Overview

Why We Love This

Ecovet, available in a fresh scent, is a new alternative to traditional fly products containing pyrethrins or essential oils. Research has shown that certain fatty acids act as insect attractants, while others are repellents. Ecovet uses a proprietary mixture of naturally occurring fatty acids that confuses and overwhelms the insect’s normal directional ability, so the insect is unable to locate your horse as its next victim. It’s like having a GPS system that is shouting confusing and conflicting directions at you … until you finally give up.

Available in a 4 oz Mini Spray Bottle, an 18 oz. Spray Bottle, and a Gallon Refill Bottle (1 Gallon Contains Enough Ecovet to Refill an 18 oz. Bottle 7 Times!)

Ecovet Fly Repellent is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 218.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only fly spray that works I started using this spray this year and will not be without it again! It's literally the only spray I can use on my horse that repels stable flies and doesn't cause his skin to react (unlike Pyranha). It is VERY strong and I only spray it outside the barn - it doesn't seem to bother my horse, but it causes me to start coughing if I inhale it. I only wish it came in an in-between size - 18 oz doesn't last long, and a gallon is way too much! Tip: wear a painter's mask/respirator and use a brush or towel when applying.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Can’t get past the smell, but does work. So, I know that this stuff works well compared to a lot of other sprays. It works differently, and there is value in keeping in my fly control arsenal, but I find the smell pretty unbearable! My horses don’t like it either. Strong, weird chemical odor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from EcoVet New scent! Still find it very pricey. I give it a 8 on a 1-10 scale.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Anti-breathing Bought first gallon mid July. How can this AMINO ACID new scent formula be safe for horses when I cannot breathe when applying ......the benzene in it chokes off air in applier. Happened with everyone in our barn. I put a finger swip on my cheek to check on skin reception .... had to wash it immd as it burned my face ...... so is it burning my horses skin??????? Please reformulate as this current model will not be repurchased.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Allergic Reaction I use this on two different horses and both after a couple of days had hives in the areas that it was sprayed lower legs, and under carriage.
Date published: 2018-07-18
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Keeps flies at bay, but irritating This spray has a soapy smell, and is irritating to eyes and nose if it blows towards you (my horse also finds it irritating and blows while I'm spraying.) This can be managed by brushing it in as you spray. It does work though - unlike other flysprays, the flies do not come near the horse after using. I think it lasts about a day. I am finding that I'm going through it fast... At this price and considering the irritation factor, I probably wouldn't order again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have tried this last summer Really amazed at how effective this spray is. Using less than half of our usual amount of fly spray daily in the very humid and damp South, horses out 24/7. Able to put it on non sweating areas on very hot days and it still works fairly well. Tail swishing, running into the shed from the flies and stomping gone. Odor is tolerable, you do not want to breath it in but true for all fly sprays We use a bandana or allergy mask when spraying it on and that works just fine. Well worth the price for comfort of the horses.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Improved scent not better I had hoped the improved scent would keep me and the horses from coughing and sneezing when spraying onto the horses. I will not buy again.
Date published: 2018-07-09
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! We bought this to try back in April. Used it at 1 horse show and it works great. Don't have to spray the horses nearly as often for the flies.
Date published: 2018-07-09
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works - it really works! This spray is amazing. I have used it for about four weeks and it's hands down exactly what it is advertised. The true test was at a show yesterday where the deer flies and Japanese beetles were everywhere. The bugs literally flew around us but didn't land. It was an 85 degree day and I reapplied once my gelding had worked up a sweat and been sponged halfway through the day. Like other reviews, I advise not to be downwind and inhale. You will gag and cough. I'd also keep it away from the horse's face for that same reason. It's not cheap but then you get what you pay for. I'm a believer. My horses' comfort is worth every penny this costs!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from New smell is worse than original This stuff does work...but the new "lavender" smell is worse than the original "crayons stuck up your nose" smell. I use lavender oils a lot and this new awful scent must be a result of combining the lavender with the original smell. I can't wait to get home to shower off-just riding in the car with the smell on me from the mist that got on me while spraying the horse is tough. But it does work so I use it on days the flies are worse than usual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great! We use it in our restaurants and it works great!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best fly spray! I didn't know what to expect when I got this spray cause just like the rest of you no matter what fly spray you get your horse gets eaten alive! But this stuff is down right AWESOME! ! I'm definitely buying more!!
Date published: 2018-06-21
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not at well as expected There was less flies and the one that landed seem to quickly fly off, including a determined huge horse fly that tried 4 times to find a spot before giving up. Smell like a dirty sponge, but works better than everything else that I have tried so far.
Date published: 2018-06-20
