SmartDark & Handsome helps bring out a deep, dark shine in black, bay, and brown coats. This unique formula provides a targeted combination of ingredients specifically designed to help horses maintain their most beautiful coat color. Flaxseed serves as a high-quality source of omega 3 fatty acids, which support healthy skin and a shiny coat. Paprika, a spice rich in beta carotene and other antioxidants, supports a deep, rich coat color. Finally, 5 mg of biotin and minerals such as copper and zinc support a healthy, resilient haircoat. Plus, it contains fenugreek for a delicious flavor and aroma your horse will love! Probably one of the best "Darkening" supplements
I've had my horse on Smartflax since September but normally he gets pretty bleached out in the summer. Figured I would try Smart Dark & Handsome since the price wasn't much different. I clipped my horse in mid November and then clipped him again at the end of march. The difference was night and day! I will for sure continue using this product as long as he keeps eating it. I have noticed the past 2 weeks he's been a little picky about it. If this came Pelleted it for sure would be all eaten.

My horse has been on this for about three months now. I haven’t noticed his coat darken much but it is definitely super shiny however he has kind of stopped shedding and his coat is still on the longer side. I’m incorporating another supplement to hopefully darken him and help him shed. It also has helped bring out his shine but not so much on the darkening.

Works well, take a while.
I have been feeding this supplement to my black bay 17 year old tb gelding for about two years now. I decided to feed to help impove coat quality and overall nutrition. I continued with the supplement with only slightly different results as time went on, I was satisfied but not over excited with the product. However as his new winter coat came in following this summer, which had not bleached nearly as much this year, was outstandingly darker. I am thoroughly happy with how his coat has now improved with the supplement being in his system for an apparently adequate amount of time to make a difference.

It works!
We are so happy with the Smart Dark. We saw results within the first 5 days! Other products took at least a month. The best thing we’re the compliments on the health and her vibrant coat.

This stuff is MAGIC
My pony is a black Friesian x QH. He used to be out in pasture all day in the summer and so his coat was sun bleached and he looked brown. I bought this a month ago and wasn’t really expecting much of a difference. I have been blown away by the results! He is back to being black

Does what it says
I bought an underweight spotted draft horse in August. She is registered as black and white but was more of a bay & white. I started her on this supplement about a week after I got her on August 2. She is definitely darker in the 7 weeks she has been on the supplement. I will continue to use this product.

Holy cow this stuff WORKS
Two weeks after starting the supplement my beautiful black horse turned back to black! Wow! Everyone at the barn has commented on how healthy and shiny his coat is - even my a-circuit trainer asked what he’s on so she could get her dark horses on it.

Great supplement
I have used many coat darkening supplements and this one worked well and the horses eat it with no problem. I would recommend this product. The cost is more reasonable as well.

Hot Hawaii Sun is no match
my horses have been on this supplement for a year after moving to Hawaii. they're on daily pasture, and if you haven't been to Hawaii before, it has a reputation of being sunny and hot all the time. it is! both my horses' coats look amazing. you can see sun damage in their manes and tails from older hair, but their coats are INCREDIBLE! if you haven't been impressed with this supplement, I'd guess its because you haven't had them on it long enough to shed/regrow their coat. stick with it, it works.

Didn't do squat..period

Dark and handsome not so dark
I’m not sure if this may have worked on my black horse if I had started it sooner. He was already starting to bleach from the sun. he didn’t get any lighter, but I also started putting a fly sheet on him , too. I wish it was a pelleted also, because the powder is so fine, I’m not sure he is getting it all. I may try again next summer sooner.

Might work for other horses?
I started this before my horse started fading at all and noticed no change in his coat. He faded out much faster than he did the previous summer on Platinum. I used up a smaller bag and had already opened a new bag when we had to stop because it was suspected that it was exasperating current/causing new ulcers. After some research I found this was more common with paprika than I realized. Not only did I waste more than half a bag but I had already mixed it into his supplement cups with his other supplement, so I wasted that too. I know other horses it has worked for though, so maybe it really depends on the horse?

