Simple, Stomach-Friendly Dog Treats

Posted on: October 24, 2025 by Gina Fitch

Autumn is, without a doubt, my favorite season. I love everything about it—the vibrant colors, the crisp air, the cozy scents, and yes, the blessed absence of buzzing insects. There’s just something about the smell of fall that fills me with comfort and creativity.

This year, that inspiration led me to the kitchen—not for myself, but for my Bernese Mountain Dog, Argos.

Argos has a very sensitive stomach, so I’m always cautious about what I feed him. While he’ll happily eat just about anything we offer, not everything agrees with him. More than once, I’ve regretted giving him a treat that didn’t sit well, and it’s truly heartbreaking to see him uncomfortable.

Because of his dietary sensitivities, I’ve started making homemade treats tailored just for him. I keep the recipes as simple and wholesome as possible, to give him the best chance of enjoying them without issue.

The latest batch, a no-bake pumpkin dog treat, was a big hit. Not only did Argos love them, but I’m happy (and relieved!) to say they were gentle on his stomach, too.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups oats
  • 1 –1 ½ cup pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup peanut butter Xylitol-free peanut butter
  • ¼ cup Honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Small cubed apple pieces (to place on top for garnish if desired)

Steps:

  1. After measuring out all your ingredients, add them to a large mixing bowl. Stir until everything is thoroughly combined and the mixture holds together nicely.

  2. Next, scoop out portions of the mixture and shape them however you like. I went with simple ball-shaped treats—and got a little creative by attempting crescent moons. Let’s just say I’m thankful Argos doesn’t judge based on appearance!

  3. Place your shaped treats on a parchment-lined baking sheet, then pop them into the refrigerator to chill for a few hours or overnight.

  4. Once they’ve firmed up, transfer them to airtight glass containers. They’ll keep well for several days, making treat time easy and stress-free!
