Why We Love This
The Stubben Equi-Soft Girth is a revolutionary answer to girthing discomfort. While everyone has spent significant time perfecting saddle design, little has been done to improve the girth over the centuries. The root cause of discomfort is the constriction caused by girthing which reduces circulation and decreases the range of motion of underlying musculature.
The Equi-Soft girth, when properly adjusted, effectively deals with the constriction by giving in all directions and markedly reducing the tension. This frees the underlying musculature, allows better circulation, and decreases the restriction of motion of the gut. As respiration is enhanced and the horse experiences less discomfort, pulse rate has been shown to be reduced during exercise. Since the muscles are less restricted, lateral flexibility is enhanced as well as the horse’s ability to employ the external obliques, serratus and other abdominal muscles necessary to support the topline. This is manifested in greater extension of the foreleg and more active employment of the hind quarters.

Does what it claims
Immediate difference on a horse that came to me VERY girthy. Still some habit reactions at first but has improved immensely. Noticeable difference under saddle as well. Also loved by another of my horses that is just very sensitive.
Elastic has stretched out a bit after about 3 months. Holding up fairly well, keepers are worthless though. They need to re-evaluate that part of the design.

Really works!!
My horse had a girth sore from his old girth.. I tried this one and it lived up to the hype! Less pressure to keep saddle stable resulting in freer movement! Try it and see!

Works for us!
It really works well for the 14.3 hand Lusitano pictured below. His belly is a "touch" round, no withers, and the horse can spin on a dime. * the saddle does not roll * easy to clean * minimal amount leather between me and him * and I really like how he has freedom right behind the elbow. I had a total saddle fit girth and it was ok, but this one hugs his round belly more evenly.

Good for girthy horses, get the fleece!
I bought this girth after talking to a Grand Prix rider at a recent horse show. It looked so flexible and the rider indicated that her horse's shoulders moved more freely with this girth. My horse is girthy and he does not resent this girth being put on. I purchased the black leather girth but I noticed rubs in his armpits within two rides. It appears that the back of his elbow was rubbing the topmost part of the girth. I will be exchanging it for the fleece-lined version.

Guilt Free
I always felt a bit guilty when I would cinch up my horses girth when tacking up. I usually put it a bit too loose and my trainer would tell me to tighten it. Now I feel like if my very broad 1500 lb. 17.3 guy needs a really deep breath he can take one! I do feel that it is giving him much more comfort, especially on these warmer days.

Wow! Well worth the price!
I bought this girth based on the reviews. I had been looking for a girth that my ottb wasn’t sensitive to. I have tried several including the TSF shoulder relief girth and he pinned his ears to all except this one. From the first time I put it on him he has loved it! He moves better than I ever imagined and there has been no saddle slippage! Super happy and it is well worth the money many times over!! Thank you Stubben for designing such a phenomenal product!!

Yes! Worth every penny!
I bought this girth awhile back and returned it because we actually needed a new saddle. Once the saddle issue was resolved and broken in and refitted, I went ahead and re-ordered this fabulous girth. My horse is a PRE and has a very wide chest - this girth allows him full freedom and fits his sternum area - believe me I have tried all the anatomical girths made and this girth fits the bill! No bulk at the leg and comfort for my hard working horse! His walk has dramatically improved- of course due to a great saddle and saddle fitter and my Stubben girth. Best!

Expensive, weirdly-shaped, but worth it.
FINALLY, not a single flinch or restless step when the girth goes on. And let me tell you, I've tried them all -- leather, fleece, neoprene, 100% mohair, 100% elastic, ergonomic, ergonomic with an expensive custom sheepskin cover... Some girths have been awful, some have been just okay, but only this one gets no reaction from my fussy, ulcer-prone, mare, who's now happy as a clam and begging for carrots as she's tacked-up. Bonus: the saddle stays put - I was worried about sliding, but we're not having any problems.

Great Girth
A bit pricey, but figured with the great return policy Smartpak has it was worth a try. My horse really moves very nicely in it, not a lot leather blocking him. Goes on easy would be interesting to see if the buclkes had rollers, but don't find it to be an issue. Worth a try for sure if you want not a lot of girth on the sides blocking your leg and something flexiable for your horse.

I tried the Stübben Equi-Soft girth and found it to have both good and bad features. First, the good features. It is very stretchy and my horse was not as girthy when I tightened it. It seemed comfortable to him and he worked well in it. Bad features are that the keepers are so small that you couldn’t use them. I couldn’t get the billets thru them before I mounted. So, if you’re on your horse and wanted to tighten the girth while riding, you certainly couldn’t put them in. For the money that you pay for this girth, I would expect it to have keepers that you could use.

Fantastic Girth - Worth the Price!
I was a little skeptical about this style of girth and the hefty price tag, but with SmartPak's great return policy I figured I'd give it a try. All it took was one ride for my horse to tell me that this is the perfect girth for him! Even on the cross-ties, he responded immediately to the nice stretch on both sides of the girth. Once I got on him, he was happy through his warmup and was much more fluid in his lateral work throughout our whole ride. I've used the Total Saddle Fit dressage girth (too much saddle slippage), the Wintec Elastic girth (again, saddle slippage), and most recently the Dressage Connection Sternum Relief girth (which he did well in). However, once I tried this Stubben girth it was clear that this is the one for my horse. This girth, coupled with the LeMieux X Grip Twin Sided Dressage Pad (Smartpak, please start carrying this excellent brand!), keep my saddle centered and allow my horse super shoulder movement. Above all, he seems happier in his work, which is the most important thing. I highly recommend this product!
(PS - I can't speak to durability, but other Stubben products hold up well so I assume this will, also.)

Worth Every Penny
Splurged on the girth when I bought my Stubbben 1894 from Smartpak. I liked the concept, and I have a horse that hates all girths (yes, I have tried them all), and is routinely fussy while tacking up (don't worry, he has a vet for a daddy and an on-call chiropractor AND body-worker AND saddle-fitter. He's very spoiled and he knows it). Well, if I didn't see the change myself, I wouldn't have believed it. From the very first moment the girth touched him, all of the drama disappeared. He LOVES this girth, and doesn't even flick an ear now when being saddled. Also, just to note, the saddle and pad(s) stay completely put with this girth. So no worries about it being too shifty or unstable. It is really remarkable...

Immediately felt a difference!
The concept and design of this girth is excellent- I was hesitant at the price, but went ahead and purchased bc I have a custom saddle that unfortunately gets pulled forward and causes my horses left shoulder to be sore - and I do believe that this type of girth innovation is spot on in terms of allowing the horse more freedom. How would you like to do an entire workout with a super tight inflexible belt across your sternum?
The girth did not keep my saddle from slipping forward - BUT I felt the difference immediately at the walk and basically all three gaits - what I also noted was I felt the difference in the bottom of my feet as well - like we were more stable as a unit. Unfortunately I did send it back as much as I hated to because of the slipping issue - which has nothing to do with the quality and performance of this girth. Also something to note: the black girth does not come with sheepskin- but is the same price. I found that to be slightly annoying, BUT again - the thinking around the comfort of the horse and girth technology is right on. Can't speak on the durability, but it seemed to be a high quality product.

Excellent Product
Bought this girth a month ago during one of the SmartPak sales. I had the opportunity to try one out first, otherwise the cost and look would not have interested me. I could not ignore the immediate difference in the way my horses moved. It gives them such freedom and comfort. Also the way it is designed it keeps the saddle in place with even pull on both sides. After trying the one I purchased other riders have purchased one as well and love it just as much.