I think it works well!
Started using this with my horse when I bought him earlier this year. I wasn’t quite sure if he was officially “black” or not but this supplement paired with a UV fly sheet has kept him quite dark. The shine in his coat is unbelievable as well!

Seemed to be working but still faded
My horse was doing really well on this supplement initially but it’s only June and he’s already fading out pretty badly. He’s never gone bay quite this early in the year before. He usually would stay black for a little while longer.

Love it and my horse too!
Started this a couple months ago and it really darkened him up. Usually by this time of year he would turn from black to a burnt red... instead he turned more like a dark bay. Also, brought out a shine! Love the product and so does my horse!

Great product
Started feeding to my Friesian cross mare on 24 hour turn out. Her coat has never been this shiny and healthy. She usually bleaches to a dark bay color every year but she is staying dark so far! My farrier has even noticed by commenting on how much stronger her hooves are since being on the supplement.

Holy Dapples Batman!
I started this 3 months ago and my boy hasn’t looked this good in years! He certainly hasn’t dappled in 5 years or more, especially not to this level! He gets tons of complements at the barn for how sleek and shiny he looks, and how gorgeous his dappled are. Couldn’t be happier!!

Didn’t Work
I bought this because my mostly black horse was fading. I have almost used the entire tub and have not seen any results. Plus my horse doesn’t like the taste. I stopped my next shipment and will not buy again.

It works!
I bought this for my black Fell pony and it's actually made a difference. He is on pasture 24/7 and has gotten really sun bleached. I have noticed quite a difference in 1½ months. He is definitely darker and he loves the taste (and he's picky). I'm thrilled with the results!

Amazing results!
I’ve had my mare on this since last summer and I had planned to keep her on it only in the summer months as she bleach's out in the California sun. I got immediate results and the shine was incredible not only her black but her white too!

Seems to make a real difference
I have been feeding this to three different black horses, two of them for over a year. One of them is an Andalusian mare that came to me in poor condition, and her coat quality improved but she never got really black. The other two, an Irish Draught stallion, and a Paint x Percheron mare, are really black and their coats are noticeably shiny even in winter. I get compliments on their coats. All the horses happily eat the supplement in their soaked beet pulp dinner. I would not keep buying this if I did not see results.

So Much Improvement!
I started my Friesian mare on SmartDark in the middle of July, at the height of the sun and heat for my area. Due to her particular body shape, I have not found a fly sheet that fits extraordinarily well without massive rubs. She does not like to be stalled so she lives outside full time with access to a large run in and is in moderate work 2-3x a week. Her coat was extremely faded, although soft and moderately shiny and was developing nice muscling. She sweats, but not a ton, and was always sponged or hosed down after work. After putting her on SmartDark I wasn’t sure what to expect but I surely did not expect the results that I’ve gotten! While I am not sure if it is due to her fall coat starting to come in or the supplement, her color has darkened a ton and has gotten almost blinding it is so shiny. Dirt does not stick to her and her mane and tail feel a bit softer and are growing in quicker. Too early to talk about whether it has helped her feet. What has impressed me most is the muscle gain that this has helped her get. Before SmartDark she was on TriAmino to help with muscle development, but I took her off of it when adding SmartDark and I have seen more improvement in her muscles with SmartDark in the last two months than I did in many months on the TriAmino without a change in her exercise routine. The lighting isn’t the best in one photo, but you can definitely see a difference in the second (hooves are shiny from conditioner in the second). Thanks SmartPak for such a wonderful product that does break the bank!

So far so good!
Only gave a rating of good because I have only used for about 6 weeks so too soon to tell how much it will help with fading but so far it seems to be helping. My boy is not finicky but does not care for the taste even though I add it to his daily bucket.

Delivers as promised
Using this for about 3 months. Dark Bay Mustangs colors deepened wonderfully and great shine. I mix with a little bran mash and a few alfalfa cubes because he didn’t like the cayenne, but he eats it with this mixture no problem
