Ecovet, available in a fresh scent, is a new alternative to traditional fly products containing pyrethrins or essential oils. Research has shown that certain fatty acids act as insect attractants, while others are repellents. Ecovet uses a proprietary mixture of naturally occurring fatty acids that confuses and overwhelms the insect’s normal directional ability, so the insect is unable to locate your horse as its next victim. Good fly control with fewer chemicals
I bought this product a) because nothing else seems to work and b) it does not contain the classic pyrethrins/permethrins that most other fly sprays use. I do not find the smell a problem nor do I find that spraying it on in a tack stall is a problem as some other users found. Only got to use it for a short period at end of last fly season - this year will be the true test!

Best option I've found.
This the only fly spray I have ever used that makes the gnats unbury themselves from my horses skin and drop off. It is true you don't want to spray it indoors, and make sure you are upwind, but honestly you should be doing that with most fly sprays anyway. I mostly use this spray as a ride fly spray. Even in the bug infested southern summers this will usually let me get a decent ride in without my horse going crazy from horse flies and gnats. I also use it on my horses chest and belly to help with the burrowing gnats. A little bit defenitely goes a long way, and the smell actually doesnt bother me. Just don't inhale it or overdo it.

Best fly spray
I agree the smell isn’t great but at some point the flies are so bad that you don’t care what it smells like. As long as you don’t get any on your hands the smell doesn’t linger. By far the best fly spray on the market in terms of effectiveness!

Wanted to love it but couldn't
I do think it worked better than other fly sprays I've tried (many), but not the miracle cure, and as others have said, it's very irritating and made me cough no matter how carefully I sprayed it down wind. Maybe the issue is that I used it too sparingly because of how irritating it was.

It WORKS
Hands down, this is the best fly spray of any kind that I have ever used on my horses. A little bit goes a long way, and then NO bugs, at all, PERIOD. It is pretty long-lasting too, which is a huge plus. HOWEVER, it breathing it in is AWFUL. It's not even so much the smell, but it will make you gag and cough and regret your life choices (at least choices related to this fly spray). Definitely spray it in an open area - and then run away! (Preferably run away WITH your horse because it'll make them gag and cough too!) But once the air clears, it's totally worth it. It's a trade-off I guess. I have heard that maybe it's better to spray it on a towel and then wipe it on. I'd wear latex gloves though, so I don't leave the barn with stinky hands.

Best Stuff EVER but.....
This stuff is STANKY! At first it's not unpleasant, and I really never go "Ewwww!" but there's something about it that will just take your breath right away. It works better than anything else on the market but don't use it in a small, enclosed area.

Best Fly Spray I've Used
I've tried many, many brands of flyspray on my horse. She's very sensitive to flies so she gets hives and itches her belly raw. This spray actually keeps the flies away, kills them on contact, and stops them from even landing on her. My vet sold it to me first, but Smartpak is much cheaper.
I also think it's funny that people are complaining about the smell... it's a fly spray, you don't need it to smell good lol. However, it does have a strong, almost herbal smell to it. I recommend spraying it in the open and not in confined areas, it can be a little overpowering.

Only thing that repels black stable flies
I agree with other reviewers that this smells very strong, and there's something in it that makes it feel like you don't want to inhale it within 10-15 seconds of being sprayed. You should spray it on your horse outside if possible, or spray it and hold your breath or run. That being said, my horse was injured last month and I did NOT want her stomping and the black stable flies are unavoidable this time of year. This stuff absolutely worked not only on her but also in her stall. It's worth every penny if you horse, like mine, can be so addled by the flies that she stomps her shoes off.

Won't buy again
Strong chemical smell, burns my eyes and I hold my breath when applying. Top that off with the flies around here weren't impressed and it did little to repel them. Save your money.

Horrible nose burning smell
I can not get this smell off of myself and my horse. It is horrible! It burned my nose when I sprayed her so I'm sure it did the same to her. We both ended up having to take breathing treatments today because this stuff was so bad. I immediately gave her bath but the smell still didn't come off! Everything in my grooming bag now smells like it because the spray nozzle leaked. Wouldn't recommend unless your horse it turned out all of the time and you don't mind their nose and throat burning from the smell. Total waist of money

Wouldn't recommend
This product made both myself and the my horse cough and sneeze. Not only my horse in cross ties but the horse next to us. I didn't see any significant difference in fly control.

Does good job repelling flies but....
I hate spraying my horses with chemicals so I decided to give this a try. I agree with others the smell is awful. It did repel the flies. But the only way I could apply this and still breath was to spray it on a soft brush and then brush my horses.

Smelled Awful!
Not impressed with this product. I found it hard to breathe when I just sprayed it on my mit and applied, and my horses HATED IT! Worked fair on bugs, but the smell was the deal breaker for me! Buy Smart Pak brand fly spray instead. It performs better and smells GREAT!!!

The BEST fly spray!
I have been using this fly spray for years, even before Smartpak got it in stock. It's all natural and works so well despite the not so beautiful smell. The smell does not bother me because it works so well. Definitely recommend!

It works
I like this fly spray because it seems to work well, and for an extended period of time. One thing of note is that it has a bit of a tear gas effect. . . DO NOT spray it in a contained space and allow it to dry/settle on your horse before putting them back in a confined area.

Fly spray that actually works!
our farm is sandwiched between a cattle operation and a field full of goats! We have loads of flies and biting bugs. We are also in a very hot, humid climate. Most days it is just buggy and disgusting. I purchased Ecovet Fly Repellent figuring it would work for 5 minutes like most fly sprays. Boy, was I wrong! This stuff is great and works all night. My horses get about 4 sprays before evening turnout and this keeps them happy and bug free. My new fly spray for life!

Nasty Scent
I bought this product once and never bought it again. The smell was overwhelming and never went away even after I washed my hands. However I did notice that it did repel bugs adequately (probably because of the horrible chemical smell). Would not buy again.

Finally a fly spray that actually works! Bravo.
The horseflies are killers this year in the Midwest. We have had a ton of rain & the bugs near our marsh & woods torture our horses. Until now nothing worked for more than a few minutes. I sprayed Beau at 9pm. When I returned to get Beau from an open field at 9am the next day he was bug free, grazing comfortably. No more open bloody bites & the flies were not landing on him. Be sure and read the directions carefully! This is no ordinary fly spray. It smells pleasant too! Stock up:-)

Works but the smell is overpowering
This fly spray seems to work as well as the more expensive common sprays (Piranha, Endure, etc). However, I would NOT recommend spraying this stuff in your horse's stall...mine went into a sneezing fit and I can see why! We jokingly call it the barn "pepper spray" because it sort of reminds us of inhaling pepper with the sneezing. It's not a bad smell as it smells sort of like soap and cinnamon or something, but it's just overpowering to breathe in is all. Also I have to squint my eyes almost closed just because if even the tiniest bit drifts up in the air and gets in my eyes it stings like mad! For me, I'd rather just get the other brands mentioned, since they seem to work just as well and are priced similarly, without the "pepper spray" side effects ;)
