Piper Evolution Mid-rise Breeches by SmartPak - Knee Patch is rated

Okay breeches but nothing like the original Pipers
I’ve been buying Pipers in the original low rise style for years now and they’ve always worked perfectly for me. I was surprised at how well these fit given that they are medium rise; my attempts to do medium rise before when the only option was on the knits didn’t work out. However, this new fabric is so so terrible. It’s thinner than the original fabric which is fine with me but it feels cheap on the outside because of the spill resistance ans it’s slippery too. It does seem to repel more ordinary dust and dirt than usual but is worse for mud etc so it ends up averaging out to the same in terms of stain repelling compared to the originals. My biggest complaint is that the inside actually has a rough texture?? Very bizarre choice for a fabric that you know is going to give someone friction due to the nature of the intended use. I had anticipated getting rubs on my knees or shins because these do fit me a little looser in the leg but miraculously didn’t, however they have rubbed into my upper thigh which might be worse. I am hoping a few more washes will fix things because they stopped making the original pipers so if I want to stick with the brand that I’ve been happy with for 7+ years, I am forced to buy the evolutions or give the more expensive options a try. Don’t understand why they ruined a perfectly good option and then discontinued it. Smartpak, please please bring the original pipers back. These are not a comparable product.
