Many people shy away from it completely, but it is an essential part of being a good caretaker to your horse. My horse, Lucky, is a gelding. I clean his sheath monthly. Removing the smegma and any beans that may be present inside the sheath will not only help your horse feel more comfortable but will give you a chance to check for sores, ticks and anything else that may need addressing. Equiderma Sheath and Udder Cleanser for Horses is a non-soap cleanser that rinses away easily and reduces inflammation, and it helps soothe the delicate tissue in both geldings and mares. The all-natural ingredients make me feel that I am doing the best I can do for my horse without harsh soaps or irritants. I am a big fan of ALL Equiderma products.

I bought this directly through Equiderma so I won’t be listed as a verified purchaser, but here is the review I left them: I used it on my draft-cross mare that I purchased 3 months ago. Her udders/vulva were just NASTY! I don’t think she’d been cleaned in ages.I have been trying other cleansers, but nothing seemed to break through the mess, and she was very reluctant to let me touch her. I applied this, let it sit for 5-10 min, while shampooing her tail. When I went to rinse, the gunk came off in big globs and after a few nervous flicks of the tail, she realized it didn’t hurt or irritate, and she stood perfectly still. I was even able to use a sponge on the really bad areas. She is now perfectly clean, and her skin feels soft, not irritated and scabby. I’m very pleased, and I’m sure she is too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by SmartPaker Carly from Gentle Cleaner As a big fan of Equiderma products, I decided to give their sheath cleaner a whirl after having so much luck with their skin lotion, fly spray and shampoos. All of my animals seem to have sensitive skin so I always have to be super mindful about what I am putting on their bodies. I found that this sheath cleaner was great for my gelding's sensitive skin. I am lucky that my barn has a wash rack with warm water available to keep my horse comfortable while cleaning his sheath and that he lets me do it myself with very little reaction. I use a bucket of warm water handy, lather up the cleaner in my hands and start cleaning. I found that the cleaner worked quickly, smelled great and was very effective in cleaning his sheath. The product itself I found to be a bit runnier than other sheath cleaners, so be prepared when you go to dispense it as it comes out quickly. With that said, it lathered up very quickly and I found a little bit went a long way which means the bottle will last me a long time.

I am a relatively new horse owner x 6 months, and I was terrified of cleaning his sheath, 1. because I wasn't that familiar with how to do it right, 2. because he doesn't drop / immediately retracts, 3. because his sheath was really really unsanitary and I did not think I would get it to be clean in 1 sitting. This product was very easy to use and effective. I watched the video on the equiderma website which was helpful. The product is a bit more runny than one may think, so you just have to apply it carefully to make sure it gets where it needs to go. In my case, my gelding does not really drop his sheath, so I just very gently applied it as far up with him retracted, as I could reach. I used a hose with lukewarm water to clean it off about 10 minutes later, and he essentially had a whole new penis. It looked better than I would have expected or hoped for! I will definitely be using this product in the future. Makes a difficult task easy and stress free for horse and owner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mich from Glad I spent the $ My horse is well, uhm, gross... He has always been like that. I use to buy another product but thought I would venture out and get something different. I love EquiDerma products so I figured I would love this one too! The one thing that was different to me is that this product wasn't as foamy or soap like as I thought it would be. It is a very thin liquid and I feared I would waste more than I would use. After using it 1 time, I got out the most important part which in the past was no easy feat, I did not waste as much as I would have thought, and my horse enjoyed the process. I will definitely buy again.
