We're bringing you this product at the lowest price allowed by the manufacturer so you won't find it cheaper anywhere else. This also means we can't apply any further discounts or promotions.

As riders and online shoppers, we know it can be tough to buy a new bridle or pair of boots without trying them on. That's why we moved the fitting room to your living room (or barn)! From breeches to blankets, if you or your horse can try it on, you can return it, free! Just use the pre-paid return label included in your order within 60 days from the purchase date. And of course, please make sure the item is in like-new condition with original packaging (we said 'fitting room', not 'war room'!).

Why We Love This

The Passier Compact Dressage Saddle is the perfect saddle for horses with a short back- and for their riders! Until now, riders of compact horses always had to select a small seat size to avoid saddle pressure on the horse's loins.  However, such a small seat area was often problematic for the rider.  Luckily, the era of compromise has ended  thanks to Passier's break-through innovation in the Compact Dressage Saddle.  This saddle combines a short contact surface for the horse with a significantly larger and more comfortable seat for the rider.  Passier products are handmade in Germany since 1867.

Favorite Features

  • The seat and knee inserts are made from Jupa leather, an extremely soft processed and non-slip cow hide, providing especially comfortable seating
  • PS saddle tree is made from wood and leather with several bamboo strips to achieve a high degree of flexibility
  • Comes with a 5 year guarantee on the tree from any defects
  • Freedom panels allow for optimized wither clearance and is suited for horses with wide or particularly sensitive withers
  • New foam inserts ensure an extremely soft, smooth contact area with the horse's back and an optimum distribution of the rider's weight
  • Deep seat
  • Thick thigh supports
  • W-girth arrangement ensures that the saddle remains firmly in place, taking pressure off the horse's shoulder at the front and allowing the back strap to exert just the right amount of pressure in precisely the area where the greatest hold is required

Passier Compact Dressage Saddle is rated 4.6667 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crushed dreams.... I got this saddle in as a test ride. I have a 15.3 Polish Arab. The Arab part is why I needed the compact saddle. However he has shark fin withers. Kind of an odd build for an Arab, but I go with it! Any whoo...on a sharp high withered horse this saddle was too high in the front, and low in the back, thus putting me in a chair position. I then like a girl in a bad relationship tried to fix it by using shims. Shims fixed the chair position and the high low part, but I noticed a bridge in the sweat marks after my ride. So my dream saddle and I are now broken up. I would only suggest this saddle for someone who has a horse with medium to low withers and a flat back, or flat-ish. Besides that the saddle was exactly as advertised and the quality is equal to that of most custom $5000+ saddles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great experience all the way around I test road the Passier Compact from Smartpak on my 14.3 paint. She moved so much better and I had enough seat under me to be comfortable. Smart pak was awesome about the trial period. definitely a buy after I save up my pennies

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deep & Lovely This is a beautiful, classic looking saddle that oozes quality. I feel like this saddle would last for forever if properly taken care of. The leather is supple, soft, and even if brand new I doubt it takes any time at all to get that broken in feel. The compact is a VERY deep saddle with huge thigh blocks (as described). I have a very young, silly (read: spooky whirlaway) horse, and I felt absolutely solid in this saddle. If you are looking for security or have a big moving horse or just love a deep saddle, this is going to be fabuous for you. BUT, if you do not want to feel 'trapped' in the saddle, this one is not for you.About the compact, shorter panels thing -- My mare is short backed, so I wanted to try it, but I did not see any noticeable difference in how she went. So whether it's a marketing gimmick or truly makes a difference, I suppose it probably depends on the horse and how sensitive they/you are. Also, I should note that my horse has just started training, so I am obviously not doing anything complex. The shorter panels might be more beneficial/noticeable at those levels. Particularly since the horse needs to be able to engage the hind end more and therefore have greater freedom in the lumbar/SI region to do that.I did also try this saddle on another horse I rode, and he loved it. I'm not sure whether it's the cut back pommel or what, but he moved the best I've felt in months. I was very well pleased with the significant improvement in his lateral work.My only wish is that this saddle were a little easier on the budget. At $3,750 with tax, I'm going to try a few others and see whether I can justify the cost.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Passier Test Ride Saddle Great program! The saddle I received was brand new to test ride. Very nice that you don't have to wrap the leathers, etc. Unfortunately, it was a medium and didn't fit my wide withered Morgan. It fit me well-I liked it, but it has to fit the horse as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sensitive short backed horse Tried many saddles, different brands to find the one my stallion liked the best. This saddle gives him the shoulder freedom as well as being comfortable on his short back. Night and day difference from day one. LOVE IT!!! Oh and as a bonus, its comfortable for me as well.
