Overview

Why We Love This

Ecovet, available in a fresh scent, is a new alternative to traditional fly products containing pyrethrins or essential oils. Research has shown that certain fatty acids act as insect attractants, while others are repellents. Ecovet uses a proprietary mixture of naturally occurring fatty acids that confuses and overwhelms the insect’s normal directional ability, so the insect is unable to locate your horse as its next victim. It’s like having a GPS system that is shouting confusing and conflicting directions at you … until you finally give up.

Available in a 4 oz Mini Spray Bottle, an 18 oz. Spray Bottle, and a Gallon Refill Bottle (1 Gallon Contains Enough Ecovet to Refill an 18 oz. Bottle 7 Times!)

Ecovet Fly Repellent is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 218.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product works. This product has been good at keeping the flies of my horse. I wish it was more nature friendly, but with the hot, humid weather, it has allowed my horse to stay out longer without being bothered by flies.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from powerful scent but works I almost asphixiated myself and our horse with spraying too much. I learned to do short bursts. I also recalled customer services advice. about where to spray. The scent is overwhelming so MUST use outside and away from hay your horse is eating or it is ruined. We let hay stay outside to "dry" then used as underbedding.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works! This fly spray works better than everything else I have tried so far this summer. It has an unusual scent, reminds me of old fashion strong smelling hand soap. It isn't unpleasant, just a very strong odor. Both my horses don't mind the odor and love not being pestered by the flies. I like it because I can use less of it and it keeps them happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works Several different species of determined flies were totally repelled for the duration of a 2 hour ride, even with sweat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT My gilding has had an allergic reaction to bug bites every summer with past few years to the point that there were raw areas where he rubbed himself trying to scratch his itching. Nothing really seem to help. I bought this fly spray in hopes it would help is allergic reaction to the bug bites. It works! He still has his hair this summer which means I can show him. It makes us both very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the rest I have waited a while to write this review. I am an asthmatic, and one of my horses is also very allergic. I spray as directed (small amounts) outside, and we are both fine. The Ecovet seems to be working great on the flies. In fact, I stopped using the fly boots, because the horses seem comfortable enough. Only time it does not work are when the B-52 flies are around. I pulled out the poison (ultrashield) for them. Not sure that did any better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Repels flies and people! Full disclosure, this stuff is potent. If you accidentally get it in your eyes it will burn like acid, and God-forbid you inhale it, as it will trigger a coughing fit like you just inhaled mustard gas. You and your horse will smell like you bathed in the stuff, even with just a few sprays, and your spouse will not find this the least bit attractive. On the plus side, bugs of all species will not find your horse attractive either, and it seems to last all day. It may even get you through a checkout lane faster, as no one wants to stand near you. I'll be purchasing this again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps the Flys Away! This is the only thing we have found that really works. It smells awful - even the new scent - and will almost choke you but it works. Stand upwind when using.
Date published: 2019-07-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff Bought this after listening to podcast about fly control on farms. This was one of several brands recommended by speaker. Works great. Horse is happy.
Date published: 2019-07-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from works well- could be a little cheaper for the size This is the best fly spray around- don't get it into your eyes, mouth, or nose. The organic acids burn mucous membranes but really do the trick creating a cloud of protection around your horse! A little goes a looooooong way. Bottle is pretty small and goes quickly if you over-spray
Date published: 2019-07-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It actually works. I bought both the new scent and the old scent and I can't tell much of a difference. This is effective. Be sure to apply it sparingly, it's potent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hands Down, the BEST Fly Repellent In 40 Years! I've thrown out all my other fly sprays, ointments, creams, etc. Applied correctly, this keeps flies OFF my horses. I still use masks with ears, fly traps, a feed-through fly larvacide and SmartPak Flystoppers. But Ecovet is our first line of defense and IT WORKS AS ADVERTISED. Keeps away flies, midges (no-see-ums), mosquitoes and gnats. The bugs find ME but not the horses. Go to Ecovet's website and watch the videos on how it works and how to apply. The new lavender fragrance is MUCH nicer than the old fragrance. Ecovet contains silicon (that's how the food-grade fatty acids are delivered to your horse's skin) - which is what can make you and/or your horse cough if you inhale it. Don't spray Ecovet on the horse's face !!! and don't stand downwind when you're applying it. You only spray the legs, midline and a spritz behind the ears. Lasts a long time; the bottle is not as large as "regular" fly sprays but you don't use as much. Spray it CLOSE to the horse's body. I truly can't believe that everyone isn't already using this product. There is nothing as effective. Or even close.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just ok Have been looking for an effective alternative to chemical sprays for my fly-sensitive horse, since I spray both before and after work. I tried both this and OutSmart to compare. Ecovet was expensive and didn’t seem to work as well as OutSmart. Both seem to induce sneezing at times, but this also had an unpleasant nasal sensation if the mist blew toward me.
Date published: 2019-06-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from best I've ever used This fly spray is very effective, lasts several days. My horse is very allergic to flies and it has really helped

