Herm Sprenger NATHE Mullen Mouth Loose Ring is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Game changer for my sensitive mare I have a little 10 year old warmblood mare that I’ve had since she was born. I’ve done all the training on her myself, she’s only had a few other riders here and there. Just like her mother, she is very sensitive but mostly in a great way...her work ethic is always awesome and she gives all she has, every time. She mimics your body perfectly so if something isn’t going right, I know I’m doing something wrong. She’s been wearing a sprenger kk ultra loose ring and a plain, loose noseband for most of her life. Any time I tried to change up the bit or noseband, it would take her a LONG time to adjust. I always have had trouble getting her to really work from back to front...she’s always been just slightly too light in the bridle and never takes a good solid contact. I know, for sure, my hands aren’t harsh...if anything they are too soft at times. She also would often fuss with the bit, pulling it back with her tongue and biting it with her molars. I’ve had her teeth check many times. We changed saddles. Tried different bits. Tried different bridles. Tried doing cavaletti, hillwork, worked with different trainers, etc...but she’s never been comfortable going to the bit. She takes the bit out of my hand when bridling without having to ask her to open her mouth, but once it’s in, she clamps her jaw and panics if you try to check it (like bit checks at shows) Well she’s had a long while off now and I’m just bringing her back into some tack walking as part of an injury rehab. I figured if I wanted to try this bit now is a good time, since we get an opportunity to “start over”. I’ve only walked in it twice, but OMG...where has this bit been all my life??? Here is my very sensitive bit hating mare who has been stuck on stall rest for two months (and still is) and I hop on with this bit and holy cow! She took up the most solid contact I’ve ever felt from her in my life almost immediately! She felt straight which was always a struggle, and she was letting me drive her hind end up to the bit without backing off in short choppy strides like she always has. The second ride was even better...barely any chomping at the bit and I was blown away at how it seemed like magically she could bend through her entire body and not break at the shoulder. And she always used to halt and step out to the right, but now, she halts straight and keeps her topline long and reaching. The second ride, when I took her halter off, she even starting grabbing for the bit like it was a treat before I was even ready to put the bridle on. I can’t wait until we get vet clearance to up her work...she’s always been the best little horse as far as work ethic but always had that slight edge of anxiety with the bit. But now I’m so excited to see how much better we can be now that she has a bit she loves!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bit for Sensitive Horses I bought this bit a few weeks ago and have been able to put a few solid training sessions in with it. It has made all of the difference in my mares trainability. I was battling head tossing, mouth gaping, and unwillingness to accept even a light contact. Dental work was done last month, so I knew there wasn't an underlying issue I was missing. After spending a quite a bit of money on "special" metals and different snaffles I finally decided to try the Nathe bit. On the first ride with this bit it was a night and day difference. By the end of our first ride she was accepting the contact more and had a lot of salivation and foam. With continued use, this bit has allowed us to breakthrough in our training. It's a great bit for a sensitive mouthed horse, I highly recommend it. It has made all of the difference in my green mare. I can't attest to the durability yet but so far so good!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, a bit that WE love After 3 years we've finally found a bit that my OTTB loves. He's over-sensitive to regular bits, and although he would prefer bitless, the Nathe fits the bill for both of us. I ride dressage and he will maintain good contact with it, and I'm able to flex, bend, turn, etc with no trouble. Although he's not a chewer, I think the hard rubber would hold up ok. It molds across his tongue nicely and not having to warm it in the winter is a win! I can't attest to the stopping power if he spooks or bolts but I feel that it's not very harsh if I were to accidentally grab a bit. Will keep this in my bit box for future use as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super flexible! This bit is as mild as they come. It's very flexible and has a tongue relieving shape. Sized accurately, in my opinion (I got a 51/2"). So far, it looks like, unlike the rubber snaffle I was using, the horse will not be able to chew through it or bite off pieces. I have only been using it a week, but, so far, so good. I would give it 5 stars, but I am cautious, since it has yet to stand the test of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving it!! I've tried several bits over the last 2 1/2 years riding dressage on my now 24 year old TB to encourage contact, and have had minor success. I read the reviews on this bit and decided to give it a try. I'm pleased to report that he seems to love this bit! I lunge in side reins before I ride, and when I used this for the first time, he almost immediately stretched into a long and low frame. Then when I got on to ride he stretched into a nice soft contact right away. It usually takes quite awhile to achieve this contact, and even then it's never consistent. My trainer loved how he was going, and my friend rode him in this bit and she felt such a difference as well. It's a little on the pricey side but WELL worth it!! My horse is happy and so am I!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally Something for My Sensitive Horse I have a young horse that I started myself that had constant contact issues despite his teeth being done, ridden with educated hands, and in a good program. He would constantly avoid the contact by hiding, rooting, and spooking. We could not figure out what was wrong as we jumped from bit to bit. He seemed happiest in the Happy Mouth, but he still wasn't reaching for the contact. I finally tried this bit and he has been improving in leaps and bounds since the switch. We can finally actually work on dressage since he is finally happy to reach for the bit. I really wish I made this switch sooner, but I'm excited for this coming show season for this guy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My mare LOVES it It's made such a difference in my mare. She just doesn't like metal bits and was just fussy. She loves this bit and yields so much better!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My guy loves this bit This bit thus far is working great for my gelding, equine dentist says he has a "wavy mouth" and he is ultra sensitive, keeps his mouth happy and he is taking cues very well with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for soft mouths My rather particular OTTB mate started in this bit a month or so ago after my trainer had great success with it with her horses. For soft but fussy mouthed horses it's perfect and offers more flex and give than any other bit I've ever used. I highly recommend, love this bit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth considering if behind the bit I bought this bit for a horse that was bumped off of the bit by a previous trainer. He was always behind the bit and would not take any contact on the bit at all. I put him in very loose side reins on the lunge to start with and then I would ride him trying to get him to stretch down and then into collection. The first few times I saw a little change in the fact that he occasionally, actually made contact with the bit. By the sixth ride, he was reaching for the bit on the lunge about half of the time. Under saddle he would reach for the bit on a stretchy circle at the trot. He was also bending at the poll when he was ridden in collection. He did not really start to chew the bit until the sixth ride. Although we have not had a large number of rides with this bit, I think it is taking us where we want to go.
