Why We Love This
This is our Extended Day net designed mostly for stall use or to create movement by spreading out feeding stations in your herd. This net comes in 1", 1.5”, or 2" mesh openings, measures 4' x 3' and holds approximately 8 flakes, 50 lb or a 2-String Bale of forage hay. It should last an average 1000 lb horse about 48 hours once the horse is transitioned. You will top this off every 2 days. Comes with 4 small break-away carabiners for closure, 2 large carabiners with 2 black optional cords for hanging.

The hay net should be hung at a sufficient height to avoid the risk of entanglement. To withstand the pulling and chewing associated with a hay net in use, the nylon mesh is extremely durable and will not give under pressure. As a result, it’s important to ensure the hay net is safely secured and won’t become loose as the hay is consumed.

I am not a review writer because I do not typically have strong feelings one way or another about things I buy. BUT these are the exception. What a piece of junk these are. From the clasps that break constantly to the hay nets that fall apart as the horses are eating from them. Every one I had gotten had holes made by the horses in days. I complained to smart pak and they sent me new ones thinking there was an issue with the quality of the first. NOPE the issue is that they are poorly made with horrible materials. They are very expensive for what you get. They know that they get holes in them because when you receive them they have "patch" kits with the new purchase. Don't buy these you will just waste your money.

Great concept- needs more R&D
I bought 3 of these nets a few months ago. At first I loved them. Very easy to fill and hang. Unfortunately I’ll be contacting SP about a return. As others noted, the clips are worthless and break within days of use. So if you do buy, best to buy a pack of clips at the hardware store too. If it were just the clips, I would still give a good review due to the functionality and I love the “softness” of the netting and I’m sure my horses appreciate it too. However, the net just doesn’t hold up. In less than a month of daily use the nets now have holes in them. I get ~6mo of use out of my other nets. My horses aren’t hard on nets or destructive. I would try the nets again if made more sturdy as I really like them ... but until that time, I’ll continue to use the sturdier slow feed nylon nets. Unfortunately I can’t recommend them.

Well, I can say that at least they haven't managed to put holes in the front of these nets... but that's about all I can say for it.
Instead, the sides where the carabiners sit continually break, leaving the net open and on the ground, which isn't exactly conducive to slow feeding. And, this may just be my horses, but these nets fully filled do NOT last more than 24 hours.
Overall, I had better luck just replacing my cheap slow feed nets when they started getting holes.

Super convenient!
I bought this to give my TB and QH something to hold them over all day while I’m at work, and it is awesome!! Really easy to load and hang, I typically fit about 4 big flakes in there (probably room for more) and it takes them all day to work through it. Money well spent!

She really DOES work with you!
I am absolutely THRILLED with these nets and with Melissa at Freedom Feeders! I have a dry two acre lot and my two horses seemed to be constantly hungry. I got two 1.5" extended day nets and suddenly the nagging in the pastures came to an end. One bag has held up extremely well to my aggressive eaters but the other bag was torn to shreds. I called the 800 number for Freedom Feeders. Melissa, the owner, called me back the same day! We had a great conversation and she made some suggestions hoping we could save that bag from further destruction. Two weeks later I messaged her again that my bag was now more repairs than original net. Four days after that I had a brand new net to replace my Frankenstein's Monster net, lol. Melissa sent me a 2" mesh to replace the 1.5" they tore apart. Hopefully this one is the key! I am SO appreciative of Melissa and Freedom Feeders for working with me to keep my horses fed and happy. I know for sure *I* am happy.

I was so happy when Smart Pak started carrying Freedom Feeder. These nets hold so much I can go away for the weekend and know my horse has enough hay. They hold up great to my young busy TB

just what I wanted
I have used Nibblenets for many years. I am using nets NOT to slow my horses down, but to have the possibility to feed them off the ground as we are living on sandy soil, and in order to waste less hay by trampling it in the sand. The freedom feeder is a nice addition to my system. I tied it to a fence rail on my paddock. I leave it open so it is even easier to fill. My mare is very gentle and so far has done really well with this net.
Pros:
it is big and holds a lot of hay
it is easy to fill
when the meshing gets wet and then freezes (as it is often the case here in the Midwest in the winter) it still stays pliable and easy for the horses to eat
soft on gums and teeth
Cons:
not as easy to move around like my nibblenets (not a problem for me)
in freezing conditions, the weaving mechanism to open and close the net would be a chore (not a problem for me, as I leave the net open).

Prefer to the canvas nets by far
I started w these switched to nibble nets and now back to these. Soooo much easier for me to handle as my nets are hung by a ring up high! Even with the biggest 2 in size my horses are slowed down enough. They eat Timothy and alfalfa in separate nets. The alfalfa can be really hard at times so this is much less frustrating for them and they don’t destroy the net. The best honestly wish strings thicker would be easier to untie. Otherwise great product. Esp easy since I weigh hay before feeding
