Why We Love This

The Piper Trainer’s Coat is perfect for wearing ringside or riding, as this coat features a water-resistant, tear-resistant, ripstop breathable outer with a 3M Thinsulate® layer to keep you warm without bulk. Designed for life at the barn, the two rear gussets unzip to reveal a protective lining so you don’t have to choose between mobility or warmth. Just unzip them for more room while you’re riding and let the extra fabric keep you protected from the cold. Plus, it has a sturdy, two-way zipper that gives you even more freedom of movement and you can easily snap closed the lower portion to keep your legs protected when you’re not riding. Not to mention, it also has ribbed cuffs with tabs, a cozy inside collar and a removable hood to help keep the cold out. Additionally, this jacket has all of the pockets you’ll ever need – some zipped, some cargo, complete with a zipper. The printed lining is the perfect fun finish for a seriously unbelievable jacket.

Imported.

Piper Trainer's Coat by SmartPak is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 74.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Piper Trainer's Coat-First Impressions I just got this coat, and can't wait to wear it. I bought a large as I am 38" in the bust and wanted to make sure I could layer under if need be. There is plenty of room for layering, it's not too bulky, and my zipper works fine as long as I have both zippers matched up just right. There was concerns from others about the sleeves. The sleeves can be short-but that is due to the sleeve construction. If you push the sleeves up under the armpits, it feels 'right', but you get massive room in the shoulder, and the sleeves become super short.. If you adjust the fit of the coat the sleeve length is just fine...just be careful when raising arms above your head.. So, it really is weird sleeve construction (Also, the shoulder seam is not at the shoulder joint, but about an inch or so below). Other concerns are about 'popping threads'.. This is a "puffer" style coat, so with all the riding/barn activity, I am expecting a thread or two to pop at some point..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice coat but runs very small I bought this about a month ago and have used it several times. It is light-weight but warm. Today it was 21 degrees and I felt fine with the coat. However, I bought a Large thinking I would be able to wear a heavy sweater under it. Hmmm. I'm 5'4, 120 pounds. This "Large" is tight on me. It fits okay, but there's not much wiggle room. I got the coat on sale, so I'm happy, but if I had paid even close to the normal price, I would have returned it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I wanted! This coat is exactly what I was looking for. Long & warm for those cold horse shows!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Missing parts in description... I bought this because the description says it has lots of pockets, some zip, some cargo! Ummmm.....2 pockets with snaps and 2 that you would only put your hands in. Very misleading. Quality is ok. Definitely see the snaps on the front tearing thru the fabric with wear. I bought to walk my dogs in the winter and need lots of pockets for keys, phone, etc. CHANGE YOUR DESCRIPTION TO FIT THE COAT.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable Coat - Bad Stitching Had this coat for about 2 months now. Very warm without being bulky. Had to go up one size or sleeves would be too short. Biggest complaint is the stitching on this coat. Had several places that had seam rip or come apart from normal wear. If I had paid full price for this coat (purchased on sale) I would have returned or exchanged it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT I got it today for my birthday and am in love. Its warm without being bulky and is so comfortable and just fun to wear. Only downside is that the sleeves are a little short but I still love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So warm I love this coat and it seems like it will be easy to wash. I wish I ordered one as my regular winter coat too! It keeps me warm while I am getting my horse ready. I have not had to ride in it yet, but the zippers on the back are easy to reach will be great for really cold days!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cute, warm Just got this jacket. Super cute, great fit, keeps me warm but the zipper is horrible! I just took it off and put on another jacket because I couldn’t get the zipper to work.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Super warm coat My riding students bought this coat for me as a Christmas gift last year. The coat is SUPER warm, great length, and rides well. I LOVE the coat for those reasons, however, the seams split in random places like the left elbow, the right cuff fell off, the pocket seam started to unravel and the pocket hangs open. The seams gave way just in regular use such as bending my elbow, putting my arm through the sleeve to put the coat on and the cuff came out with my hand, the pocket seam was the last to unravel from my hands being in the pockets I guess. And lastly, after some use the zipper can be sticky to start. Most of this happened within the first two weeks of wear. This coat would be AMAZING if not for those few issues and even with them, I patched the coat as best I could and wore it all winter as it is super warm and great to ride in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and Lightweight I have been looking for a long winter coat comfortable enough to ride in and believe I have found it! I haven't ridden in it yet but I have walked the dogs in the wet and cold mornings with it and it is very nice. I'm short so it covers me to below my calves so I am well protected. Though the coat is long, it doesn't restrict my walking even with the bottom snaps closed. The coat is so lightweight that I thought I received an empty box when I got it! I think this will be the tool I need to keep my pony exercised this winter.
