Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for us! I put my horse on SmartItch-Ease early this summer and this is the first time in years she hasn't been covered in scabs from her chest to her nether regions. She's not crazy about the flavor (turmeric) but will eat it when I use a bit of flax oil to get it to stick to her hay pellets. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Success There is sweet itch and then is Bashkir Curly sweet itch (!). Horse (a Bashkir Curly) is new to me and I've never had to deal with sweet itch. It's been quite the learning experience (was hesitant to use steroids). I did a "Hail Mary" and gave this supplement a try and within two weeks she was back to her normal self. She is also on Tri-Hist Granules by Neogen Vet (cetrizine, topicals, baths weren't really working) so not exactly sure which one is doing the trick...or maybe it is this combination. She is not a picky eater so she gobbles everything up. I am beyond thrilled!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not work for us I tried this briefly last year and then again out of desperation this year. My mare got worse after starting this. I don’t think it was the fault of the product, I just think whatever the underlying issue is got worse. She eats it with no issue. She’s been allergy tested and is on allergy shots since the end of March, and last year I treated her like she had neck threadworms. She’s been on antihistamines and steroids with a long acting steroid shot providing the most relief. We’ve seen 5 vets at three different clinics. She gave herself an ear hematoma last year from rubbing and shaking her head. To say I’m desperate for a solution is an understatement. I think this product has some great ingredients so if someone asked me I would suggest they try it even though it didn’t work for us.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unsuccessful in 2 different horses Was worried my picky draft horse wouldn't eat it due to other reviews, but after the first couple days, he was licking his bucket clean! However, to my disappointment, he still rubbed out his mane and tail this season and in the last week managed to cause the collapse of his run in shed from itching so bad. Tried it on our mare last season with no improvement on her itchy belly and bug bites, but I had hoped to see at least some improvement on the horse that was worse off. Will be trying antihistamines at the recommendation of our vet moving forward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made a BIG difference! I started our pony on this a month ago. She has had seasonal allergies since we got her a couple years ago and I finally decided I needed to try something when her eyes started draining and she started itching again. She itches so much she ruins her mane and tail, and her coat has been dull and coarse. I’m blown away by the results after a month! Her eyes have cleared up, her coat is soft and shiny, and her mane and tail are growing because she isn’t itching them off! I take allergy meds for myself and I’d say this works just like that but for our pony! Definitely recommend for seasonal, environmental allergies!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very hard to rate the effectiveness of the product as my Gypsy would not eat it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Won’t eat My horse is the FARTHEST thing from a picky eater. She eats everything. She refuses to touch this. It’s not even the fact it’s a powder I don’t think because she has other powders and she eats those fine. I’ve spent the last couple of days mushing a powder glob together (yes water is added) with dry grain to entice her to eat it. After every barn trip my hands smell like a ramen seasoning packet because I have to feed her by hand. I’ll probably be looking for a refund on this and begin to search for something else for her sensitive skin. Can’t say if it works or not. I can’t get her to eat it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I think it might be working My mare hates spring and summer and is usually so itchy she can't function normally. I started her on this supplement in March and so far it seems to at least be making a slight difference. It's hard to tell the complete story because I moved her to a barn that has much better insect control AND she has a fly sheet this year too. Her skin doesn't seem to be flaking as much and the rate at which she is losing her hair is much slower than in past years. I will know more by mid June when her itchiness really reaches a peak, but so far I think this is an important part of the regimen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing Better for my Itchy Pony My pony, Pumpkin, has been in New England all his 15 years. In Massachusetts, I had him on the SmartBugoff Ultra. He has never had any allergies while up north. 2 years ago, I sent him to Southern Florida for my granddaughter. He wasn't in Florida for more than a week, and he had a bad allergic reaction to fly bites and the southern climate. He would sweat in a fly sheet but Pumpkin did wear a fly mask. He was sneezing and had hives popping up all over him. . I decided to switch him to the SmartItch Ease. What a difference! His skin issues have calmed down, and he just seems much happier! Is coat is dappled and shinny. I happier pony means a happier rider! It is so much nicer for my granddaughter not to worry about Pumpkin's sneezing and pulling her over his head. When she would curry him, he would almost fall down, leaning into her, loving the itch being scratched. While on this product Pumpkin hasn’t been bothered by sweet itch in hot, humid, buggy Southern Florida. No more mane or tail rubbed out and he’s much more comfortable. Pumpkin will continue to be on the SmartItch-Ease in his SmartPaks. It is a Great Supplement! I am super pleased with the results!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Itchy pony My mini pony has been on this for about a month. She is a very itchy pony, no mites or other obvious skin issues but she is always rubbing her tail, shoulders, belly and mane. Started her on this before fly season because she gets worse, and so far the itchiness has reduced. I hope it continues to help through fly season. She gets more hugs now because she smells like garlic bread sticks :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Right Answer for My Red Mare SmartItch Ease has proven to be the magic supplement for my finnicky red OTTB mare. She was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and has historically had violent flares that often make her too uncomfortable to be worked, even with the use of pharmaceuticals. The ingredients of this supplement both support her immune system and help alleviate some of her symptoms during a flare. We have been on this supplement for ~1 year now (I cut the dose in half for the bug-free months rather than following the Equinox program because she is a bit delicate), and I can 100% honestly say that it has made all the difference in her health. Her Lyme flares have been significantly milder, her skin is much less sensitive, and we had ZERO hives or insect bite skin sensitivities last summer/fall! She is generally a picky eater, but she eats this right up (we call it her Thai food!).