Rated 5 out of 5 by Libby2563 from Surprisingly good for sensitive horses When I first received this curry I thought there was zero chance my sensitive horses would like the hard plastic. Well I was wrong! They both tolerate it better than gel curries, and this thing is amazing at removing encrusted dirt. Now that shedding season is beginning I have learned that it's really good for that too. I am quite impressed, especially for the price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Horses2Love from Der Gute-Best for cleaning brushes while grooming! I studied many articles on Haas Grooming Brushes when looking for brushes for my sensitive red head mare. I read that the Der Gute Curry Comb is stiff for use to clean the body brush during grooming every few strokes and tapped to remove the debris, so it doesn't build up in the brush and go back on the horse. If a horse is not sensitive, it can also be used on the horse, but Haas has another curry that is soft for use on the horse and my mare accepts it. It is called the Striegel New Generation Soft Curry Comb. Perhaps Smartpak will look into stocking it. The reason that soft black rubber curries (that most of us have used for years) are not good for the horse is that they pull at the hair and skin because the rubber is not slick, but "sticky" which can damage the hair and be uncomfortable for the horse. A soft, but slick plastic curry like the Striegel New Generation Soft Curry glides over the horse, but still loosens shedding hair and dirt, which falls off with a tap on the sole of one's boot or fence rail, etc. The Der Gute is getting bad reviews because it is not being used in its intended manner! My mare is really liking her grooming sessions with the Haas Brushes, (body brushes used in order from stiff to soft.) I use both curries as described. Yes, they do make more noise than rubber curries, but we both got used to it. I still use a rubber glove with nubs to curry her legs if needed. The shine improves with each step. Her stall with mats and bedding goes un-slept in as she has access to a large dirt turnout with a deep sand area where she rolls 2-3 times a day and also takes naps. She is always dusty, except right after a bath in warm months. Her fly sheet lets dust through. She has fine hair and sensitive skin so it's great she now enjoys being brushed. My previous horses (over the past 50+ years) and I always loved grooming time and I was missing that connection with my mare.

I went back and forth about purchasing this curry comb because I didn't think that my horse would like the rigid plastic that this is made of. Well, I was wrong because my mare clearly LOVES this curry comb. As soon as I start using it on her, she puts her head down and starts to yawn, lick, and chew- she is instantly relaxed! It is great for pulling up hair and dirt, which doesn’t get entangled around the curry comb like it does around the rubber nodes on other curry combs. It also is a great tool to use to remove dirt/hair on other brushes as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Abigail from Seriously Der Gute! I was a little bit put off by the fact that this curry comb is a rigid plastic, but actually it works better than rubber curries. It's almost like a shedding blade, but softer. Loose hair doesn't collect in the comb, it lets go of it as soon as you take the comb off your horse. Like it said in the description, it also works well as a brush cleaner too. It's just super good, 10/10 recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by KBandKip from My horse loves it This is a very hard, thin plastic. It doesn't bend to conform to the horse's body like the rubber or softer plastic curries do. I was very skeptical when I opened the box but decided to try it anyways. Thank God I did because my horses LOVE this. I don't know how but it pulls up all the deep dirt and dust even in thick winter coats. It pulls up at least twice as much dirt as the standard black rubber curries. I gave it 4 stars because isn't comfortable in your hand as the plastic is so hard. But it's worth that to see how happy and clean it makes my horses!

At first, I thought it looked kind of plastic-y, but my big draft cross absolutely LOVES it. He relaxes as soon as I start using it and really can't get enough. Highly recommended. Great value!
