Just what I've been looking for!
Every detail was considered in the design of this jacket. I haven't worn it in heavy rain yet, but from what I've read, it should keep me dry. It does run large, but I wanted something that would fit over my heavy winter coat, and this did the trick. I am even getting one for my husband to wear for spring skiing!

Really like this rain jacket!
I like everything about it except it runs large. I usually would order XL but ordered a Large. It's a man's large and was huge on me, arms too long. So I have sent it back to exchange for a Medium. I think this will fit much better and look forward to years of use...it looked very well made and I like the 2way zippers to ride in. Great pockets! Now if they would just make a light weight vest with big pockets and 2 way zippers, I would be happy the rest of my lifeI

Wonderful jacket, but didn't fit me
I really, really wanted to keep this jacket once it arrived. It had every feature in a rain jacket I was looking for, and looked to be great quality. But even the XS was seriously oversized for me. Sure, I'm a petite woman, but I was surprised the XS was so big. The shoulders, body, and sleeves were all too big, and the waist when cinched still hung a good 3" below my waist. Even with extra layers underneath I just couldn't make it work. Thank goodness SmartPak has such a great return policy! If this fits you, buy it - I'm sure you'll love it.

A Quality Essential
As a dedicated recreational trail rider, good rain gear is a must for enjoyable rides. Especially when we are out for several hours. This parka is made for us. WATERPROOF & BREATHABLE material, zippered pockets, velcro sleeve closures, the back unsnaps to cover the cantle to prevent the rain dripping down your backside; Quality Workmanship throughout. I ride English and wear half-chaps, so the parka length gives me very good coverage w/o a lot of bulk. I especially like the hood which really does fit over my helmet and has elastic drawstrings to secure it that don't get in the way when not in use. I received this some weeks ago, but waited until we went on a 4-day trail adventure in order to be able to give an honest review, At that time of year (Late May - early June) in upstate NY, the weather can change very suddenly, and boy did it! We encountered Rain, Wind & Hail along with Sunshine; so the "packabiltiy" of this parka is Really Nice. My only slight peeve is that in order to ride comfortably and securely when the parka is in "pack mode", I had to make a cross-chest tie to secure the shoulder straps. I am definitely a horsewoman on a budget, so I was only able to buy this since it had a very significant discount at the time and of course free shipping (I'm a SmartPaker) helps too. I expect to enjoy years of use with it. It is More than Worth every Penny!

update on my prior review
I rode about 10 miles in this jacket since writing my review. I didn't think I'd ever use the pack feature and actually thought it sort of dumb. Guess what. I like that feature. It folds into the pack really easily (not like a stuff sack) and I can do it when mounted. It is a bit hot on the back, depending on the weather. But, even at a trot it didn't bounce at all and I pretty much forgot it was there. I will need to shorten the straps a little but that is easy. So, I am liking this jacket more all the time and changed the stars to 5. With a vest under it that I use to carry stuff, it wasn't all that large. (though still a bit large) And it is super comfortable.

neat jacket-would be 5 stars if a little smaller
I like everything about this jacket except that it is too big. I am 110'lbs, 5'3" and XS is still big. I am keeping it anyway as it will work well for my purposes. I wanted something waterproof to ride in during warmer weather, that can serve as a jacket when not raining as well. Plus, I wanted it to cover the back of my saddle and down to my chaps. Looks like it will do this as well as any jacket I've found. If I end up in some huge storm, which isn't likely, I'll put rain pants on but for the occasional shower I hope this and chaps will do it and prevent getting a wet seat. (sheepskin is like a sponge) The cuffs on the sleeves are nice as they can velcro quite small, or they can open large for winter style gloves. The hood rolls up, which is fine. It doesn't fit into a collar as such but that is ok. It won't collect water if you don't put it on right away. The fabric seems really sturdy. I can tie the jacket around my waist if I want to. It is not too bulky. I found jackets that looked a lot nicer on me, but this one is a good price and super functional.

Runs large but very comfy!
Here in Maine it tends to be rainy in the fall and spring (which is otherwise the best time to ride!) so I bought this so that I can still enjoy riding during my favorite seasons without getting soaked from the pop-up showers! It is light weight enough to wear even during a summer evening and roomy enough to layer underneath if you want to wear it earlier in the spring or later in the fall. It breaths and moves much better than a traditional rain coat but is still water proof. I love that the hood fits over a helmet because as most equestrians know, a hood is useless on a rainy day if it doesn't! Some other cool features: it has an interior pocket for holding your phone or whatever you don't want to put in saddle bags; it also has draw strings inside to snug it up at the waist while still letting it be more open to cover your legs a bit while mounted. It also has straps so you can take it off and use it like a back pack, a clever idea if you plan to dismount and take a short hike to have a packed lunch somewhere on the trail. It does run big, I wear a 12-14 so I ordered a large but easily could have ordered a medium. I'll keep it because of the layering I plan to do under it but if you are just looking for a rain jacket, size down when you order.
