The Sweet-Itch Combo by Shires offers complete protection against biting insects, sweet itch, and sun bleaching. Made from a breathable, lightweight 600 denier ripstop mesh fabric, it will hold up in the field while still being soft on the horse. Ideal for around summer protection, this features a grazing-friendly hood and super large tail flap to help keep the body, neck, and poll covered at all times. The hardwearing fabric blocks at least 90% UV radiation, protecting against sunburn and sun bleaching.

Great fly sheet
Although this sheet seems very heavy my mare has not gotten sweaty with it on in 90 degree humid weather. It provides excellent coverage and protection from bugs (especially midges). This sheet performs as it is intended and is holding up well. Also washed nicely.

Sad but I don't like it
While I love the concept and quality of this sheet it needs some revamping. If I had a mare it would be a great sheet. I put this on my gelding yesterday, and this morning I went out and the bellyband sits so wide and won't go any tighter that he peed all over it, so of course it soaked up into the sides if the sheet. It didn't have leg straps so I took some off of my other blankets to use. Unfortunately I I won't be using this sheet

Absolutely Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this and I saw results the second I put it on my horse!! I own a rat tail Appaloosa gelding who is a fly magnet. I literally tried everything and then I got this fly sheet set. The second I put it on my horse he looked at me like mom why did you wait this long to get this for me ? The relief on his face was priceless.

Best sheet ever for horses who sunburn!!
I bought this sheet for my paint mare who sunburns every summer. Poor girl is always pink and miserable. I was a little nervous because I didn’t know if it would be able to keep her cool enough for the dry 95 degree weather we have been having in Colorado this summer and provide enough protection to keep her healthy. I am so excited that this sheet has done everything it claims and more.
Not only does she stay cool, she remains burn-free (if I make sure to keep it on her during daylight). I absolutely love the ear holes for the neck piece because it keeps everything in place. I was really leery of other sheets out there because I wasn’t sure how the neck attachment would stay in place but this one rocks.
I originally bought a 78 but it was a tad too big so I exchanged it for a 75 and it is perfect. I’m not one to write reviews and sound like I’m on an infomercial, but this thing is so awesome.
I wish it came in different colors and patterns because my horse is too sassy to be plain, but I’m perfectly happy with what I have!!!
Someone else left a review before that said they wish it wasn’t white because the white gets dirty too easily. And to them I say... You bought this product for a real live horse...not a $.01 pony at the grocery store...it’s gonna get dirty no matter what color it is! Just buy the dang sheet and figure out the cleaning part later!

WAY TOO HEAVY
This is supposed to be a fly sheet. It's hot, heavy & cumbersome. My horse sweats and gets very upset in it. I can't return it because she has used it and she has gotten it dirty from sweating and rolling in it. I wanted a fly sheet that connected to her halter so the neck wouldn't slide down. This was one of 2 options. Don't buy it.

Perfect
I bought this sheet in a size 72 which fits perfect for my MFT that rubs himself raw from mosquitos and gnats. I was worried the first night I turned him out in it but was greatly surprised come morning that he wasn’t too hot and the blanket stayed put. The best part of this sheet is the stretchy ear holes, it ensures the neck stays place while happily grazing, no need to turnout with a breakaway halter. I would buy another one but the material is soft but I think it will hold up well.

Finally a solution to "sweet itch"
My mare has struggled with insect bite hyper-sensitivity which has caused her to rub off half of her tail over recent years. I have tried every fly spray, spot on and a variety of fly sheets to no avail. The Shires Sweet Itch Combo Fly Sheet fits my 17 HH thoroughbred beautifully. I am happy the neck is long enough to allow her to graze, gallop, roll, and play comfortably--even in the heat of summer. She loves it! HIgh quality materials. I am ordering another one of these sheets. I do not find that it runs large. It is perfect for my situation in "buggy"Northern Minnesota.

I have a black mare that hates the bugs, yesterday when we brought the horses in cause it was really hot this horse was not sweaty like the other horses in the other flysheets. Fits great and my mare knows this blanket works. easy to put on!

Perfect Solution for my Sensitive Horse
I bought this fly sheet last year for my horse who is very sensitive to fly bites and it made a huge difference for him. This sheet protects him everywhere! I especially like the wide belly band with 3 surcingles, excellent tail flap coverage, and the stretch fabric around the ear holes. The material of this sheet is not a fine mesh, which I was expecting, but a solid ripstop fabric. I was concerned my horse would be too hot in this initially, but decide to give it a try anyway and we had no issues. He also plays pretty rough outside and the sheet is holding up beautifully.
This sheet fits my horse perfectly, with enough length to the neck for him to reach down and graze comfortably. I ordered this sheet in the same size I order his blankets and the fit is perfect. He does wear Rhino blankets so other shoppers might need to size down for the right fit.
I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this fly sheet to others, especially those looking for durable coverage for their sensitive horses!

