zipper was broken when the coat arrived
I opened up the box and put my coat on and the zipper did not work. I tried numerous times and the zipper was broken. I called customer service and they said that I could exchange it but then told me that they did not have any left in my size. It was 8 degrees and very cold and I could not find another coat. I decided to keep it but I had to take it to a tailor to be replaced with a working zipper. Of course that made the coat more expensive.

Truly a great barn coat
Bought this coat a few weeks ago and am so happy with it. Due to very long arms and a wider rib cage I normally size up to a large in coats but the medium fits with room for a hoodie underneath. Gives great range of motion and comfort, I ride 4-5 horses a day and can wear this coat the whole time and then zip it all down and teach all evening.

LOVED this coat until I, too, had zipper issues
This coat made it through roughly 2 winters in the Colorado mountains (which last about 6 months each), and then the zipper died on me. I thought I got lucky because I didn't have any trouble with the function of the zipper, like so many other people seem to have had, but some zipper teeth ended up breaking in the washing machine, and now the zipper can only go so far up, or it'll fall right off. I put a safety pin below it to hopefully keep the coat limping along at least through the rest of this winter.
Zipper aside, the coat is so warm, and a lot of that is due to the length. It washes really well (except for the previously mentioned zipper issue), and it holds up to abuse. I think it runs on the large side because I can comfortably fit it over a smaller, thin, puffy jacket if I need extra warmth. I love the hood and arm cuffs because they help keep the heat in, and the zippered side pockets are essential for treats and my phone.
I typically wear it for barn chores, but it's great for riding too - the double zipper and side zips at the bottom of the coat allow for some nice draping (and warmth!) while you ride.

Zipper!!!
Same issue with the zipper as others reported. Sitting on the fence to return for a refund or take the coat to a seamstress to replace the zipper.
Zippers should work with minimal effort vs the effort needed with the jacket. I tried several times and never successfully zipped the coat.

Warm & durable winter must-have
This coat is going on its second winter riding season with me now, and I don’t know how I survived New England winters at the barn without it! I usually ride or hand walk anywhere between 1-4 horses a day at two barns, so it gets a lot of wear and frequently taken on and off. I am always freezing, so it’s no small feat that some days this jacket keeps me warm enough tacking up that I don’t even need it to ride when I’m in an indoor. The other barn has a covered arena without sides, and being an adult ammy it can be tough to get the motivation to go ride in the cold after the sun sets. This jacket makes it easier by keeping me cozy, warm, and comfortable – I especially love the rear zip gussets so I can sit in the saddle without any awkward bunching! This coat fits true to size with enough room to layer underneath as needed.

Zipper is a huge no for me!
I bought this coat 2 months ago and have only gotten to wear it 4 times. It is extremely warm and comfortable but...The zipper is trash and broke the 4th time i tried to wear it. Now the buttons won't stay snapped making it virtually useless as it won't stay closed. I will be contacting Smartpak after the holiday to hopefully get some compensation for my wasted money.

Great length- zipper and pockets have issues
I've been using this coat for almost a year now and there are definitely pros and cons. The length is great, it keeps my legs warm on cold days at the barn and working outside. The sleeve length is also perfect (I have long arms, so it works for me). The right pocket got a good sized hole in it after about 3 months of use. I'm going to have to sew it up, because it's useless as is. The zipper is hard to get started, most of the time I just use the snaps. I agree with the other reviewers that SmartPak should send out a "recall" on the zippers, because that seems to be a constant complaint for an otherwise wonderful coat. The price point is good enough I am still glad I have it and I would buy another if the zipper and pockets improve. An inside pocket would also be very helpful!

Terrible zipper!
I should have read the reviews - the zipper is terrible. I can't actually zip up the coat. Other than that, it is a cute coat (on the lighter side) but not of the quality of previous "trainer's coats" I purchased from Smartpak. I had to wear it at the barn (it was cold!) on the day I tried it so now I can't return it, but otherwise I certainly would.

Awesome coat, except for the zipper
This is my second Hadley trainer coat. I bought this one as a replacement for my old coat after the zipper bit the dust after a year. I was hoping that SmartPak would have made upgrades to the zipper in the interim, but sadly the zipper on the new coat is tricky as well. I'm hoping the zipper on the new coat survives more than one season because I love everything about the coat besides the zipper!

Great Winter Riding Coat
This coat is great for cold weather riding! Really warm, and long enough to cover my thighs. The zippered back sections easily fit over my saddle, but zip closed to look chic when wearing out in public. This is my new favorite!!
