Get to Know Kimchi
- SmartPaker: Macaire F.
- Department: SmartBarn Services
- Horse: Kimchi, 18yo Australian Paint Horse
- Discipline: Pasture Puff
Kimchi and I first met while touring with Cavalia in Asia. I was working as a groom, spending my days getting the horses show-ready, warming them up before performances, and cooling them down afterward. My first tour city was Taipei, Taiwan, which also happened to be Kimchi’s second stop on the show.
Before joining Cavalia, Kimchi was born and raised in New South Wales, Australia, where he was originally started as an endurance horse. He was later purchased as a trick-riding prospect, though it quickly became clear that the traveling show life wasn’t quite suited for him. I would always advocate for him and made it clear that I was interested in adopting him whenever they were ready.
Two years after I met him and on my very last day working with the show in Irvine, CA, they told me he was retiring and that he was mine if I wanted. The moment they offered him to me will forever be one of the most memorable days of my life. Almost ten years later, and Kimchi is still thriving and living his best life in retirement!

SmartDigest Ultra
A healthy hindgut is the foundation of a healthy horse, which is why Kimchi has been on SmartDigest Ultra for so many years. SmartDigest Ultra helps manage digestive stress and promote healthy immune function, and it comes in powder or pellets which is great for horses who may prefer one over the other! Another major perk is that it is one of SmartPak’s ColiCare Eligible Products. ColiCare is a colic surgery reimbursement program which offers up to $15,000 if Kimchi were to experience a colic episode requiring surgery. ColiCare provides peace of mind and is one of the biggest reasons this supplement will always stay in Kimchi’s SmartPak.
CocoHoof Pellets
CocoHoof™ Pellets is hands down my favorite hoof supplement! Each serving provides 20 mg of biotin, plus omegas, zinc, copper, manganese, and amino acids. I love that it’s a well-balanced, cost-effective option that is perfect for owners who want strong hoof and skin support without breaking the bank. Because Kimchi is flat-footed, quality hoof support is essential.
SmartOmega 3 & E
Living in Southern California means my horses don’t have access to fresh pasture. Without that lush green grass, they miss out on one of the richest natural sources of vitamin E. Since vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant, supplementation is important for supporting normal muscle and immune function when a horse isn’t getting sufficient amounts in their diet. SmartOmega 3 & E™ Ultra delivers both omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E, supporting Kimchi’s overall wellness from the inside out.
