My horse has the Ultimate line in a sheet and light turnout with a detached sheet hood, a medium combo neck, and a heavy combo neck. I love the 10-year warranty and have no complaints with the quality or fit! The combo neck did rub out my horse’s mane, and I wish the tail flap was longer and didn’t stick almost straight out.

Warranty = Great, Quality Control = Not So Great
Love the warranty on these blankets, and recently had to trade in my blanket to get a new one. The process did leave me without a blanket for about 5 weeks, and unfortunately the new blanket does have some quality control issues. Hardware to attach one of the belly straps was sewn on backwards, so it sticks out from the blanket and is hard to use (and hopefully doesn't dig into my horse when he tries to lay down). One of the leg straps was sewn together twisted, and while not a massive issue, it's not great. Without the issues, the blanket is a pretty good fit especially for wider draft cross types, and is a decently hardy blanket that looks nice on. SmartPak customer service is great, just wish the replacement blanket didn't have quality control issues and was received a little sooner.

great quality
I purchased this blanket a year ago and it has held up very well. My only observation is the neck portion is kind of snug because it is one piece neck and blanket design. The neck pieces that are clipped on provides more movement by the neck rug. As a result of the frigid winter we have experienced in Maryland at times, my horse has worn this more and for longer periods of time. As a result his mane has thinned in several places which has not been a problem in previous years. Believe me I love SmartPak blankets, just my observation re this design.

Wonderfull quality!!
I am in love with this blanket! I bought this a few months ago for my thoroughbred and I am so pleased with the quality. I love the extra Velcro around the neck of the hood so it keeps everything in place and keeps him nice and toasty. The front closure is easy to use and the leg straps are great quality. I’ve seen other blankets where the leg straps stretch out too much. I would highly recommend this to a friend!

Great blanket for my TB
It’s snowing and cold in Colorado. My 26 yr old TB has Cushings and other issues. He’s been a companion horse since he was 10. He needs the extra warmth and this blanket is awesome. He’s in a field with my Norwegian Fjords. One of which loves to pull the hood off the previous blanket. He then hauls it over to the water trough and dunks it in. It’s a 400 gm so it is quickly soaked and rests on the bottom. It hurts my back yo pull it out!!! Thus the need for this combo blanket! It’s perfect. Stays on nicely without twisting and turning and best of all my big 17.2 TB stay cozy warm and dry. Thank you SmartPak!!!

Neck straps WAY too tight when grazing
This blanket is an amazing concept, and I truly hope that SmartPak keeps it around but makes changes to the fit and style. The return policy is wonderful, the ballistic nylon fabric is the absolute best (truly unparalleled in terms of strength) and the blanket is also beautiful. Unfortunately, my issues with poor fit and the fact that it got damaged after only a few wears were why I sent it back. Fit-wise, the blanket *appeared* to be a perfect fit when my horse would stand with his head upright in the cross ties. But when his head was lowered to graze, the neck straps became way, WAY too tight to the point where I was concerned about my horse eating anything off the ground with this on. I had never had this problem before on other blankets. The fit at the withers was also too tight when my horse lowered his head. FYI: my horse is a warmblood, with broad shoulders, and I got one size up from our normal size as recommended. If your horse has a lower set neck and is broad, then please beware!! Damage wise, my horse came inside one afternoon with both upper neck staps ripped off. (But just the straps- The ballistic nylon was still perfectly intact and looked brand new, which is a testimony to its strength).
Smartpak: In my opinion, the perfect change to the fit of this blanket would be to make it a detachable neck that VELCRO's on to the rest of the blanket. (Not one that clips on!). A detachable hood would help release some of the wither pressure that occurs when horses graze, since it would not be one piece of fabric from head to tail. The neck straps also need to be adjusted greatly so that they are not tight on the horse's esophagus when the head is lowered to graze. The little chest cover that prevents cold air from coming into the blanket via the neck cover is phenomenal, and should stay in future designs. This feature is actually what drew me to this blanket in the first place. Please make this is a ballistic nylon detachable neck!

Extremely durable!
My thoroughbred mare rips and destroys everything, I’m not sure if it’s her or her friends but she’s been wearing this blanket for over a month and so far it’s in great shape- absolutely filthy but it’s still altogether and that’s what I care about.

I like the material
My horse managed to damage his blanket within a week of getting it. I like the blankets material. My only dislikes about the product is that the chest area is too big for him.. and leaves it kind of opened. Also when I received the second blanket I did not receive to leg straps.. which is annoying. I am only blanket number 9 this season (not just from smartpak) and just don't feel like hassling them for a strap missing.

