Great concept, small browband
Bought a year ago, cob size, holds up well. Use it on 3 horses. Browband was too small, bottom nose band is a bit short. Horses go well in it though. I'm afraid a horse size will be too long in cheeks, but am going to order a second because I really like the concept.

Problem with fit, no solution
I loved the idea of this bridle. It really does help with those things it claims to. However, sadly, I had two problems: fit, and the stiffness of the leather. It fit my Haflinger perfectly, EXCEPT the noseband. I could not even get it to the first hole. Way too short. I reached out to Horsewares Ireland/Micklem, no response, and although SmartPak tried to help me, they were not able to assist. I suppose you could get a leather worker to make a strap the size you needed, if necessary. My Haffie is between sizes. Too small for a Cob (in this bridle) and the horse size would be too large. Also, the leather is super stiff. Will take a long time to break in, get soft. I returned it and am going with a Stubben Freedom Bridle which is a really good bridle that stays away from facial pressure points. It also sits back, away from the eye, which is a really cool new thing. I can also remove the flash, which I don't want. If you have a "normal-sized" horse, the Micklem would be fine, just be prepared for the leather to be stiff.

Sooo hard to fit
While the cheeks are on the smallest size I had to buy regular flash nose bands in order to bring the bit and nose and in correct position. The strap to take the place of throat latch is too short. Punched a hole to extend and still too small. Maybe I’ll take it to a shoe repair place and see if they can help me. I’m determined to try and make this work because I like the idea behind the design.

Amazing bridle, a few little issues
There are lots of people at my barn who have these bridles and love them, I did some research and the design is incredibly well thought out, so I decided to go ahead and buy one for my sensitive ottb mare who had been having a hard time accepting contact. It is really pretty and my mare goes way better in it, she seems happier, softens easier, and doesn't go all racehorse on me as much. So in that aspect I am very happy. However, mine came with quite a few little cosmetic issues, nothing that affects functionality, but I am still slightly upset considering how much I paid. All in all, this is a really good bridle and I highly recommend it.

Very well made beautifully constructed
I have had several Micklem bridles and are still in use for over fiver years. They look just as good as they did when first purchased. The competition bridle takes it to a new level with the additional fancy stitching. Highly recommend these bridles by Rambo.

Too stiff
I love my regular competition micklem bridle but the fancy stitched one was too stiff; maybe because of all the extra padding?

Okay for jumping. Awful for dressage.
I bought this bridle in the fall of 2017. At first I noticed no change in my horse but after a while, she started to dislike the bridle very much and would toss her head or just stop and back up from discomfort. Some of my close friends had the same result with their usually forward and excepting dressage horses. A few others noted this in their hunter horses. But for other horses that toss their head of fight oher bridles, the micklem worked amazingly. So just a fair warning, if your horse is not bad in the regular snaffle this bridle may not be for you.

Not for us
I purchased this product about a month ago and tried it a few times on my horse. The idea of a more humane, comfortable bridle was very appealing to me. I have an OTTB who is well schooled but does not love to be on the bit and stay in self carriage, I thought perhaps the micklem would help.
The quality of the leather is fine, but not what I’d expect from a bridle with a $200+ price tag. I dislike rubber reins, but the ones that came with it were fine. The way the bridle is packaged (zip tied flat to a piece of cardboard) makes it very difficult to get it to fit around a nose because the nose piece just wants to be flat. I ordered a large horse size for my 17.2hh gelding who normally wears a warmblood size bridle. I had a very difficult time getting it to fit. He has a very wide jaw and narrow nose on a long face. I could not get the nose and to be high enough and have the bit sit in the right place (bit straps too short). After messing around with the fit for several days and riding in it when the fit was right my horse decided he hated it.
Luckily smartpak has an excellent return policy and it will be going back. I’m glad we tried this bridle but it was no miracle solution for us.
