great fit, classic look, and the fabric is a lovely, soft lightweight, breathable fabric that is just stretchy enough to give and makes the fit perfect. For sizing information, I wear a 4-6 in street clothes and the 6 in this coat fit me perfectly. I have average proportions. I wore a 12 in the GP coats. I am so glad I got to compare the RJ and GP coats side by side. I would definitely recommend this coat if you want a traditional looking soft shell coat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but could be better First... I bought this coat, I didn't receive it from a sponsor. It is nice, but I believe that over the next couple of years this coat style will become the norm, so it will be vastly improved upon. Pros: Nice styling, amazing stretchy fabric; zipper pockets are very cool. Cons: no structure. It needs some shoulder padding to look like a "real" dressage coat. The back venting is not high enough, so it lays a little strangely in the saddle. And this isn't a pro or con, just a preference: I wish the buttons were silver metal instead of black plastic.I would recommend this coat to anyone who has trouble with more traditional coats ... i.e. bunching in the back with the traditional coats. I can't speak to altering this coat but it might be challenging due to to zippers on the wrist areas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellant Show Coat Like the other reviewer, I have had difficulty fitting a muscular back and arms yet still having a small waist. This coat blew my mind that I could have full range of motion of my arms. Very light weight and extremely comfortable you feel like you aren't wearing a hunt coat. It looks absolutely stunning on and I have had numerous compliments already. Planning on buying the 4 button black coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! I have very muscular shoulders, yet a small waist and thin stomach, so finding coats that gave me shape yet the room to release for my shoulders was always a problem. In this coat I have room to give my horse the release he needs, and I didn't have to sacrifice my style for comfort! This coat closely resembles the popular Animo coat, and I've been asked a few times it happens to be. I really recommend this coat, especially since it can carry over into all three rings!