The perfect blanket search is finally over!
If you are looking for a great line of blankets for your horse, look no further: I seriously cannot recommend this product enough! The quality is excellent and they fit both my horses extremely well, but truly that warranty is a lifesaver. When my gelding decided to turn his blanket into confetti, Smartpak got me a new blanket in the mail right away. My entire barn is now a converted and every horse is frocked in one Ultimate or another. Worth the money 100%, this is the only blanket I will by from now on.

Indestructible!
My horse is a professional blanket destroyer. She can rip up a fly sheet in a week. With that being said, she has had this blanket on for a little less than 2 months now and there is not a scratch or pull on it! If I gave it a wash, it would look brand new. This blanket is outstanding quality and well worth the price.

Great coverage
This blanket is well made and has great coverage on my broad-chested pony. I've only had it for a month so I can't vouch for its durability but so far so good. My only minor gripe is the number of fastenings which take some time to manage but on the plus side, they do provide a secure fit!

Tough blanket
I have 5 young TBs in a turnout, they play a lot. Normally I have to buy 1 new blanket every year.
So far they are holding up good and if they break I’ll get a new one. It’s a peace of mind for me and I save money in the long run

Hands down the best!
I easily have a dozen blankets for each of my horses-Shires, Weatherbeeta, Schneiders, Kensington, you name it- but this blanket provides superior coverage & is exceptionally well-made! There are no gaps around the throat latch or poll or in the chest. The blanket doesn’t rub or shift to the side. It is now our favorite and I just ordered more!

Fits my Arabian well
My high withered , large-for-an-Arabian Arabian is 1175 pounds and hard to fit. This blanket doesn’t shift and the high neck keeps him cozy. I bought 2. He’s 21 and gonna sail into spring in these.

wind, leak & seep proof
I've never written a review about anything before, but this blanket is a Godsend!. I can leave my 32 yr old Arabian (who doesn't grow much winter coat anyway) outside with the young guys here in windy northern Illinois while I'm at work. I don't have to hope he stays in the lean-to, or worry about the disaster that snow or sleet blowing under his blanket could be - Nothing can creep in there thanks to thoughtful features like the fleece trimmed attached hood that goes all the way to the jowls & ears and generous velcro flap system that seals the bottom of hood- meets- blanket area no matter the horse's build.

Great so far
My Friesian mare lives outside full time and is very easy on blankets, so I tend to reuse the same ones every year unless a pasture mate rips them. In the fall I bought a light weight liner to layer under her medium weight, however within a week of wear she had shredded the liner underneath, but thankfully not the blanket itself. I opted to buy a heavy in this instance, and the combo neck ultimate was almost half price thanks to the clearance sale. My mare normally wears a 78”, however as another reviewer mentioned when the horses put their heads down the combo neck tends to ride up their rump. I bought an 81” in the red and black combo neck and it fits her beautifully, even if she puts her head down. Given her breed her neck is thick and she has a full mane, which makes the blanket a bit snug in that area, but everything else is great. Even with her winter hay belly the blanket has enough drop to wrap around her if the surcingles are tightened. I appreciate the fit as I plan to clip my mare and I know this blanket will keep her nice and warm. The blanket is very breathable, as even with a full winter coat she has not gotten sweaty. One thing I don’t care for is the location of the rings for the tail cord, as it sits right at the top of my mare’s tail, but her tail is set low on her rump. I would also suggest changing the tail cord material, it’s currently similar to shoe laces, to a material that is more easily cleaned, and adding pull tabs to the Velcro pieces on the neck. Only time will tell if the blanket will give her any rubs, but I suspect it will hold up for some time.

Strange fit
Have to return this. The fit is really strange. Too big as far as length but the chest is super tight even at its widest setting. Not sure how they can design a blanket to be too big and too small at the same time. This blanket was for a thoroughbred...so not a super wide horse to begin with. Also don’t like that return labels aren’t automatically included in the original package anymore.

Love this blanket and the warranty!
I bought this blanket in heavy and medium over a year ago and I have very happy with it. It has been through two winters, I use the medium more during the Ohio winters. It has been a little beat up (a little hole in the lining and a broken strap on the neck part, but nothing compared to blankets I have owned in the past that my horse has ripped to shreds. My heavy weight is still in perfect condition. I swear by these blankets, I just purchased the one with no neck for my retired horse and another one with a high neck for my horse who already has two. They layer great. My horse is an 84" in most weatherbetta products, I do get him an 87" in this blanket because I layer them over a fleece blanket most of the time. Fits great.
