That's why we've created a stress-free return policy. If you purchase an item and it doesn't meet your expectations, we want to know about it, take care of you and give you your money back.

The Fine Print

We love our products and we're happy to take them back - even custom items. We'll happily take back everything from engraved halters to personalized jackets - even embroidered blankets that have been worn (minus the manure, please). But there are a few things we have to restrict returns on (silly federal regulations).

Undergarments
Health regulations require that undergarments (including bras) need to be in new condition (tags and packages intact) in order to be returned. (Even if it wasn't required, do you really want to shop from a store that takes back used undergarments?!)

Saddles
As riders, we know what a big investment a saddle is. That's why we're proud to offer the best Test Ride program in the business. You can keep our Test Ride saddles risk-free for five days, to really make sure you like the fit and the feel. We know that to truly try a saddle, you have to really ride in it. So go ahead and girth it up. Forget about wrapping your stirrup leathers. Try it with or without a saddle pad. Basically, treat it like you already bought it, so you can make sure you really want to. Because when you buy a saddle from us, we want to make sure you love it. Of course, we want our other customers to love their new saddles, too.
That's why we have a Test Ride option for each saddle we carry - so that all of the other saddles can stay in pristine condition, waiting for their new owners. For this reason, if you purchase a saddle outside the Test Ride program, it's still eligible for return, but must be free from any marks or damage.

So that's it. Seriously. Those are all of our "rules." Well, except the most important one - treating our customers the way we want to be treated. So if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do, please call us at 1-800-461-8898 or email CustomerCare@SmartPak.com. We are always happy to help.

Vortex Fit Tips

Watch our fit video for further tips and tricks about this exciting new boot!

The unique contour of the Vortex zipper will take trying tall boots on to a new level.

Entry into the Vortex is like picking up your stirrups.  Instead of using a straight motion like you would with other boots, turn your toe in and allow your heel to slide into the boot with the provided shoe horn.

Place the shoe horn at the top of the leather tongue.  Use the shoe horn against your heel and step down into the boot.  As the foot enters the boot, pull the shoe horn out.

As the zipper zips around the curve of the ankle, it may feel snug a first.  Before trying the boot on, you may want to warm up the stretch gore to get it ready for your leg.  Since we want tall boots to fit very close to the leg, you may need your other hand to guide the leather together to continue to zipper.  Once the stretch gore wears in, you won’t have to do this anymore.

If zipping feels awkward, try putting a shoe string through the zipper tab to pull the zipper up.