Rated 1 out of 5 by from awful smell didn't really work well and the smell is awful and made my horse cough and i got sick to my stomach, i sprayed it outside still bad
Date published: 2018-06-19
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works for a short time, and smells like H&*% This fly spray will keep the flies off for an hour or two - maybe better then your average fly spray, but it smells like dead meat mixed with cheap perfume - and it really smells! My friend can smell my horse when I ride by in the arena - it is that strong! Meanwhile - a few hours later, my horse is still covered in flies. And the stuff is expensive - not sure it is worth it...
Date published: 2018-06-19
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Flyspray This stuff works like magic! Definitely keeps the flies off the legs and chest but you have to be outside to spray it and be upwind of it. I recommend spraying once or twice, then move the horse away from your spray area. Do NOT use this stuff inside the barn. All the horses will be coughing as I found out. Also, it doesn't smell as bad to me as other reviewers have mentioned.
Date published: 2018-06-19
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive This spray works & lasts best of all the fly spray products I have tried. I would not say “best” or (“fresh”) about it’s smell however. Also it’s rather inconvenient that you can’t apply it when the horse is wet.
Date published: 2018-06-18
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Read reviews wanted to try It definately was good at keeping the flies away however my TB is 33 years old and it burned his skin worked great on the 19 year old horse
Date published: 2018-06-15
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Seems very effective – but the smell is awful! I don't know what the old scent was, but this "fresh new scent" is bad. After spraying it both my horse (who has Inflammatory Airway Disease) and I have trouble breathing and start coughing; I have to use it outside and upwind. Once the mist dissipates, the scent is tolerable, and the product seems to work effectively.
Date published: 2018-06-13
Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORSE HAD SKIN REACTION My horse is really bothered by the flies and this product was highly recommended by fellow equestrians. I tried this and it caused skin reaction and my horse lost the hair on his legs. I am not happy with this product at all, and my horses coat looks terrible just in time for show season.
Date published: 2018-06-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lives up to the hype - actually works! After hearing about this fly spray literally all over the place, and since the start of an unusually bad fly season in Indiana, I decided to bite the bullet and see if Ecovet was all it was cracked up to be. I had read the smell was strange, but was hoping the 'new fresh scent' would help alleviate that. Definitely smells like lavender, definitely works. While other fly sprays can't even get flies to budge while you douse them, my mare walks through clouds of flies and gnats without them touching her. I use 5 sprays - one on each leg and 1 down her underside, and she is content. Lasts long, makes the whole barn smell like lavender. The ONLY complaint I have is that if you breathe it in, while not bad, it is STRONG and usually sends me into a coughing fit. So hold your breath while you spray.
Date published: 2018-06-11
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a fan I had been using Wipe and thought I would try something different. This product was not effective in keeping all the bugs off. So back to Wipe I go.
Date published: 2018-06-04
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Scent is too strong. We have terrible mosquitos this year so I thought I’d try something different. It’s works ok, but not great. The scent is so strong it makes you gag and bothered my horse too. It seems toxic to breathe. Didn’t care for it.
Date published: 2018-06-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I tried this for the first time to see if it would work better than other fly sprays and have to say that I am impressed that it does seem to keep flies from landing. My only issue is the cost/unit is quite high.
Date published: 2018-05-29
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works, but... Holy canoli Batman, this fly spray's scent is STRONG. And not in a good way. While the new scent does smell better than the original, it is not for the faint of heart. I could hear the flies begging for mercy as I sprayed them off my poor mule's legs. Then, my mule begged for mercy as the fumes engulfed us as well. I managed to get some mist in my eye (I've never done that before with fly spray) and it stung like a thousand angry yellow jackets. As my mule and I exited the gas chamber I accidently created, we both gulped in fresh air in relief. Okay, I may be a little dramatic but for reals though, use this stuff OUTSIDE and make sure there isn't any wind! Even well ventalited barns aren't sufficient. I now tie to the trailer in the open when I use this stuff and even kinda avoid that area for awhile. But, it's totally worth it. My mule was getting absolutely eaten alive by flies earlier this spring and this was the only stuff that would get them off her legs and keep them away. It's been a real game changer for us and the new scent is at least tolerable. I had a bottle a year or so ago that I used once and had to get rid of. Overall, it is worth it, so long as you have a sufficiently ventilated area in which to use it.
Date published: 2018-05-24
Rated 3 out of 5 by from strong smell This is as good as any other fly spray, but if you are sensitive to perfume or strong scents, I don't recommend.
Date published: 2018-04-23
Rated 1 out of 5 by from HATE THE SMELL smells like mens cologne..and not the good stuff lol. dont think it works really well either
Date published: 2018-04-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Fly Spray! I have been using this fly spray since it was first put on the market and it is by far the best, longest lasting fly spray I have used.
Date published: 2018-03-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smells bad, but works great I love this stuff. It smells like cheap mens cologne, but kills on contact and lasts!!!
