Very nice saddle, good value
Purchased this saddle through Smartpak's generous trial saddle program. The saddle was very well made and the leather and synthetic components worked very well together and were of good quality. I have owned a T4 saddle for several years so I can attest that these saddles are quite durable; my T4 is still as nice as the day I bought it. The T8 with its leather additions is a very nice saddle, with especially good quality for its cost. Unfortunately this T8 didn't ft my mare so I had to return it.

Beautiful saddle
A saddle fitter recommended this saddle for my old OTTB with high withers and a poor topline. It seems to fit him well and it's comfortable enough for me. I love the leather/synthetic hybrid- it looks like an expensive all leather saddle, but it's reasonably priced. My only complaint is that I found the gullets difficult to change - I had a very hard time putting the saddle back together after putting in a different gullet. The one side just didn't want to go in correctly for the longest time. It also comes with very little information on changing the gullet or adjusting the billets, athough I found a video online about the gullet (that didn't really help with my issue).

A nice saddle for the money but some flaws
This is a two part review of this purchase of this saddle, which I purchased through the test ride program. First, the saddle: it was reasonably well made for the price. I bought off the recommendation from a saddle fitter to deal with my thoroughbred. He does not have high withers, but rather is wide just after his withers. The saddle ended up fitting him well and he was very comfortable in it. It is of good quality for a synthetic saddle, but as I was coming from a buffalo leather upper end saddle, it did not make my heart sing when I opened the box. It was just okay. It rode comfortably enough. The test saddle I received had chunks of material missing from the knee blocks as well as cracking of the material on the underside of the cantle, which could have been because of the shipping process being more extensive for a test saddle. But it made me worry about how the saddle would hold up for constant use. The biggest complaint I had about the saddle was the process it took to change out the gullet. I have had other saddles that I changed the gullet out and it was not nearly as frustrating as this one. My husband and I got so frustrated we had to take turns. It is a process to get it off and then back together, so I would not buy this saddle if you anticipated having to do that on any frequent basis. We did it twice because I had to return the saddle with the original gullet and while the second time was easier, it still took almost 30 minutes and some swearing. My second comment in this review is on the test ride process. It is very nice to have that ability to try a saddle and return it if you don't like it. In this case, you also have the option of returning the test saddle and then getting an actual new saddle if you liked the test saddle. This is what I chose because the company made it sound easy and the test ride saddle I received had some dings I didn't want to pay full price for. What they didn't say was that when you return the test saddle, it has to go through a formal returns process in their returns department and that has taken long enough that I will be without a saddle for two weeks once it gets back to me. So don't use the program and expect the prompt shipping of the new saddle from SmartPak. Which is very out of character for this company that normally has excellent customer service. And they would not move up the process when I explained I needed the saddle for scheduled clinic and saddle fitter. But it works well to know if you need to test ride, just not if you need a saddle promptly.

Seriously in love with this saddle
I'm new to dressage, making the move from H/J and did not want to invest a ton into a new saddle. After reading every review I could find and hearing some good things from those who have had them I purchased one. Even though my TB doesn't have a super high wither I purchased the hw model and it fits him wonderfully. I find it allot more comfortable then a few others I tried and it looks really nice too!

Nothing like a Wintec...
The overall quality of this hybrid synthetic saddle is guaranteed to surprise the most skeptical DQ out there. The seat, knee roll, and trim are an extremely high quality leather, far beyond what most manufacturers use. The synthetic parts, well, you just don't see or feel them. For the horse, the High Withers version really gets the clearance around the spinal/bony area of shark-finned ponies like mine. My finicky gelding immediately put his head down and went to work with absolutely no drama. For the rider, the seat is amazingly comfortable, and that perfect blend of support without feeling forced into any position. I'd say it runs a tad large in seat size. If you are a true 17.5 or 18, go with your regular size. I'm right on the verge of 17.5 to 18 and went with the 18. I probably should have gone with the 17.5 in this case, but I'm not sending it back...

The answer for saddle fit issues on a budget.
I haven't owned or ridden in this saddle long enough to give it an accurate rating. However, I trialed the saddle and ultimately bought it for my shark-finned TB. I admit to being a "snob" and not wanting to go synthetic, but there was no way I could afford (or justify) custom for the riding we do these days. I was very pleasantly surprised at how comfortable this saddle was to sit in when I trialed it. Has a nice wide channel for spine clearance and being able to adjust the front billet has been very helpful. My TB has some special conformation issues, which means no saddle will fit him perfectly, but this high wither model coupled with the narrow/medium gullet and a shim-able ThinLine pad have made him so much more comfortable at what I feel is a very reasonable expense. I have very high hopes that with this saddle we can finally get back to enjoying riding again.

worth every penny - the universal saddle that fits
I've owned this saddle for several years. It is the best little saddle out there if you can't afford all the expensive ones! It's fits a multitude of horses, without a lot of fuss, is super comfy to sit in right off the bat and is very affordable! I've used it in the show ring, on the trail, for lessons, whatever I need. What more do you want? This saddle fits horses with high withers, tubby horses, weird backed horses and more. Don't hesitate to purchase this. Mine has been around the barn and back! Super easy to clean and with a little synthetic cleaner, looks just perfect to go right into the show ring!

Great Saddle!
I have had this saddle for about two weeks and am really enjoying it. I have gone through countless amounts of saddles trying to find just one that fits my high withered thoroughbred, but the the Thorowgood High Wither Dressage saddle really works. The interchangeable gullet system is great and my horse is no longer cranky when I go to saddle her up. The best part is that is looks and feels like a higher quality saddle, but for a fraction of the price. If your looking for a saddle that is not going to break the bank and actually fits, I highly recommend this one.

works for high withers
I've been looking for a saddle that doesn't sit on my thoroughbred's withers, and this one finally worked. I had previously tried and older county, a new Toulouse, and a couple other used saddles. My mare is on the wide side of medium, and the medium tree fits her well.
