The Vari-Layer™ system works by strategically placing additional layers of up to 450g of thermobonded fiberfill where your horse needs it most and reducing bulk where it isn’t necessary, providing maximum warmth with minimum weight. The unique AquaTrans™ barrier technology will keep this blanket both waterproof and breathable even if the tough 1000D outer rips. Your horse’s skin and coat will love the anti-static, antibacterial, and shine-enhancing lining.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Kayla from Disappointed in Quality I decided to order this blanket in a medium weight for my gelding. Not even a month into him wearing it the Velcro on the front of the blanket, the binding under the tail flap & the inner liner of the neck cover has ripped exposing the fill. The exterior of the blanket has held up well for what it’s worth, but there are major flaws with the integrity of the fabric/stitching on the underside. I’ve had good luck with other Horseware blankets over the years, but the quality of this particular blanket is very disappointing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Burly from I love Horseware but... I bought this new last year and used it on one horse over the winter who is not playful or rough on blankets. The stitching at the Velcro at the front clasp has failed just with normal use. I stupidly repaired it before thinking to take photos, so the photos attached here are after my mediocre stitch job. I didn't have matching thread so you can see the lighter pink thread is mine. I fear it will need constant monitoring/repair and the lining isn't meant to be stitched into again and again so I am sure it will rip sooner rather than later. I expect more from Horseware, I know this is a Rhino and not a Rambo so not as durable, but I thought that was for the outside durability (polypropylene vs nylon) of the blanket, not the stitching. Not even making it through one winter (5-6 months) and having stitching fail is unacceptable. On the plus side my horse was dry all winter and the blanket held up great everywhere else.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Anna from Good but ripped after 2 seasons, thin material Overall it’s nice and I’ll likely buy more horsewear of Ireland blankets in future. But was expecting much stronger material- it ripped on the inside after just 2 seasons and a few washings despite being in a laundry bag. Very thin liner material. Also the fill material seems somewhat cheap and thin which I noticed after it ripped and exposed it. Last, it shifts a bit on both my horses - always to the same side.

My TB was always a comfortable temperature- I love the vari-layer because it's plenty warm on the coldest days, but the blanket isn't as heavy and fluffy and still fits on the blanket rack.

It is a gorgeous well-made blanket and fits my quarter horse perfectly - no doubt he will stay toasty warm this winter! Would 1000 % buy this blanket again from SmartPak. My horse, Lucky, is not hard on blankets but it is assuring to know that Rhino Plus with Vari-Layer also comes with Horseware's three-year waterproof guarantee. The front closure works great for my chunky QH. The "V' closure is easy to use with snaps versus buckles and allows for freedom of movement. Very few blankets have 3 surcingles. Along with the tail cord, the 3 surcingles assist in keeping the blanket in the proper position. The vari-layer allows for use of a Horseware Liner for layering. I bought the medium weight. I feel that gives several options to add liners of different weights. Most blankets do not include the neck cover in the price. This one does! This is Lucky's second winter with this blanket. I have machine-washed, several times, with blanket wash. It has held its waterproofing, color, and durability. I have never been disappointed by Horseware of Ireland!
