Warm and very comfortable
Very happy with these boots. Mountain Horse is the brand of tall boot I wear and these are every bit as good as ones I have bought in the past.

Pretty good winter boot
First thing I want to comment on is the warmth. This boot is insulated on the calf and my feet were sweating! Granted it was only about 25F outside and hasn't been cold enough lately to wear them again. Since the calf is so insulated, it's taking me a while to break these in. It took me about 10 minutes to get them on the first time, but after wearing them for a few hours, the second time putting them on was much easier. The ankle hasn't dropped yet, but they are beginning to loosen up. I wasn't sure if the wide calf would be a better fit, but since it wasn't available I wasn't able to try them.

I like them!
I was looking for a tall winter boot that didn't cost $345 but would fit and wear at least 2 winters. I had Mountain Horse winter paddock boots once before and they felt like downhill ski boots and one seemed a bit twisted, I couldn't wait for them to wear out. With Smartpak's return policy I thought these were worth a try. I had tried a pair of Ovations and the right one bent at the ankle and put a sore on my ankle the first morning. These look designed to stay supportive at the ankle and they have been. Also, they seem quite warm.

Good concepts but not my cup of tea
I had to return as the 8 was hurting my heels and digging in terribly. I am a 39 or 8.5. I would have gotten a 9 but they were sold out. Zipper was difficult. A bit to much forward incline so felt like I was walking in ski boots. I returned because the fit was too small as someone who normally buys 39's as an 8.5 foot.

Great boot, but smaller calf
I had to buy new ones as my older ones (same brand) had finally died after four years! Mountain Horse has since changed their design a bit. For the most part, still pretty great HOWEVER the calf is definitely tighter in this model than it used to be. To be fair I have relatively wide calfs for my 7.5 foot. I can still squeeze in them and they do have an elastic stretch panel that is slowly stretching more the more I wear them. Overall a great buy, just wish they had a wider calf.

Tall and comfortable
I'm on my second pair and was very happy with them, however, I've noticed that the faux leather is hard on my saddle leather. I'm going to have to find something else. I ride 3-4 times a week in the winter, and wear for about 4-5 months a year.

Keep my feet warm!!
I love these boots, did not even need toe warmers. I was worried that they would be too stiff to keep my leg in correct position, or have enough flexibility, but they were great! As usual with tall boots, i did have to wear heal lifts because i have big feet and short calves.

Boot was too tall
Unfortunately, I had to return the boots. I am 5'7" so I am not sure why the boots were too tall for me. They cut me off at the back of the knees when I bent my legs and was almost painful. Also, I had a very difficult time zipping up the boot past my ankles. Too bad because they are good looking boots.

Great boots but don't last longer than a season
I really like these boots, but the do not last more than one season with heavy use. I ride in them and do barn chores in them which includes a lot of mud and water. They lose waterproofing after about 60 days; the area where the large toe joint is usually rips. the zipper usually blows out most of the way through winter which is easy enough to repair but still a pain. They are nice to ride in and they are warm though. Just plan to buy a new pair every year if you're using them every day.

Very nice, But not right for me.
These boots are warm and are very waterproof, But they aren't comfortable for me. Part of that reason is that I have an extremely skinny leg and the boots are to big in the shaft, also there is no bend in the ankle, which drives me insane. Basically these just aren't the right boots for me, But I would recommend these to anybody that want a reliable winter boot.

Not very durable
I really liked these boots initially, but they began to crack and fall apart just a couple months after purchase.

LOVE LOVE LOVE
I absolutely love these boots. They are warm, comfortable, have give, and aren't overly bulky for a winter boot. I was able to break them in easily, I think it took 1 ride. They fit around my calf without any problems and I'll definitely be able to put winter riding pants on with them. These are a must have, and I know they'll last as I have other Mountain Horse boots that are indestructible!

TOASY WARM and fits larger calf
These are some WARM WARM boots. They were no bother to brake in or walk around a lot at barn. They fit my larger calf so I am super happy.

Holding up perfectly!
I am loving these boots! My feet have been warm this winter like never before. There's enough room for my thicker winter breeches and my big winter socks, without being too snug. Even after months of wearing them almost daily, they look great (after I cleaned them off of course).