Ariat Vortex Tall Boot is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful boot, but made for a very specific leg I've coveted these boots since they came out last year, and finally saved enough money to pull the trigger on purchasing. They're absolutely beautiful in person, and in pictures- no disappointment there. They seem to be high quality, and I've ridden in them a few times. The inside panel is grippy calfskin, and the zipper seems to be nice and heavy duty. The only qualm I have with these boots is the way the calf is cut. Not sure if it's the case for a regular sized calf, but for the full calf at least there is some space up at the top of the boot, enough that I can slide my hand in. Ultimately I'm keeping them (because I'm in love, and won't be showing in them), but it's definitely worth trying them on to make sure they fit correctly. Also, as everyone else will tell you- the calf does run small. I've never been a full size calf in Ariat boots before, but there was no way the regular was going to work for me with these bad boys.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful boot, but different fit than Volant I've purchased the Volant boots from Ariat about 3 or 4 times, and though this boot seemed similar, I was unable to comfortably get my foot into it. The zipper curves around and my high arch made it difficult. I ended up returning the boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed that they did not fit My beautiful pair of Ariat Vortex boots arrived today. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the boots included a pair of stretchers but disappointed to find that the shoe horn was not in the box. The description and the video both tout the shoehorn as included, which I believe it was supposed to be. Nevertheless, I managed to struggle into the right boot. It was a struggle and I almost gave up but knew I needed to try the boots on and not wait for a shoehorn to be obtained. The foot of the boot fit beautifully as well as the ankle and the actual calf (I order 8, short wide, as the measurements indicated short for sure and I had asked about the wide as my calf with socks and breeches was 15). I could put both hands into the top of the boot well past my fingers they were so large at the top. The gap was huge! Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I guess I will need to have custom boots made. The boots are beautiful, have soft leather, the foot was comfortable and the ankle was constructed in such a way that it would have helped me keep my heels down without causing pain on my tall instep. Love the boots, just did not fit, my short from the knees down, well muscular calves.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Zippers Do Not Last I have had these boots for less than a year. The boots are a little big around my leg. However, the zippers have fallen apart on both boots. SmartPak told me to take the boots to be repaired. However, the local boot repair expert said the way the cheap zipper was sewn in he would not be able to cut all of the old zipper out. He would have to leave a piece of the old zipper in because it was sewn in so far down on the boot. The old zipper would probably cause the boot to bulge and probably would press into my ankle. The boot expert repairs a lot of riding boots. He commented that he doesn't understand why Ariat uses such cheap zippers. SmartPak said I have to send them photos and an explanation before they will decide to replace or have fixed. It is a minimum of $75-$100 to repair each zipper on each boot. I am unhappy with both Ariat and SmartPak. The customer service rep was supposed to send me an email so I could submit pictures which has not happened either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST TALL BOOTS EVER These are the most comfortable and easiest to break in tall boots I have ever owned. They fit true to size for me, same size I wear in every other Ariat tall boot I've had (and thats at least 4). The first 2 times I rode in them they seemed super stiff but it was also about 25 degrees out. Once it was a little warmer and I just rode in them they broke in in about 2-3 rides. I have not gotten any heel sores or any other sores from these boots like I usually do. They are a little trickier to get on and off because of the zipper design, but I think as they keep breaking in more and more it will get easier. These are my every day boots and the footbed it soooo comfortable. I could wear them all day. They are on the pricier side but I really think they will last me a long time and will be worth it. They seem to be super high quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool Boot Overall, these are some pretty nice (and expansive) boots. I love the zipper placement, the Spanish top, and the rainbow nitro footbed. However, the rainbow gets scratched and scuffed SUPER easily (I haven't had these boots for very long and it's already pretty destroyed from walking on a well- maintained dirt road) so I would recommend, if you care deeply about the rainbow (like me) then buy some shoe covers to protect them. They are also a little funky to take on and off so I'd recommend using a shoe horn so the leather doesn't get a weird crease. Other than that, these are some pretty sweet boots and I can't wait to show in them!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Some neat, some not so neat These are really fun boots. I love the sneaker bed of the Vortex and Volants, and the different styling of these boots are just neat. However- within one ride, part of my zipper broke. The leather on the top of my left boot looks a little wrinkly. The cool metallic bottoms have also been scuffed up significantly by stirrups. And the sizing was an absolute PAIN to figure out, particularly given how tough these are to get on and off the first few times. I was a full calf in the Volants, and had to size up for these. They're cool boots, but I'm a little sad given how much $$ they were... Still, I'd recommend them!
    Date published: 2017-10-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice upgrades. So comfortable and sporty. I bought these when my Volants didn't hold up. They are like Volants but nicer. Feels like wearing a running shoe. Great flexibility in the ankle-- the cut allows heels down more easily than any other boots I've had. The only unusual thing I found with the sizing is that I'm not usually a 'tall' but the 'regular was too short for me. The 'tall' was just right.
    Date published: 2017-09-21
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ugly Boots I don't know why I thought these boots would be more attractive in person than they are in the picture.... they're not. I'm not sure how Ariat went so far off the mark on this one, when they usually make such a great product. Even if I could get over the restrictive ankle of the boot (I know, I know... new boots are stiff, but the ankles in these take that to a WHOLE new level!) I couldn't believe I'd spent $600 on what basically looks like the cheap therapeutic shoes I bought to wear when I was waitressing. To anyone considering these boots, all I can say is DON'T DO IT! There are so many better Ariat options available.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sizing is off If you are planning on ordering the new Ariat Vortex or Vortex S offset zipper boot, please be aware that the Sizing Guide is off. Following the Guide, I ordered the same size in the Vortex as I do in other Ariat tall boots (9 R/S). The footbed sizing and the height were on-point; however, the calf measurement is way off. Once I got past the extremely narrow ankle area, I could not get the zipper edges to even meet, let alone close. The Vortex is not offered in a Short height that will work for me. I don't find the use of heel lifts to accommodate a too-tall boot to be very effective -- think of it: lifting your heels while attempting to keep your heels down while riding. I also found that, if heel lifts are used temporarily in too tall boots just until the boot drops, the resulting ankle creases are inevitably in the wrong location once the lifts are removed. Other than the inaccuracy of the Sizing Guide, the quality of the leather and workmanship seemed fine. (Styling-wise, I prefer the Vortex S.) I do applaud Ariat's attempts to come up with a tall boot sans rear zipper (due to the resultant pressure along the Achilles tendon). I am disappointed they have limited their sizing options with this one.
