What is MIPS helmet technology?
MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) is an additional brain protection system.
The MIPS system was invented in 1996 in Sweden by Hans von Holst, a neurosurgeon and Peter Halldin, a researcher from the Royal Institute of Technology.
MIPS is designed to add protection against rotational motion (or kinematics) transmitted to the brain from angled impacts to the head, which is how most riders fall.
Rotational motion is a combination of rotational energy (angular velocity) and rotational forces from angular acceleration that both affect the brain and increase the risk for minor and severe brain injuries.
MIPS’ added protection system has been proven to reduce rotational motion when implemented in a helmet by redirecting energies and forces otherwise transmitted to the brain.
How does MIPS work?
MIPS is an additional liner that is incorporated inside the riding helmet.
This low-friction layer enables your head to move 10-15mm in all directions, which has been proven to reduce the rotational movement to the brain and therefore injury (particularly concussion and traumatic brain injury).
The core idea behind MIPS is to simulate and enhance the brain’s own protection system, which uses the same principle of the brain being able to slide a little bit against the skull.

Saved my noggin
I've had this helmet for two years. It was one of the first MIPS helmets i could manage to afford. Today it met the ground and protected my noggin like a champ! I'm so glad i was wearing it! It's been very comfortable. I like that i could remove the liner to wash it, especially since it does get pretty hot as the ventilation isn't great.

Saved my bacon.
This helmet saved me from some serious head trauma. I had a serious fall and fell directly on my head - the hard thud as my head pummeled into the ground was audible by bystanders. I suffered what I think was a very minor concussion and had a bit of a headache for a day, but had zero cognitive issues as a result of the fall and am fully recovered days later. After experiencing first hand how this helmet performs in a crash I can say I’m a huge believer in the MIPS technology and it works. If you don’t have a helmet with MIPS yet you absolutely should. I bought the same helmet to replace my old one that I fell in.

Nice helmet.
This is a very nice helmet. I had the Charles Owens GR8 which I replaced due to age. I was concerned after reading reviews that the size wouldn’t be consistent with my GR8-that this helmet runs small. I didn’t find that to be the case. I ordered the same size of my GR8 & it fits perfectly.

Comfortable and feels very sturdy
I got this to replace my trauma void helmet which I liked but wasn't seeing it back in stock anywhere. I did get the same size in both. Fits snugly and securely and feels very protective.

Comfortable and great fit
I have an oval shaped head and there are only a couple of Charles Owen helmets that fit me correctly. When this new technology came out, I was concerned about fit but it is perfect! I don't even know that I am wearing a helmet. Only complaint is that the exterior got scratched by a tree branch on a ride and it can't be removed. But if the helmet keeps me safe in a spill, I can live with it.

Thank you Charles Owen MyPS
My horse fell and took me down with him. We were cantering along and then I recall thinking "we are going down". I had on this Charles Owen MyPS helmet and a safety vest. It was a bad fall -- I had two impacts. I first hit the ground and then for some reason (maybe he kicked me out of the way?) flew across the ground another six feet or so and hit the bottom of the arena fence post. My helmet had many obvious scuff marks so I know I hit my head at least once. I got away from that accident with only a very sore neck, and fell like I was lucky all in all. Could have been so much worse. Thanks to this helmet, no head trauma. I purchased the same size as my prior ARY8 and it fit the same.

Maybe safe but looks like a bucket
I bought this after looking at various MIPS helmets. I like my other Charles Owens helmets so I decided to give this one a try. I took the advice to order a size larger than normal and I'm glad I did. It is comfortable, but during my first long ride it did have a pressure point on the side of my head. It seems fine for shorter sessions. Not that it really matters, but when I saw the video of my ride, I was dismayed to see how big this helmet looks! I'm not sure why the underside of the visor is soft, but it make me wonder how long it will last with daily use.

Odd fit
I normally love Charles Owen helmets. I own the AYR and the 4*. For some reason though this helmet fits differently than their other helmets. There were strange bumps right near the temple region that put weird pressure points on my skull. Not sure if I needed to size up or if it was due to the removable liner in this helmet. Either way I had to return it as it would have given me a headache.

Extremely comfortable
I bought this helmet after a significant non-horse related head injury. I have never worn a helmet unless we are to count a hunt cap for showing. It is extremely comfortable, and does form fit to your head the very first day. It has been around 100* and not going to lie, my head sweats, but it is not unbearable. Honestly, I plop it on and am able to forget all about it which is shocking to me. My son who races motorcross was extremely impressed with the safety features, especially for the price.