These boots really keep my feet warm. I have only had them two weeks so I don't know how durable they are.

kept my feet very warm!
I bought these a few weeks ago after having to return another makers boot because the heel seam on teh boot ripped. These are made much better and more durable. Comfortable enough to walk around the barn and out to the paddocks and very comfortable riding.

comfortable and warm
I tried this boot as well as MH Ice Rider and Ariat Bromont. Preferred the active rider and was tallest of the 3. Half sizes would be nice. Foot size was just a little big on me.

Keeps your toes warm!
I wore these for the first time the other day when it was in the low 20s. They didn't require any breaking in and kept my toes warm while I rode multiple horses. I usually wear an 8 or 8.5 in ariats, but I ordered a 9 so I could wear thick socks as it gets colder and it was the right decision. So if you are in between sizes I would say definitely order up a size. I originally ordered the regular calf, but exchanged it for the wide which is perfect for layering or using with winter/polar fleece breeches. (For comparison I usually wear a full or wide tall boot)
I would recommend this as a winter riding boot. Keeps you warm without too much bulk or tread like some winter boot options.

Bulky boot
I bought these boots for winter riding. Unfortunately these boots were wide through the foot and bulky and heavy. I could not bend my foot. They were a little short but I am tall. They would take a long time to break in.

As clunky as moon boots
I had high hopes for these boots even though my prior experiences with Mountain Horse products have not been good. I've found their items to be clunky and oversized. I thought these might be different as they are called "active" winter boots. I couldn't imagine walking around in them all day let alone fitting them into an English stirrup. Thank goodness for SmartPak's free shipping return policy on sized items!

Warm and High Quality
Greater for riders with wide calves! I normally wear an 8 1/2 in shoes and ordered a 9 thinking that would be good for thick socks. They fit perfectly. I also have a wide calf (about 17.5 inches in diameter) and the wide calf fit me very well. I am on the short side (5'4") so they were a bit tall for me, but broken down fairly quickly. The break in process is no different than any other tall boots in my opinion - but maybe I'm just used to it from being short limb-ed with wide calves. They simply require break-in time. Much less bulky than MH's other boots, comfortable to walk, ride, and do chores in. Very happy with my purchase! Have only had them a month, so can't speak to the durability as much - will update in winter!

Only for LONG legs
I bought these boots to replace a VERY old pair of Mountain Horse Winter boots (meaning this brand lasts a LONG time). Loved the boot, however I was concerned it would take too long to break them in, as the shaft is so tall it was literally biting into the back of my knee. I am 5'9" with long legs, but these boots were too tall for me. I ordered them in wide calf....and they are quite wide, wider than what I would need.

they get the job done
These boots are ok. I bought a 9, which fits well - I'm usually a 9.5. They are pretty clunky and stiff, and the calves are definitely on the big side. However, I wanted something waterproof that I could ride in if needed, and these do the trick so far.

Mountain Horse Active boots, so far I love them!
After much consideration and reading reviews and asking other riders, I purchased the Mountain Horse Active boots. They run bigger. I normally wear a size 7.5 with a wide calf, but wear a 7 with a regular calf. The foot is a little loose in the heel, but there is for thicker socks. They were comfortable from day one and they look really nice. I didn't like the Rimfrost rider. I may change my mind later on, but right now I am very pleased.

Great Boot Overall
I really love these boots! I wish they were a little more waterproof, but they keep my toes very warm. After reading reviews that they ran on the tall side, I didn't think that would matter since I have very long legs. But even for me, the boots rubbed the back of my knees for the first couple days. Once they were completely broken in they were fantastic!

Best winter boot on the market!
It is currently 4 degrees (maybe colder by now) and I've been wearing these boots for a few hours - they are amazing!! I've trialed 3 different pairs of winter riding boots prior to these and these are the first boots that have actually kept my feet toasty warm for longer than 30 minutes. I think they fit true to size. I ordered up a size so I could wear heavy socks with them and I think the fit is perfect. I was worried about the material scratching my saddle, but they are actually pretty smooth. I am extremely happy with them.

great tread, requires break in time
These boots feel warm and bulky, like my other Mtn. Horse boots did. I like the side zipper, as the zipper on the heel gets really worn out and dirty so fast. I found they fit true to size, but the ankle would need to break in for the calf to form comfortably around my leg. Unfortunately, I found a better fit for my needs and did not keep them, so cannot attest to their durability.

Nice winter boots!
When I ride in these boots, I forget that I'm riding in lined winter boots and not leather boots! Warm, great feel of my leg on the horse, pretty good for walking, and easy to clean. Will hopefully last a long time since I'd rather ride than shop for boots!