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is a pesticide. Purchased and returned. Precautionary statement on bottle - May cause eye or respiratory irritation, avoid contact with skin, clothing, etc.
Date published: 2019-06-22
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works great, but smells terrible! I tried this spray because I have a very sensitive TB that absolutely hates bugs on or near him. While I found it quite pricey, I hoped I was getting my money's worth when I used it. So far I've used it twice on humid, buggy days and thankfully no bugs! Huge win!! HOWEVER, the "new fresh scent" is terrible! My gelding, myself and all the horses nearby sneeze and/or cough after I spray it. At first I just thought I was using too much ( since I always seem to have to apply everything else twice). So the next time I was more careful but we still all gagged and sneezed! And it's not just the smell either, there's something about it that just sticks in your throat. Makes me wonder what those "other" ingredients are!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fly spray that works Ecovet fly spray is one of the only sprays that does its job. The smell, although better is still vey strong. Spray in an open area.
Date published: 2019-06-12
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Will not order again This fly spray keeps flies off about like the rest of them but dont spray it inside. It seems like it sucks all the air up. Horses cough and so do I.
Date published: 2019-06-12
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Breathing irritant First I will say that this product is pretty effective. Ticks actually seem to hate it and they have been a big problem in my area this spring. Horse flies also seem to dislike it. But with that said I will ONLY use this on my clients horses and will grab anything else if it’s available. If I have to use it I stay upwind of it, but that’s of little use as it always ends up on my hands as I spray. It’s an asthma trigger for me, as it’s being sprayed and even just the smell. And it doesn’t wash away easily it just lingers until it’s gone. A couple of friends who don’t have asthma have also complained of it irritating their airways. So just be aware, if you use it & try to use it in well ventilated areas, preferably outside rather than in the barn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! I used this for my sensitive OTTB! The best I’ve used yet!
Date published: 2019-05-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product! So, before purchasing this product I was a little nervous because many of the reviews say that it smells bad.....but that it works. I decided to give it a try. Every time I use this product on my horse a friend says how much she loves the smell. I couldn't even believe it! Not kidding! I don't apply it the traditional way by spraying it. I put a puddle of product in my hand on a plastic glove and I apply it to the different areas as suggested by Ecovet. So far it seems to be working well and I like the idea of evaporating fatty acids more than toxic chemicals. My horse doesn't react poorly to it at all. I think if you spray it, that's when the smell may be overwhelming. However, I am willing to put up with the smell if it protects my horse from flies and ticks. I am very pleased with this product and I feel good about using it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Made my nose burn This product when sprayed according to directions, and keeping it well well away from my horse’s face was so strong it burned my nose and made my horse sneeze violently. The next day, I sprayed only lightly and outside of the stall., not even on the neck with the same result. I shall not be using any more of it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really works! I bought this a few months ago with my smartpaks based on the good reviews. My 23 year old paint gelding is a fly magnet and was covered in bites despite being fly sprayed twice a day. Ecovet flyspray really works! Just a few sprays per side keep the flys from landing on him all day long. The only downside is the smell is very strong. This gelding doesn't mind it but it makes my other gelding sneeze.
Date published: 2019-05-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really works!! Must use in a well ventilated area because it will make you cough! Works fantastically without exposing your horse to dangerous chemicals.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works This works so great, I use it despite the smell. Phenomenal fly repellent
Date published: 2019-04-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ever! This stuff works. Do not breathe it or let your horse breathe too much of it, but if you need to keep flies off, this is the product for you. I used it camping where there are tons of gnats and all the other horses were swishing tails and my guy was standing calmly. So glad I had this spray. You can also use a small amount on the back of fly mask ears and it helps keep the bugs away from their faces.
Date published: 2019-04-02
Rated 5 out of 5 by from IT WORKS!!! The ONLY fly spray I’ve ever used that really does keep those leg biting flies off.
Date published: 2018-10-08
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Horrid smell, but actually works! This fly spray actually takes my breath away it smells so horrible. The smell is of intense chemical I’m not even sure how it’s natural. However it actually does really work!! I will not order this again until they figure out how to make it smell better. It makes all the horses in the barn sneeze until the spray settles, and it literally takes my breath away.
Date published: 2018-09-07
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Smells horrible! Doesn't work well The product says 'new scent' so I'm guessing there were issues before, and unfortunately it smells horrible. We could smell it from several feet away when we first put it on (nearly unbearable), but then there were flies on my horse 20 min later. Very disappointing.
Date published: 2018-08-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from If only fly spray still worked... I ordered a bottle of this after having it recommended by a friend. As most people I know, nothing is working this year for flies, and it seems to be even worse in New England. We have been having a hot humid weather in Maine this year and I have yet to find a fly spray that works. I was hopeful that this would work, but my horse didn't stomp, bite, swish any less than he did before I used this. I will be placing an order for a fly sheet and fly boots as it seems the flies have built up a tolerance to fly spray. I also don't like that the bottle states 85% other ingredients. I wish it showed the entire list of what is in the bottle. The smell is also horrendous.
