Instructions for Use:
Use by painting the sole of the hoof, and a piece of brown paper to keep it in place and to prevent debris from sticking to the hoof. Also used to mix home remedies and hoof packing. Used as a drawing ointment for stone bruises and infections in the frog of the hoof or for infections caused by nail pricks. Can be used on hoof wall to help harden hoof that are weak and brittle.

Great standby product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used this to keep my horse's white hind feet tough but supple during turnout and as an extra layer of protection after he popped an abscess. my farrier loves the stuff and says my horse's feet are in great shape - i reach for it any time there is an issue!

If I could give it zero stars I would
This hoof oil is terrible and left a nasty and thick layer of gunk on my mares hooves. This completely deteriorated her hoof wall and caused her to lose her shoes on different hooves three times (my horse has never lost or pulled a shoe since i've had her which has been almost three years). The farrier had to scrape all the gunk off, which essentially created a greenhouse effect and trapped heat and moisture in her hooves. I haven't used the product in one month and her hooves are still recovering.

It works!
I bought this on a recommendation from my farrier for soft soles causing my horse discomfort. After a couple of weeks of daily application the soles look better and he is moving about without discomfort.

Just what the barn needed!
I just ordered this, so it hasn’t arrived yet. However, my barn is having issues at the moment with soft soles on numerous horses. Along with applying iodine, this turpentine is our “go to!” It’s working very well on toughening up the soles! I’ve looked at other local shops and they want an arm and a leg for turpentine. Thanks, SmartPak, for making this affordable to save our soles!

Helps Heal Hooves After Persistent Rain
My mares soles started appearing soft after two weeks of persistent rain. On the recommendation of my trainer I bought the Venice Turpentine to try and help toughen her soles. After two applications her feet appear so much healthier and stronger. I only use this 2-3 times a week to avoid too much of a good thing. This has become a new staple in my grooming kit.
I do recommend cleaning off the cap before sealing. I have managed several times to "glue" the cap onto the bottle which is remedied by running the container under hot water.

Helps Toughen Hooves
My horse had his shoes pulled about mid November, and after having shoes on for a while, his hooves were "ouchy." Thanks to Hawthorne's Venice Turpentine my horse's hooves got much tougher. All I did was apply this to the soles of his hooves every other day and soon enough, my horse could walk on gravel easily.

Definitely Helps!
I've been using this for about a month now since I've pulled my horses shoes for the winter and she's had no foot soreness. I believe a great deal of this is from the product. I started applying once a day, 2 weeks before her shoes were pulled and then for a little over a week after. In case anyone was wondering, the product is super sticky and can cause a small mess. However, it works so I can deal with the stickiness.

Works fast and well
My horse was having a problem this summer with pulling his shoes and his hooves cracking very badly. It got to the point that the ferrier even told us to move his paddock to see if that would help. I decided to try Venice turpentine on his hooves since it worked well on my last horse. I have been putting it on every day and within a couple weeks his hooves already looked stronger and I haven't had a problem with him pulling his shoes or even cracking his hooves since.

Toughens up tender hooves
I have used this product for over 2 years. My horse is barefoot and was always tender after trims and always in the winter with hard ground. Sticky and messy but worth it.

Toughens Hooves
Great Luck! Smart Pak carries Hawthorne Products - Venice Turpentine! Have used for a couple of weeks on my mare with softened hooves from the rainy spring we had in New England. Already, I can see a difference in her hooves. I have a TB cross with shalely feet and they are getting visibly stronger. I hope Smart Pak will carry more of the Hawthorne Products in the future.

so far so good
I have never used a product this thick and so time will tell if it helps my tender foot. I keep a small bucket of fine shavings near when I use this, because it helps to keep the foot clean. I paint on the thick (sticky, so wear gloves) ointment and then pack a handful of the clean shavings onto bottom of hoof. I'd rather that than walk him back to his stall through the mud and whatnot that will stick onto the turpentine. So far his feet seem good but it will take time to see long term if it helps with his feet and occasional tenderness. I have a thin soled OTTB, barefoot, as he can't handle shoes or keep them on and so I boot him when I ride.