Way too big!
I ordered this sheet because my little mare is allergic to the bite of "no seeums" here in So. Mississippi and this looked to be the solution so she could enjoy some time outside without suffering with the allergic reaction she has from those evil bugs. Unfortunately because she is barely 14.2, even the smallest size sheet was way too big for her and I had to return the sheet. Thank you SmartPak for making returns so easy, it's one of the reasons I look to you first when I need anything for my horses. I'm sorry I could not get the sheet folded back the way it came out of the box though! Thanks again SmartPak!!

Great idea, weird sizing.
I just purchased this fly sheet. I think it is a great idea but the sizing on the neck part is way too big. The body sizing fits perfectly. But the neck part is so long, I was lucky that I was out in the barn when the ear holes slipped over past down to my mares nose and she was blindfolded in the pasture. I am so glad I was out there when this happened. It could have been a huge accident or I could have had a dead horse. No I took of this fly sheet and I definitely will not recommend it ever. Dangerous.

Durable and it works!
I bought one of these at the beginning of fly season for my hyper-allergic horse. I bought another one about a month later after I figured out this was by far the BEST fly sheet available and I wanted a back-up for when sheet #1 died. Well, I still haven't opened the second one. Not needed yet. This fly sheet keeps insects at bay and prevents my horse from scratching himself raw when he has allergic reactions, and it lasts. I had him allergy tested and discovered he's allergic to TONS of things....grasses, trees, flies, etc....so he itches continually. This is the only sheet I've had(and I've tried a ton of them!) that stays on(24/7), stays in one piece, and keeps my gelding from gouging his skin, with subsequent infections, etc.

Very strong, fits perfect.
I have a black Tennessee Walker gelding. Have pasture boarding him for 2 years already. First year he had no problems at all, but this summer it was just a night mare: maybe mosquitos or some other flies was biting on his chest and belly sooo badly! You need to see his wounded bleeding chest and belly to believe. I was coming to that place to put creams and spray him all over every second day for about 2 months. Spend about 5 gallon bucket of creams on him, but nothing works. He was rubbing his chest and belly badly. I was not looking for any sheets because he will open any closure on any blanket in 30 seconds and take it off. But I was so desperate and didn't know what to do. Decided to try sheets. Was reading bunch of reviews, looking and bunch of blankets and sheets and decided to get this one (Shires combo fly sheet). It was a right choice. I'm so glad I got this one :) At first I was king of skeptical about that neck cover and even wanted to cut it off, but first decided to try it on if it gonna work for my horse. Blanket sits just perfect! There a no leg straps, so I thought it will be a problem and blanket will slide, but it's NOT, stays on place all the time (reminding my horse is on the pasture with 3 other horses, rolling in the dirt, running around and rubbing on the fence). Material is super white and it helps my black horse stay cool under the California sun, closures are very strong end secure, material is very strong also. Tail is covered great too. About the neck cover: just love it! Someone said here that it is very long like made for giraffe. Yes, it looks long when horses neck is up, but when it is grazing the neck cover is just perfect length to not pull back and still roomy and comfortable. Using it already for almost 2 month. Big surprise that my horse even not tried to open any closure. Very big surprise. Thinking that he like it that much. Great choice! Worth every dollar I paid for this sheet.

Great Quality!
I bought this at the beginning of summer because it seemed to have the most UV protection out of all of the sheets I looked at. He hasn't bleached out at all and looks absolutely fantastic! The only think is that I feel as though the belly band is a bit far back as my gelding pees into the belly band portion of his sheet instead.

Huge neck cover!
I have a horse with sweet itch. I bought this fly sheet hoping it would help him. However the neck cover was twice the size of the horse's neck. I am aware it has to be a bit longer so when he stretches the head down to graze, it would not be too tight. However, the neck cover would fit a giraffe! Unfortunately, I could not keep it and had to return it.

Love this Fly Sheet!
I have tried many, many brands of fly sheets and I have to say that this one is my favorite. Love the coverage provided by the belly guard, and the ear holes ensure it stays on well. Has made my mare SO MUCH more comfortable. GREAT sheet!

Although the body fits my QH gelding the neck is WAY too long and it doesn't breathe nearly as well as the Weatherbeaters. It does seem to be fairly durable though

Best for IBH horse
I was happy with my rambo fly buster, but it did not cover the neck completely and his face with a flymask. The Shires sheet does the job. My horse has insect bite sensitivity (IBH). We have had deluge a week ago with black flies and mosquitos, this sheet protected him and he grazed quietly. He is typical Morgan built w/well defined withers. The sheet stays put on his back, even after rolling. I can't honestly rate the durability since we have only used it for 2 weeks, but it appears well constructed.

Great protection from flies
I actually REALLY like this product. I got it because I turn my horse out without a halter and I thought the ear holders made a lot of sense. They make him look a little dorky but they work well without causing discomfort. This fly sheet offers complete coverage, it's lightweight, and stays put.