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from ItchEase I bought ItchEase for my Friesian gelding hoping to have a good supplement to help him with his Florida summer allergies, chewing & rubbing. I started the product on a Sunday & by Saturday, he had diarrhea. We stopped it & the diarrhea went away. So I never got the chance to see if ItchEase would help my horse. It is not the product for him but hear it helps a lot of other horses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for all ages I used this on a friesian that was scratching his mane out, a yearling appy colt that kept scratching his tail on the stall wall and another yearling appy filly that had watery eyes. All three had major improvements within a week and stopped their behaviors/issues in a month. I put them all on this every spring. It works! Only con, wish it was a pellet. Hate the powder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Less itching I bought this 2 months ago and my horse has definitely been less itchy yet still has dandruff to mane and tail. So I started her on rice bran oil a month ago. This combo seems to be helping as she is not going crazy itching herself. She has a better coat so far but it’s also getting colder out and it’s been too cold to wash her lately, hoping for a warm day to use some head & shoulders shampoo/conditioner. I know this has helped some of my friends horses, just gotta give it time. She didn’t like it at first so it took her a couple days to be enthusiastic about her food but then she was fine. I really like the auto ship feature as I board so I don’t see my supply reserve on a daily basis.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My horse is not eating this very well I had my horse on Ultra Bug Off, which helped him some, but he was still itchy, so I decided to try this. It is a powder instead of pellets and unfortunately he does not eat it as well. It is added to his breakfast and sometimes there is some left in his bucket at lunch. We are continuing to try it and see if he will start eating it better, so we can see if there is an improvement, but unfortunately at this point I can't see a huge difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked well for my mare’s skin My mare gets these welts from bugs (I wish I would have taken a picture of the bumps), but when I put her on this supplement the welts go down significantly. It smells really good and she licks her bowl clean. I do mix it with a little water

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I think it’s helping my itchy boy!!! This is the second month I’ve tried Smart Itch for my gelding who is not having a fun summer because of all the flies here in Arizona. I think it’s helping him, along with using a fly sheet and giving him Benadryl twice a day. I’m pretty pleased with the difference it’s making!
Date published: 2021-09-20
Rated 2 out of 5 by from No improvement I’ve been feeding the smart itch product for 3 months. I have not seen any improvements. The welts are the same. The only thing that works is a fly sheet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thank you!! I’ve been struggling for years to get my mustang to stop destroying his mane/tail every late spring/summer. I’ve thought it was grooming products, a dirty sheath, worms, dry skin, braids causing irritation etc. He literally ripped out about 3/4 of his luxurious tail and I finally decided to try this. Boom. NO ITCH. I’m so pleased. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stops the Itch I have an Arabian and we live in South Texas. The bugs (mosquitoes/flies) have been horrible this summer and her neck and legs are all raw an she scratches all day. I started this supplement 2 weeks ago and her sores are healing up. She still scratches some but the improvement to her coat is amazing. Thanks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Takes awhile, but it works! I have an 11 year old mare that has suffered from sweet itch since she was a yearling. I have tried dozens of supplements, sprays and sheets over the years to no avail, until this stuff. It's spendy, but I was still desperately searching for a solution, so I gave it a try. I will say, the whole "picky eater approved" is crap, my mare is SO picky and I knew that would mean nothing. She refused her feed for a week, until I made a concoction of molasses, corn oil, ground flax and water to mix everything together. Now she gobbles it up. While she is still itchy, it is nowhere near as bad, her coat is glowing and she is not attracting so many bugs compared to my other horses. It's still early in the game, but this is marked improvement sooner than anything else I've tried. I'm going to continue it through this season and will post another review in the fall.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Took out the quercitin I’ve used this for two years with great results but this year they removed the most important ingredient quercitin. Now I get it the price of quercitin went very high but to do it with no notice I thought was a bit sketch. The other ingredients are still good but quercitin is a proven antihistamine and super effective at sweet itch. I’m still using Smart Itch for now because there are other good ingredients in it but I bought my own quercitin to top dress. Just not sure I will need this supplement after testing how just quercitin works. The previous formula did work very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more itching! SmartPak Smart Itch-Ease has helped my pony! He's not rubbing his tail and mane bare and bloodied nor his ears into sore bloody messes. This product has saved my sanity this year!! I still use fly sprays, fly masks with ears and stall every early evening when biting bugs are at their worst. Also bathe at least two times a week. I truly believe the SmartPak Smart Itch-ease is giving him the extra boost that's making it all work. Plus his hair is so shiny and healthy! And he eats it up, mixed into a scoop of chopped hay. Thank you for an excellent product! Worth every penny!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Results I started feeding this to my paint mare in February and 4.5 months later and a winter shed later and there are no noticeable results. Fly season has begun and there are just as many flies swarming her as all of the other horses on the property. Her skin is still just as itchy as it was prior to the use of this supplement. A tip for anyone interested in trying it for your horse, it does have a "unique" smell to it but I found mixing it with water and their grain for a couple weeks gets them accustomed to it and then it can be fed without the water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works! We have tried everything for Heathcliff. He was actually causing open sores from rubbing! We have been on this supplement for 30 days...it’s a miracle! His sores have healed & he is back to being his awesome self again! Thanks SmartPak!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My Horse Wouldn't Eat It I wish my horse would have eaten this, as it sounded perfect for him! But unfortunately he wouldn't touch it. He is a bit of a picky eater, so it may work great for others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great for us! I found this last summer after a horse at my boarding barn broke out from bug bites within a month it helped him a lot we also fed bug off ultra pellets as well. After about a month his skin was less inflamed and starting to heal nicely cannot recommend this product enough. It has a strange smell but good the horse is a rather picky eater so it did take us some time to get him use to it but he did get up to the full dose in only a week
